1 Service Brakes problem of the 2016 Acura ILX

Failure Date: 03/24/2026

I am filing this complaint regarding the inadequacy of american Honda's recall remedy under NHTSA campaign 25v-859 (Acura campaign rn5) for my 2016 Acura Ilx (109,000 miles). This recall addresses a defective brake master cylinder that can reduce braking performance and increase stopping distances, posing an unreasonable risk of crash or injury. Despite this acknowledged safety defect, american Honda is refusing to perform the recall repair, stating that parts are limited and repairs are being prioritized only for vehicles already exhibiting symptoms of failure. My case (#16165247) has been closed with no remedy provided. I have contacted american Honda approximately five times over the past two months and receive the same answer. No repair, no loaner vehicle, no interim safety guidance, and no timeline for parts availability has been offered. Their guidance was "we can prioritize your repair once you notice your brakes begin to fail. " my local Acura dealer was uncooperative, stating they have no parts and telling me to get american Honda to provide parts, placing the burden of obtaining them on me as the consumer. The defect symptoms (degraded braking and increased stopping distances) mean the vehicle is already unsafe by the time failure is detectable. Requiring owners to continue operating vehicles with a known braking defect until failure occurs exposes my family, including young children, to the exact crash risk this recall was issued to prevent. It's negligent and endangers the consumer due to failure of the manufacturer. I am requesting that NHTSA open a recall query into Honda's handling of 25v-859 and exercise its authority under the safety act to compel american Honda to either expedite the recall repair on my vehicle or provide a manufacturer-funded replacement vehicle or rental until the remedy is completed. The recall remedy is not being provided within a reasonable time, and no adequate interim safety measures have been offered.

6 Service Brakes problem of the 2017 Acura ILX

Failure Date: 01/12/2026

I received notice of this brake master cylinder recall on 12/20/25 and tried to schedule it at my local dealership (1/5/26) edmonds, wa. They told me they could not perform the recall because they did not have the parts. I was in the dealership on 1/10/26 and they told me they would check into it. Today I received a vm saying they would not perform the recall because the brake booster has not yet failed. This seems like a safety issue - am I supposed to have an accident in order to get this resolved?.

7 Service Brakes problem of the 2016 Acura ILX

Failure Date: 12/20/2025

I am reporting a safety concern involving my vehicle, a 2016 Acura Ilx (VIN: [xxx]), which is currently subject to an active brake system safety recall involving the brake master cylinder (Acura recall code rn5). The recall describes a defect in which contamination of the brake fluid system may cause the master cylinder seal to swell and reduce braking pressure, allowing the brake pedal to travel toward the floor and increasing stopping distance. The failure condition described in the recall is currently occurring in my vehicle. When braking, the brake pedal travels significantly toward the floor before the vehicle stops, which raises serious safety concerns regarding the ability to stop the vehicle in normal traffic conditions. I began contacting Acura dealerships in December 2025 after receiving the recall notice. I was informed that the required recall repair parts were not yet available and that I would be contacted when parts became available. Multiple dealerships in massachusetts and connecticut provided the same information. As of March 2026, I have not been contacted by any dealership regarding repair availability, and the vehicle continues to exhibit the braking condition described in the recall notice. Because the defect affects the braking system, I do not feel the vehicle can be safely operated while awaiting the recall repair. The vehicle remains financed and insured and is relied upon for daily transportation. This complaint is being submitted to document that the recall defect appears to be actively occurring in the vehicle and that the recall remedy has not yet been made available after several months. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

9 Service Brakes problem of the 2020 Acura ILX

Failure Date: 11/11/2025

I am experiencing an issue with my brakes. When I am at a red light and I brake, I find my brakes start to descend. So it's brake, then the brake moves a bit down towards the floor. Then it moves down a bit more. I am still able to brake but I find that the brake pedal moves down a few times while I am sitting at a red light. I am greatly concerned.

10 Service Brakes problem of the 2019 Acura ILX

Failure Date: 06/27/2025

Brakes sometimes do not work. Brake pedal is pressed down to the floor with no resistance sometimes. The brakes need to be pumped multiple times in order to stop. This is a huge safety concern and more more serious than any other recall that we’ve had on our vehicles.

11 Service Brakes problem of the 2019 Acura ILX

Failure Date: 04/08/2025

Reporting intermittent brake failure, where brake sank to the floor on the first press without any effect of slowing the vehicle. Fortunately, in each instance, on the second press the brakes functioned normally and slowed the vehicle, so no accident or injury occurred. The first incident was in may 2022 after driving over a speed bump -- at the time I assumed user error and did not report the incident. The brakes failed a second time in March 2025 when descending a hill at 35 mph, and a third time in April 2025 after u-turning on a hill at low speeds. At that time, I opted to tow the car to the dealer for a repair. The dealer found no brake issues on inspection/testing, but after finding another case report recommended replacing the master cylinder. Of note, this is similar to NHTSA recall 23v-458 for other Acura/Honda models from 2019/2020 where there were issues with the master cylinder, but the Acura Ilx was not included. There was also a NHTSA Acura service bulletin 22-014 from 2022 advising of a search for Acura 2019 Ilx vehicles with an intermittent brake issue. I have also attached my correspondence with Acura.

12 Service Brakes problem of the 2015 Acura ILX

Failure Date: 08/19/2024

The contact owns a 2015 Acura Ilx. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the brake pedal was depressed, with the abs warning light illuminated. The vehicle was restarted; however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the electronic braking control module had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 50,000.

13 Service Brakes problem of the 2019 Acura ILX

Failure Date: 06/07/2024

My brake pedal randomly sinks to the floor. I have been close to rear ending the vehicle in front of me due to this issue. My car has been to the Acura dealership on three different occasions complaining of this issue but nothing was ever found. The tech was unable to replicate the issue.

14 Service Brakes problem of the 2019 Acura ILX

Failure Date: 05/19/2023

What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? - on multiple occasions (at least 6) I was unable to slow down my car using the break, when breaking the pedal would go down but the car would not slow down. I had to re-engage the breaks to slow the car down. This has happened multiple time in different driving environments including when coming off a stop sign stop, leaving a parallel parking spot, exiting a highway exit at 45 miles an hr. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? - being unable to stop the car could lead to me hitting other cars, being unable to stop, hitting a pedestrian, or worse. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? - no I took it to sterling mcall Acura in houston texas and was told it was fine but the issue persisted. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? it was looked at by sterling mcall Acura with no issue found. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? no warnings shown.

15 Service Brakes problem of the 2016 Acura ILX

Failure Date: 04/30/2023

Drive shaft recall, and truck is jammed due to son sitting on it with his 3 friends smoking pot. The trunk has been jammed since 2017. I have reported it to carmax in garland.

16 Service Brakes problem of the 2019 Acura ILX

Failure Date: 08/07/2022

My passenger and I were stopped in a gas line, and had just moved my car from park to drive. I tapped on my gas pedal to inch the car forward as the car in front of me was now about 3 car lengths ahead of me. As I lifted my foot off the pedal and the car began to roll, it picked up speed and started to accelerate, despite my foot being off the gas pedal. Upon attempting to brake multiple times, the brakes would not engage.   the car was launched forward approximately one (1) car length. The car started to tick and the auto brakes kicked in. Only then did my brakes reengage. During this time, none of the warning lights came on aside from my empty fuel light; however it came on since I only had 30 miles of range left. Had the car not detected another car in front of me, I fear worse could have happened. I took my car to the Acura service center. Upon inspection of the car, Acura’s service center did not find any issues with the computer system or the car. They also could not replicate the issue, and they sent me home with the car. This is not the first time that this has happened.   approximately a year prior this incident, I was rolling to a stop when the brakes would not engage. After a few attempts, the brakes did reengage. Auto brakes did not kick in.   during this incident, I did not take the car to the shop, assuming that this was human error. However, after the car launched about 10 feet forward on its own, I fear that this will happen again.   since the car does not detect people, I worry that this will occur again and could potentially cause a more fatal outcome.   not only do I fear for my safety, but I fear for the safety of pedestrians and other drivers around me, as the unpredictability in this problem leaves me feeling uncomfortable to drive the car.  .

17 Service Brakes problem of the 2019 Acura ILX

Failure Date: 08/14/2021

The contact owns a 2019 Acura Ilx. The contact stated while driving 20 mph and depressing the brake pedal, the brake pedal went to the floorboard, but the vehicle failed to respond. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact stated that brake pedal was pumped until the vehicle responded. The vehicle was taken to the dealer on two different occasions; however, the failure could not be duplicated. The contact stated that the failure recurred several times. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, and the failure recurred while the dealer was test-driving the vehicle; however, the cause of the failure could not be determined. The contact stated that the dealer added brake fluid; however, the failure recurred 30 minutes later while driving. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 19,000.

18 Service Brakes problem of the 2013 Acura ILX

19 Service Brakes problem of the 2019 Acura ILX

Failure Date: 10/02/2020

What happens is the brake pedal sinks while the vehicle is in motion. It happens while going forward and in reverse. Slow speeds or highway speeds. When this happens I have no control of the vehicle and cannot stop. I have addressed the issue on multiple occasions to paragon Acura in queens NY and they have done nothing to remedy the issue. They provided a statement to me in August saying that the power braking system is affected by the air conditioning being on as that disrupts the engine vaccum. So I asked so then there's a recall correct and was given a shoulder shrug. To this day, the pedal goes out and is placing me and others in danger.

20 Service Brakes problem of the 2016 Acura ILX

Failure Date: 03/18/2019

Same as the other incidents submitted below - my car accelerates when I apply the brakes. I have to take my foot off of the brakes and reapply before the car reacts and stops. This fault occurs when I'm slowing down and almost at a stop, so this has happened when I have been in close proximity of other cars in front of me, people in crosswalks, approaching my neighborhood gate, slowing down to make a turn, slowing down when approaching stop signs - I had no choice but to run the stop sign. This has happened 8-9 times. First time it happened, I thought it might have been my mistake. After the 3rd or 4th time, I was sure it was not. I brought my car back to the Acura dealership that purchased the car from. I have taken the car there 3 times and all 3 times, after running inspections, I'm told they are unable to verify customer's concerns because they cannot duplicate the concern. They gave me my car back to drive. I feel extremely unsafe in my Acura.

21 Service Brakes problem of the 2014 Acura ILX

Failure Date: 03/17/2019

My driver's side breaks are grinding and giving out on me. I only drive my vehicle on weekends, so I don't see why the driver's side breaks are already giving out on me. I've had the vehicle for only three years and it has 79,784 miles.

22 Service Brakes problem of the 2016 Acura ILX

Failure Date: 02/20/2019

The vehicle accelerated by itself as I parked in a parking space. I steped on the brake but the vehicle just surged forward. Never happened before, but just that day morning as I parked in front of my working place, some malfunctions either in computer or overall vehicle system occurred that day.

23 Service Brakes problem of the 2013 Acura ILX

Failure Date: 01/31/2019

There were two different times my Acura 2013 Ilx was involved in two different accidents and the airbags didn’t deploy. 1. Back on 4/2018 brakes didn’t respond properly, then ceased to another vehicle and airbags didn’t deployed. No major injuries, but high bills. 2. January 2019, my husband was rear ended by an Audi, was sent to the opposite side of the street, car was total loss, airbags never deployed. He suffered major injuries, couldn’t walk for two months, used a walker after that for over two years, suffered dislocated discs, neck and his whole body is not the same anymore. Can’t tell anymore how many procedures he has been through.

24 Service Brakes problem of the 2017 Acura ILX

Failure Date: 09/24/2018

When coming to a stop at a red light, the car continued to roll forward. At this time, I stepped on the brake with added pressure but the car continued to roll. Then I shifted the car into park but that did not stop the vehicle and it rolled into a truck in front at less than 5 mph. The dealership states they cannot duplicate the incident and found no errors while conducting their inspections.

25 Service Brakes problem of the 2016 Acura ILX

Failure Date: 12/26/2017

The car displayed multiple errors on its multi-information display. The errors include brake system problem, abs problem, road departure mitigation system problem, and adaptive cruise control problem. Those error messages went away on my way to elk grove Acura but I was able to record them on my phone. There was still an error message in the Acuralink system for the electric power steering that I showed the service advisor. He deleted the message without telling me and said those errors are caused by a low battery. He went to test the battery and it tested fine so I was told that there was nothing to fix. He sent me home after refuse my request to document the errors with Acura. He made it like I never brought the car in and those problems never existed.

26 Service Brakes problem of the 2016 Acura ILX

Failure Date: 10/17/2017

1st incident - on oct 17th 2017, on my way back from gym and this is a street drive. I was approaching a stop sign which is on a sort of a hill. I pressed the brakes and the car accelerated insteat and I could not stop at the stop sign. I did press it again harder and the car stopped but I had already crossed the stop sign by then. I was confused and scared but assumed that it was my fault and continued home driving carefully. 2nd incident - on the same day on my way to work, the exact same thing happened and again I pressed very hard on the brakes the second time and that helped. By this time I was sure something is wrong with the car. 3rd incident - same day on my way back from work, this time I was being very careful and riving very slow in the right most lane, the exact same thing happened. I did not drive the car after that and the car is with the cerritos Acura service center. Not sure if I can drive that car anymore.

27 Service Brakes problem of the 2016 Acura ILX

Failure Date: 01/11/2017

When applying the rear brakes they constantly squeal very loudly. The dealership keeps looking into this and says Acura doesn't have a solution for the problem because they have not received enough complaints about it yet. So I am supposed to drive a vehicle with squealy brakes?.

28 Service Brakes problem of the 2016 Acura ILX

Failure Date: 04/15/2016

The contact owns a 2016 Acura Ilx. While the contact's daughter was driving 2 mph the vehicle jerked forward independently while approaching a stop. Additionally, the vehicle failed to slow down even after the driver removed her foot from the accelerator pedal and depressed the brake pedal. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue and stated that the contact should bring the vehicle back to the dealer. The approximate failure mileage was 6,000. Updated 07/21/lj updated 11/27/2017.
