general problems of the 2011 Acura MDX

The hazard warning switch on my 2011 Acura Mdx technology & entertainment package VIN [xxx] sticks. It is due to a manufacturing defect and not because of normal wear and tear. That is a safety concern because when it is pressed and sticks, such as when giving the right of way to an emergency vehicle, or in bad weather, it not possible to make it unstuck while driving, and requires a screwdriver to pry it back to unstuck position, and if that option is not available then the stuck hazard switch will drain the battery when the vehicle is shut down. Please refer to enclosed Acura servicenews article b15070c. On 8/9/2025, for my service at hendrick Acura, I requested this known safety issue be fixed. I demonstrated by pressing the hazard switch that got stuck and required a screwdriver to unstick it. But the dealer unreasonably wanted me to pay $99 diagnostic fee to troubleshoot an obvious issue and even when I showed them the Acura servicenews article b15070c. So, I was forced to confirm the issue indirectly myself. On 8/11/2025, I ordered a replacement hazard switch part number 33510-stx-a02 from another Acura dealer contemporary cars, for $37. 02, per enclosed, even though it was a waste of my money. I swapped out the hazard switch and as expected it still got stuck. I have enclosed two pictures of my diy diagnostic. I then searched for replacement dashboard center panel online from the Acura dealers, but I am unable to find any available. I then contacted Acura client relations on 8/25/2025, and they opened a case # [xxx]. Kevin from Acura client relations called and stated that b15070c does not apply to my VIN. But I disagree because b15070c states for 'affected vehicles' - "2010-13 Mdx (all trim levels except base. " hence, I am contacting NHTSA to ask Acura to cover my VIN as a saftey recall, and either provide me a replacement center panel that does not have the same manufacturing defect, or ask hendrick Acura to replace it free of cost. Moonroof / sunroof glass spontaneously exploded as while driving on interstate at approximately 65mph. This caused many small peices of glass to break inward some of which entered into the cabin and onto passengers including the driver. The glass exploding was very loud and caused me to jerk my steering wheel. It scared the passenger as well. Also small slivers of glass can be felt in the skin.

While driving moon roof shattered. Available for inspection. Our lives were put at risk by the sudden onset of loud shattering sound, distraction while driving. Shattered glass could have caused impairment.

Vehicle lost power- all lights came on. After being towed to two separate mechanics, found out engine blew. Had to replace the following: engine radiator motor mounts timing belt thermostat.

Sunroof glass exploded spontaneously while driving on highway about 80mph with little traffic and clear skies. Luckily, the sunroof interior slide cover was closed preventing the glass shards to fall into the vehicle. Took car to a local Acura dealer and they did not mention a recall and needed time to order a new part and schedule service. Declined their service and went to an auto glass service for pending repairs. I believe this was no fault of my own and I wasn't aware of this sunroof issue. If the guard was not closed myself and passengers would most likely get hurt.

The sunroof exploded while driving on the interstate in morning traffic going at least 65 mph.

I was traveling along an interstate and heard a deafening sound. I lost control of my vehicle, left the interstate and was heading down an embankment when I finally regained control of my vehicle. I made it back to the interstate and pulled off at the next exit. I heard the sound as if something that was pertaining to my roof. When I pulled back the inside sunroof cover glass started coming into my car. I looked and my sunroof had a large hole in it and from the look of the glass pushing outward it exploded. There was nothing around me at the time and I was not under an overpass or under any trees which eliminated anything falling on the sunroof. The question still remained why did the glass appear as explode instead of an implode? I went to a body shop and they said they had heard of sunroofs "exploding". After going through several technicians at a local Acura dealership and researching the incident on the internet I confirmed that my sunroof did actually "explode". To my dealerships credit a manager agreed to replace the sunroof for free. How many fatalities have happened due to "exploding" sunroofs? if I would of rolled my car or crashed and died I don't think an investigation would of led to the real source of the incident; one would assume that sunroof shattered on impact or roll over. Consumers need to be aware of this!! I have put it out on social media to try to make the public aware. This is a very dangerous problem. I'm thankful I didn't have my grandson or elderly parent with me when this happened. I give god credit for protecting me through a horrible experience. I have photos on my iphone if proof is needed.

The glass sunroof spontaneously exploded under normal driving conditions while at freeway speed of 65-70 mph. The nearest vehicle in front of us was over 300 yards ahead, nothing hit the sunroof to cause it to explode outward (from the inside out). It is my understanding that there have been numerous incidents of this happening due to atmospheric conditions between the sunroof and the interior screen with temperature changes. If the glass was laminated, this might not happen. It certainly would not be as dangerous as the potential for glass to shower down on occupants, especially the driver while at highway speed.
