Acura CL owners have reported 8 problems related to steering (under the steering category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Acura CL based on all problems reported for the CL.
There is a major issue with the relay under the steering wheel blocking the fuel from the pump going to the engine. This also affects the security system as well as the rack and pinion. The vehicle security turns itself on and off as it pleases, often leaving driver/passengers stranded and sometimes with the alarm not shutting off. This is after having keys re-programmed and most parts replaced for a hefty price tag. Due to this, the vehicle will only start at times. I've seen several similar complaints and taken it to many costly mechanics. I paid $7,000 for this vehicle a couple of years ago but only got to drive it a few times because there is always an issue that can't be fixed.

Subframe rusted through on the passenger side where the cause is a manufacturer defect of condensation from the air conditioning dripping directly above onto the subframe on the passenger side, which created a perforation of the passenger side subframe. Subframe holds the suspension and steering components together and if the passenger side frame from the manufacter defect were to break traveling at highway speed, the car would loose control and cause accidents. The vehicle was inspected at an independent facility and is ready to be inspected again upon request.
Tl-the contact owns a 1999 Acura Cl. The contact stated that while approaching a traffic light and proceeding to make a right turn, the brake pedal was depressed and the vehicle accelerated independently. In addition, when the steering wheel was turned to make a right, the vehicle turned to the left direction. As a result, the vehicle landed in a man hole which caused the air bags to deploy. A police report was filed. The contact sustained shoulder injuries that required medical attention. The vehicle was towed to a impound lot but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The VIN was not provided. The approximate failure mileage was 110,000. Ak.

Driving into work on Thursday the 16th of April, 2015 I was rounding a designated u-turn at approximately 3-5mph. As I was midway through the turn, my car dropped on the passenger side and a scrapping noise started to sound. My car stopped abruptly and a grinding noise made me weary to move. Becoming stationary, I was sideways in the middle of the road with cars approaching. I proceeded to slowly inch my car out of the road and into a safe location with the grinding noise. When I lifted my car up using the jack in the trunk I could visibly see my lower ball joint had come out of the socket and the suspension on the passenger side was collapsed. If this occurred approximately half a mile before the location of the incident I would have been doing 70mph on highway 75. I am lucky that this component failure did not result in the wheel buckling under the pressure of the break. Also I am lucky there were no more than a few cars approaching me when this occurred (t-bone situation). I have been on the NHTSA website to confirm NHTSA campaign number: 99v069000 has been repaired and is for this exact same consequence, which it seems to be. I understand that this may be categorized as a wear component but the ball joint on any car should never come out of place or fail at all. I have recently had to have another item that was already recalled and repaired done again due to the recall not holding up. The issue campaign number: 02v120000 was with the ignition switch contacts spreading resulting in a stall condition and in come cases a no-start condition post stall. The issue was addressed and just re-completed in the beginning of the month so it seems to me that the fixes that are being implemented by Acura seem to bandage the problem instead of a robust fix that will not present the issue in the future. I have already contacted Acura whom stated they will not do anything for me.

I was driving to work approximately a half mile from my house . . My car just turned off, although the ignition key was still in . . It was med-heavy traffic. I don't believe I even had lights but I can't say for sure at first I thought maybe I had gotten bad gas . . Then it happened again as I was turning a corner. Staring became difficult and both times I had to put my car into neutral to restart it . . From there it happened mayb 1 every week to once every 3 weeks mayb . I checked my plugs wires had my fuel filter replaced stopped going where I was gettn gas . . One day I was on the computer at work (oreillys autoparts ) and noticed my car had been involved in a recall at some point , but what they described was exactly what my car was doing . Randomly turning off . . I was told by Acura becauz my car was "fixed" during the first recall I needed to replace my ignition switch at my own cost . . I've owned my vehicle since 2006 . It is a safety issue . I'm afraid to drive my car to the Acura dealer . It's about 90 minutes away . Obviously over time the ignition switch wears out becauz I've only put 60,000 miles on it and I bout it with 65000. Is my safety not a concern with Acura . That how they have dealt with me.
The contact owns a 2003 Acura Cl. While driving 45 mph and attempting to brake, the contact felt a vibration in the steering wheel and brake pedal. The vehicle was taken to four dealers. One dealer diagnosed that the brakes needed to be replaced; however, the contact stated that nothing failed and she did not know what the cause of the failure. Another dealer diagnosed that the rear rotors could be warped and needed to be replaced. The other two dealers also diagnosed that there was an issue with the brakes. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue and stated that they could not assist. The approximate failure mileage was 10,000.
