1 Tire Sidewall problem of the 2003 Acura CL

Failure Date: 02/05/2007

I bought this Acura Cl type s 6-speed Saturday, Jan. 6, 2007. Dealer had put new tires on vehicle as part of an Acura certified used car program. On Monday Feb. 5, 2007, I was traveling on business leaving from work with bad weather pending. Co-worker was to drive my car to my home for me, to keep in garage. My CO-worker called less than a mile from work informing me of sidewall blow out on my driver's side rear tire, he had only traveled a short distance when car felt odd. He did not hit anything. My CO-worker and my wife got the car to lindsay Acura for service that night. The next day service consultant matt called to inform me of tire and rim damage he believes resulted from a pothole impact. (customer damage) not covered by warranty. This cost me $350. 63. I have seen that there is other similar complaints (falken tire).

2 Tire Sidewall problem of the 1997 Acura CL

Failure Date: 08/08/2006

A sidewall bubble of approximately 1. 5 inches has formed on each of two right side tires, nitto nt 555 zrs. One tire is just over 1. 5 years old with under 10,000 miles on it. The other is older with more wear. The tires are working fine currently, but I am concerned that this might be hazardous. Searching the nitto site, I was unable to find an manufacturer's warranty, so appear to have no recourse to get the tire replaced. (both tires were on the car when I purchased it used so there is no receipt). Thank you, john greensage.

3 Tire Sidewall problem of the 1999 Acura CL

Failure Date: 12/21/2005

No event lead to tire failure. Goodyear allegra 185/65r15 with 23k miles on them. Found crack on tire on 12/21/05. Purchase at sam's Club on 03/09/03, sam's replaced tire. On 12/30/05 found flat on different tire, no visible damage. Inflated tire and checked with soap. Leaking on sidewall in two places near raised lettering. Contacted goodyear via e-mail to complain. Tires appear to be defective and a hazard.

4 Tire Sidewall problem of the 1999 Acura CL

Failure Date: 04/15/2002

Second tire to develop sidewall bubble under normal driving conditions in under 6000 miles. Michelin contacted and responded that "this is normal road hazard. " failed tires are new "low profile" tires. Previous vehicles used over the same roads with higher profile tires did not develop sidewall bubbles when subjected to the same driving pattern. Are these tires safe?.

5 Tire Sidewall problem of the 2003 Acura CL

While driving, vehicle suffered a sidewall cut and sudden deflation of the right front tire. The consumer stated this was the third time the vehicle suffered sidewall damage, which required the replacement of the tires and wheels. The consumer believed the combination of the low profile tires and the design of the 17 inch wheels on a low speed roll of the wheel into a pothole can cause the tire to be pinched and cut or damaged by the rim of the wheel. The tire dealer and the Acura dealer stated the tire failures were due to road hazards, however the consumer disagreed since the failure happened three times.

6 Tire Sidewall problem of the 1998 Acura CL

The right front tire developed a bubble in the sidewall on three different tires (the original and the two original equipment replacements). The first occurred at 3,956 miles, the second at 4,104 miles and the most recent at 12,136 miles. Acura did not want to take responsibility after the first instance and referred me to michelin tire who in turn referred me to a tire dealer (etd discount tires). The tire dealer said that the fault was not with the manufacture, but with me. After the second tire failure, the tire dealer advised me to purchase a road hazard warranty. Good thing rthat I did as it offset some of the cost of the third tire replacement tire. While two instances may be a coincidence, three tire similar tire failure on the same wheel are not. The problem is with the manufacture or design of that particluar tire or the car, or both. I have contacted both, michelin has sent me a $71 check, which only partially offst the costs involved. In all three instances, the bubble on the tire sidewall was pointed out to me by three different people. Of major concern, there could have been a serious road accident if I was not made aware of the problem and did not relace the tires. (dot number: rhw#752923 tiresize: 205/55r16).
