Hello, I recently bought this used car. Its a 2017 Acura Ilx with fairly low miles ( 85k ). After the 2nd night of having it, the alarm started going off in the middle of the night and all the lights were flickering in the dashboard. The car wouldn't start so I had to jump it in the morning. It did jump and I drove it to the local store for a battery test. The battery was fine. I thought the issue was resolved until it happened again and again. I began to notice a pattern that it was happening when the car wasn't driven for a few days at a time. This means something in the car was constantly drawing power, even when off. After doing some investigation, it seems there is a parasitic draw happening. The following youtube video shows similar issues on Honda / Acura models: [xxx] , Honda issued a service bulletin only for the 2017-2019 ridegline: [xxx] , but this same keyless entry / tpms module was used in Acura as well. I asked Honda to take a look at this manufacturing defect, causing corrosion on the module because it wasnt properly coated at the factory. They said I would need to contact the NHTSA. I checked my module and sure enough, it has the same defect that the acrua mdx has in the video above. One of the chips was not properly coated, allowing corrosion to build up and cause intermittent grounding. Honda knows about this and should have issued a recall for this module . See pictures attached with proof that the coating was not properly applied to one of the chips. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
