1 Seat Belt problem of the 2019 Acura MDX

Failure Date: 10/21/2024

Middle row passenger seatbelt malfunctioning. Waiting on part on back order. Available for inspection until it gets replaced. Numerous occasions noticed the belt would lock when getting children out of car and didn’t think anything of it. Had to move middle row seat to get it to retract out of the lock position. Today my child got tangled in the seatbelt and he was trying to get out of car and it retracted and locked and kept getting tighter around his chest. I tried slacking the belt back to loosen it and it wouldn’t retract out and only got tighter. I eventually cut the belt as he couldn’t breathe and I was unable to loosen the belt. It has not been inspected yet by anyone as I’m waiting for the part to come in. No messages on car dashboard.

2 Seat Belt problem of the 2020 Acura MDX

Failure Date: 05/30/2024

On may 30, 2024, the vehicle associated with the VIN associated with the report was involved in an accident. The vehicle is inoperable due to the seatbelt no longer working since the accident. The vehicle is at the collision center of my choice, and all repairs except for the seatbelt have been made. The collision center and I have reached out to american Honda motor company, inc. And Acura several times. As of date, there has been no resolution and no estimated date of when a seatbelt will be issued by american Honda motor company, inc. And/or Acura. I was told by an employee at american Honda motor company, inc. That the seatbelt will become inoperable whenever the vehicle is in an accident or collision. I feel american Honda motor company, inc. Has and continues to produce unsafe vehicles and vehicles where repairs cannot be made promptly. Seatbelts are important, and I honestly believe seatbelts save lives. But, for a company to have a shortage of seatbelts with no estimated time of when one will be issued is unacceptable. And for the company to produce vehicles with seatbelts destined to not function after an accident is a problem. As a consumer, I would like this company to be held accountable for producing vehicles with problems and additional problems if the vehicles are in an accident. I've tried resolving this matter by contacting american Honda motor company, inc. , better business bureau, and now NHTSA. I feel this is way beyond what a consumer should have to do.

3 Seat Belt problem of the 2004 Acura MDX

Failure Date: 04/15/2024

Airbag light has been lit for a while now for my 2004 Acura Mdx. I originally took the car to courtesy Acura for them to check what causing it. They told me that the sensor should be replaced and I paid $260+. After replacing sensor, the airbag light still lit. They told me that they need to replace the front seatbelt buckles. One buckle (part 04813-s3v-a62zc) arrived but the other one has been backordered for a while now (almost a year) and there's no eta from american Honda on when the part (part 04816-s3v-a61zc) will be available. This is a safety issue since the airbag will not deploy in case of accident. Hope you guys can help me expedite the process and escalate the issue with american Honda. Thank you soo much!.

4 Seat Belt problem of the 2016 Acura MDX

Failure Date: 12/13/2023

I was involved in an accident 12/13, 2023. No airbags deployed, however, my seatbelt locked up. A new seatbelt was ordered through Acura soon thereafter 12/23. At the time this was ordered, I was told that there was no eta as there is a national backorder. Fast forward to today, my car has been fully repaired and is still sitting in the local repair shop because there are still no seatbelts available. I have filed complaints with Acura corporate, and have a claim number that I would be more than happy to provide. Acura corporate has advised the repair shop that it will be at least six months to one year until a seatbelt is is available I also have documentation on the “ expedited order” that was placed for the seatbelt in 12/2023. The insurance company, usaa, is now looking at totaling my car simply because we cannot find a seatbelt. The local Acura dealers, and our car repair shop cannot believe that cannot seem to get a seatbelt for me, and it’s been four months. On my research online, it appears that Acura may be legally obligated to manufacture, and provide this part. I wanted to report this to the proper regulatory agency to ensure that this has been documented. The car is completely drivable, given the lack of safety restraint. I also am aware that I am not alone in this complaint, as many other Mdx owners are experiencing the same I am not sure how to proceed from here and I’m hoping that you may be able to help thank you so much for your time and consideration.

7 Seat Belt problem of the 2018 Acura MDX

Failure Date: 09/30/2023

On September 30th I got in my car and my drivers seatbelt would not pull out. It was completely stuck. There was no accident or incident, it just fully stopped working and would not pull out to buckle. It was taken apart my a family mechanic and he confirmed a new part of was needed. We then took it to the dealership and they confirmed a new part was needed. This makes my cart illegal to use. A seatbelt is the most basic, fundamental piece of safety equipment needed. My car is not safe to drive. Driving it puts myself at risk everyday day. This could easily result in death. The dealer told us that the part is indefinitely backordered with no eta. They said they had two other orders for a drivers seatbelt that they were waiting on that they haven't gotten, one of them placed in July. This is 3 people at one dealership that cannot get a drivers seatbelt. I escalated this to Honda/Acura. It took over 20 emails and calls and 10+ social media posts for someone to call me back. I was told I would be moved to a critical back order part and skip the line. It would make me 9th in line, meaning there are many more than that waiting on the part given you don't get moved to a critical back order part unless you continue to call, email and blast them. I was told it could take a year for me to get a new seatbelt as they are having production issues (yet they are making new cars with seatbelts without a problem). They are not prioritizing getting this most basic fault feature replaced and based on the amount of people at one dealer waiting for this part and the "hundreds" as she told me also waiting for this part this should be prioritized and it should be recalled. They are also not offering anytype of safe loaner car for those with the issue to drive even though that are to blame for the production issue.

8 Seat Belt problem of the 2005 Acura MDX

The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where she was informed that both front driver and passenger air bags and seat belt pretensioners were defective and needed to be replaced. The dealer nor the manufacturer had been notified of the failure. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was 209,638.

9 Seat Belt problem of the 2017 Acura MDX

Failure Date: 11/08/2022

On Tuesday, November 8, 2022 I had my 20 month year old grandson in a rear facing car seat and he wrapped the middle seat seat belt around is neck and was choking and coughing. I was on my way to pick up my other grandson at school about 4 miles from my home and when I arrived at the school I opened the back door on the driver side where he was sitting and to my surprise and fear he had the seatbelt wrapped around his neck. I tried to remove it seatbelt when he was in the carseat and it was too tight there was no give. I yelled for help and a lady in her car helped me. The only resolution was to cut the middle seat belt. He had to be taken to emergency because he had red marks around his neck.

10 Seat Belt problem of the 2017 Acura MDX

Failure Date: 04/05/2022

Copied below is my email to the piazza Acura dealership. They will not provide a loaner. ________________________ my name is kathryn hersh and I purchased a new 2017 Acura Mdx with awd and the tech package from your dealership on 27 August 2016. In early April of 2022, the front passenger seat belt of my Mdx stopped working. I was asked to come into your dealership to confirm that it was not working, and I did so on 12 April 2022. At that time a new seat belt was ordered, and I was told it would take about a month at most. For your reference, the part number, order reference number, and date of order are included below. · part number: 04814-tz5-a00za · order reference number: u3990412 · date ordered: 12 April 2022 it is now past the one-year anniversary of this safety warranty problem being brought to your dealership’s attention, and the theoretical delivery date keeps getting pushed out. Just today, I called the parts department and was told there is a new shipping date of 04 June 2023. Frankly, I don’t believe it and feel like I’m just being strung along. I ask you mr. Brunath, what would you think if you were in my situation? this Mdx is my only car, and I have had limited use of it to carry passengers for over a year due to the effective loss of the front passenger seat. Because this is a safety issue, my hands are further tied in that I cannot trade or sell my Mdx. It is very strange that this seat belt stopped working, and I have to wonder if it was a design or manufacturing defect. Nevertheless, I have been the only one dealing with the consequences, and I have had to do so for over a year. I am unwilling to continue to do so, and now propose that piazza Acura treat this like any other extended warranty repair situation and provide me with a comparable late-model Mdx loaner free of charge until such time as piazza Acura and the Honda corporation can provide me with and install a new, manufacturer-supplied front passenger seat belt.

11 Seat Belt problem of the 2004 Acura MDX

Failure Date: 04/02/2022

Was driving to the store and the vehicle lost all power it will crank and idle but. When u push the gas pedal it will not accelerate all the dash lights are flashing or staying on as of right now the vehicle is on the side of the road I had to walk 15 miles cause I left my phone at home so I couldn't call no one and. 12 Seat Belt problem of the 2014 Acura MDX

Failure Date: 05/20/2021

Went out with family recently and all of a sudden front passenger side seat belt buckle won't latch. I took it to the dealer (pohanka Acura). They said seat belt buckle has to be replaced and it will cost approx. $1000. I called Acura and they said this is not a warranty issue. Car is only 7 years old and front passenger side is used only occasionally by an adult. I would like Acura to pay for the replacement of my seat belt buckle.

13 Seat Belt problem of the 2011 Acura MDX

Failure Date: 11/02/2020

I have a 2011 Acura Mdx and just recently my airbag srs light has came on when I turned my vehicle on. I was told by the Acura dealership that this was due to a malfunctioning airbag sensor. Due to this malfunction none of my airbags will deploy if I were to get into an accident. Which I think is absolutely insane. When I took it to the dealer they stated it would cost over $1500 to fix it. As a single mother I am not able to afford to have this issue fixed. I called Acura and the lady I spoke too was very rude and said that there was not any recalls regarding this issue and that Acura would not help with the repairs. My car has never been in an accident and I always maintain the oil, tires, maintenance on this car. No one should ever have to worry about getting in the car with their children and feeling unsafe because of malfunction air bag sensor or computer. The Acura dealership should be held responsible for this malfunctioning system.

14 Seat Belt problem of the 2005 Acura MDX

Failure Date: 12/15/2019

Driving at highway speed 60mph right side curtain airbag, right front seat airbag and right side front seat belt pre tensioner deployed. When the air bag deployed a piece of the right side grab bar hit the driver in the face. The front passenger had abrasion on her face from the airbag hitting her. On star called right away and we gave them info and after they were sure we were ok hung up. We took the vehicle to smithtown Acura scanned for codes and found code f4-11. Acura informed me that a rep from Acura would inspect the vehicle. After the rep inspected the vehicle they said that they found no manufacturer defects but they could not say why the airbag deployed. After a few weeks going back and forth with client realions for Acura they said there legal team said they find no manufacturer defects and to call my insurance company. Thanks for taking a look at this.

16 Seat Belt problem of the 2019 Acura MDX

Failure Date: 05/20/2019

This complaint is against all automobiles sold in the us. Just leased a new one, and this seatbelt problem persists. I am soooo tired of it. Women should have safe seatbelts, too. Women (50% of population) should be provided just as safe seatbelts as men (50% of population) but we are not. We are of shorter stature, so current seatbelts come across our body at a higher angle and therefore cut into the side of the neck rather than the middle of our shoulder. The seatbelt adjustment needs to come down on the side post another 2 inches to make it safe enough for women (at all adjustable attach points). 1. Our seat is farther forward, so we can reach the brake peddle. This causes a sharper angle which makes the seatbelt cut into our left side of the neck instead of across the middle of our shoulder. 2. We sit lower because of our shorter height, causing a sharper angle which then makes the seatbelt cut into our neck. With shorter legs, we don't want our feet to dangle and become tired while driving. Our shorter stature makes the seatbelt unsafe (and unfair). 1. The annoying cut into our neck makes us want to place the shoulder harness under out arm = extremely unsafe. 2. The neck pain distracts us from safe driving instead of having full attention on the road. 3. In the event of an accident, the misplacement of the seatbelt against our neck makes injuries to the neck more likely. Recommend you add more women drivers to your automobile safety standards committee. Women with their shorter height should have just as much protection as men.

17 Seat Belt problem of the 2002 Acura MDX

Failure Date: 02/25/2019

The srs light turns on and doesn't go out after startup of the vehicle. There is a recall of the srs unit malfunction for the 2003 year model. Secondly, my vehicle is more than fifteen years old. Is there a takata air bag recall involving my 2002 Acura Mdx? I have taken ownership very recent.

20 Seat Belt problem of the 2003 Acura MDX

Failure Date: 06/01/2017

Unknown, but since I bought the car I encountered a problem with the rear seatbelts, they do not work and I am about to be a grandmother and it is important and is a safety issue,.

21 Seat Belt problem of the 2004 Acura MDX

Failure Date: 11/02/2016

I was traveling on a city street when another driver traveling full speed failed to yield as he was entering the city street at a high speed and harshly impacted my car in the front driver's side and then a second impact to my rear driver side. My seatbelt failed to restrain me to the seat and as a result I was brutally banged around the interior of my vehicle. Even though the physical damage to my car didn't look to be too bad, I sustained 7 herniated / bulging disc in my back and neck in which many are pressing my spine. None of my airbags deployed as well. Not even the side curtain airbag on the impacted driver's side. Had the airbags deployed and my seatbelt restrained me properly, I would not have sustained the serious injuries I did.

22 Seat Belt problem of the 2003 Acura MDX

Failure Date: 07/01/2016

The srs (air bag) may fail to deploy in an accident if the driver¿s seat belt is unbuckled at any point during the drive, even if it is subsequently buckled prior to and during the accident. With the engine running, if I unbuckle the seat belt, the seat belt warning light does not illuminate, however, the srs (air bag) warning light does illuminate. When I start the vehicle the srs and seat belt light are usually both illuminated for the ignition test period of 3-5 seconds. If I don¿t buckle the seat belt, the seat belt warning light will remain illuminated and the srs light will go out after the 3-5 second test period after the ignition is turned on. Once I buckle the seat belt, the seat belt warning light goes out. If I then unbuckle the seat belt while the engine is running (ignition remains on) the seat belt warning light does not come on, but the srs warning light does come on. If I then buckle the seat belt again, the srs warning light stays on until I turn off the ignition. Once I restart the engine and buckle the seat belt, the srs warning light will go out. In addition, I have witnessed numerous occasions when the srs warning light illuminated without any action towards the seat belt buckle. This leads me to believe that there are cases where the switch fails even when the seat belt remains buckled. It is my understanding, that while the srs warning light is illuminated, the srs (air bag) will not deploy during an accident. If this were to happen, even though the seat belt is buckled, the srs would fail to deploy. My research indicates that a failure of the switch in the driver¿s seat belt buckle causes this condition and that replacement of the seat belt buckle assembly is required to remedy this.

24 Seat Belt problem of the 2002 Acura MDX

Failure Date: 06/03/2015

2002 Acura Mdx srs light constantly on which means the air bag may not function normally. 1. Acura refuses to address this seat belt limited warranty issue (which continues for the life of the car and includes repair or replacement) without a minimum diagnostic charge of $130 prior to effecting repair as warranty item (warranty page attached). 2. Have already had code diagnosed as defective driver side seat belt sensor by independent mechanic which Acura refuses to believe or act upon. 3. When it comes to a serious safety issue in a car covered as a warranty item, the company should be required to diagnose the problem and perform repair per their warranty agreement without charge. They are putting lives in danger by insisting on not performing the work until completing their own diagnostic check at the car owners cost. 4, this light is on from car start up to engine turn off.

25 Seat Belt problem of the 2010 Acura MDX

Failure Date: 11/24/2014

Partially closed drivers door on seat belt. Opened door removed seat belt. Then after driving home I was unable to open the drivers door with or without the automatic door locks nor from the inside or outside or with a key. Had to climb out of the car over the center console or out the window. This seems like something that should not happen and a safety concern if needing to exit the car swiftly.

26 Seat Belt problem of the 2003 Acura MDX

Failure Date: 11/10/2014

The contact owns a 2003 Acura Mdx. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 10 mph, the brake pedal was applied and traveled to the floor board as the seat belt pretensioners deployed inadvertently and fractured. Additionally, the air bag warning indicator illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that both drivers side and front passenger side seat belt pretensioners needed to be replaced. The contact did not disclose if the vehicle was repaired or not. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 165,000.

27 Seat Belt problem of the 2005 Acura MDX

Failure Date: 10/07/2014

Srs/seat belt warning light came on at instrument panel then intemittingly over the next week. Took car in to dealer on October 13, 2014. Dealer advised that I needed to repair and not covered under any type of warranty. Called Acura corp for financial assistance, advised I would have to pay entirely for the repair, not covered under warranty. Similiar situation occurred with my transmission, needed to pay 60% for repairs even though it was under warranty. Very surprised there was no recall for transmission with hundreds if not thousands of Mdx owners affected. Hfl/bluetooth function inoperable and disconnected due to parasitic drainage. Need to replace no warranty coverage. Sent 3 certified letters to Acura corporate officers seeking answers, yet to receive a response from anyone. This is what you get from buying a luxury vehixle from Acura.

28 Seat Belt problem of the 2013 Acura MDX

Failure Date: 06/07/2014

My 4 year old was in a booster seat in the back so seat belt was on him. When we went to unbuckle the seatbelt it locked. We attempted several times to unlock it, we tested all the other seatbelts which did lock and unlock. We could not get it unlocked and had to go into a local restaurant and borrow scissors to get him out. We tried for 15 mins at least to get the seat belt unlocked and every time it seemed to get tighter. My 4 year old had nightmares that evening about the seat belts and red marks on his shoulder. It is scary to think we may not have been able to get him out in an emergency.

29 Seat Belt problem of the 2003 Acura MDX

Failure Date: 05/22/2014

My son was driving in town normal speed it was raining, he had to make a quick stop to avoid a car in front of him that made a quick stop also. The bumpers barely touched, left no marks at all, not even to the front licsence plate. The airbag deployed and black and blued his arm. We received a recall notice for this 2003 Mdx. Took it in to libertyville Acura and they fixed one part of the recall but refused to fix the deployed airbag and seatbelts. That's not right! the steering wheel airbag should not have deployed without a crash! what gives. A recall without repairs is nothing but lip service. How many of us are out there? how many others are or ,were denied also? the car is still at the dealer. They have not fixed the problem.

30 Seat Belt problem of the 2003 Acura MDX

Failure Date: 05/10/2014

My daughters Mdx was driven by her son and he had to make a sudden stop under rainy conditions. There was no crash, and the slightest contact with the stopped car in front. There is no damage to either car, the touch was so slight there was not even a scratch nor a bent license plate. To our shock the steering wheel airbag had deployed and safety belts locked up. There is no way that airbag should of deployed. There is a recall for the airbag system. The dealer did part of several parts of the recall, but refused to replace the steering wheel airbag and repair the frozen front seat belts.

31 Seat Belt problem of the 2003 Acura MDX

Failure Date: 11/25/2013

I was driving on the carpool lane of 170n with my two kids (heading to 5n) when there was suddenly a dog, yellow labrador crossing the freeway and getting right on my lane. I tried to slow down and brake but it was too late,I hit the dog right on the front of my car. I felt my seat belt tightened uncomfortably thereafter and I released it so I can reset and put it again, but it won't pull to reach the port on my right side,it seemed stuck. It was right around that time we started smelling smoke thereafter we hit the dog. My kids and I were looking around where the smoke was coming until my daughter who was sitting right on my back (driver's) said "mom there's smoke on the back". . (I was on the bottom of the 170n freeway joining 5n) so I was able to drive on the shoulder and pull over and told the kids to "get out of the car, now!" I didn't see where the smoke really was because my concern was to get ourselves to stop the car safely and get out. We ran away from the car about 30-50 feet away. There was a gentleman who pulled on the shoulder and asked what's going on and lend me his phone (I left everything in the car). He checked on the car and thought "it was okay". . I told myself I can get my phone and purse still so I ran back and get it (there was some smoke inside I can't tell where it was from) . By the time I ran back to my kids and the gentleman it was already smelling smoke from where we are and in maybe a second there was some fire visible from the drivers side,on the door side inside. . And then my daughter told me "mom the smoke was coming from the hole of the seat belt on the wall,it was going to me so I moved on the other side". Seeing the fire I called 911 at 2:57pm to alarm and aware them. I asked the gentleman to take us on a safe place away from the car coz I was afraid the car would consequently explode.

32 Seat Belt problem of the 2011 Acura MDX

Failure Date: 07/30/2012

I was stopped at a stop light when a pick up truck hit my car from behind. I was wearing my seatbelt and my seat was positioned at an appropriate distance from the steering wheel. After my head first hit the headrest from the initial impact, my head flew forward and hit the steering wheel. I had a bump on my forehead and a headache afterward (followed by a black eye the next day). Fortunately, a cat scan confirmed that my injury was not serious. Because I was concerned about whether my seatbelt was working or not, I took my Acura to my local Acura dealer to have the seatbelts checked. They told me that my seatbelts were working as they should. I am still concerned, however, about my seatbelt's reliability in a collision. I can't say whether or not my seatbelt locked at some point during my accident because it happened so quickly and unexpectedly that I, frankly, don't remember. But I do know that it didn't keep me from hitting my steering wheel.

33 Seat Belt problem of the 2010 Acura MDX

Failure Date: 05/24/2012

On 2 different times my vehicle accelerated on its own resulting in an accident. The first time was on or about may 24, 2011. I was pulling into a parking space of an apartment complex. It was around 5:30 pm. I was driving slowly (between 2-3 mph) as there was a construction crew working directly behind the parking space in which I was going to park. I was making a right hand turn into the parking space. As I proceeded into the parking space my left foot was on the floor and my right foot was on the brake, alternating between braking and idling. I was not using the accelerator, just the brake and the idling engine. As I approached the curb to my final stop, the car suddenly lunged forward over the curb and hit a tree. I reported these details to the Acura dealership when I took the car in for repairs. I told the representative that something was wrong with the car and they needed to check the acceleration. About a month later my car was returned to me and the representative at the dealership said they did not find anything wrong with accelerator. About 10 months later (March 2013) a similar acceleration happened. This time I was pulling into a parking space in a parking lot. I entered the parking space by making a right turn. My left foot was on the floor; my right foot was on the break. There was only 1 other car in the parking lot. It was about 10:30 am. I was alternating between braking and idling. Just before the final stop the car lunged forward hitting a brick wall. The dealership recognized me from my previous visit. I told the representative what happened. I told him that something was wrong with the car it is not suppose to accelerate like it did. Once again the car was repaired and I was told there was nothing wrong with the car. I said this car is a safety hazard; I am not going to drive the car. I left the car there.
