While driving at various speeds, the vehicle would surge forward as if it were going from 1st to 3rd gear immediately, and while decelerating to come to a stop. While driving approximately 5 mph in a parking lot, the vehicle suddenly felt as if shifted to 3rd gear. The driver had to immediately press the brakes to stop the vehicle.
