2 Automatic Emergency Braking problem of the 2022 Acura RDX

Failure Date: 08/17/2025

Automatic braking system came on when the vehicle sensed another vehicle. As the breaking system turned on, the steering wheel locked and did not allow for the driver to steer in order to not avoid a collision. This happened in the streets. It is currently under investigation with insurance. The vehicle had applied the emergency breaks system a few days before, in the highway, while the driver already had the foot on the break and the steering wheel had locked, preventing the driver to change lanes. No collision on this day.

3 Automatic Emergency Braking problem of the 2025 Acura RDX

Failure Date: 06/26/2025

Picked up the vehicle. On [xxx]. . . On the way home I was going around a curve on a highway with a semi-truck to my right, when the car suddenly braked autonomously, and the power steering stopped working. I struggled to steer into the curve and then allowed the semi to move ahead so I could safely pull to the side of the road. I had several alarms go off that I had to cycle though to turn off. I fully powered down the car, and when I turned it back on I had 2 alarms that stayed on. Lane keep assist warning, and braking system problem. I returned to the dealership the following morning [xxx] and they could not diagnose nor replicate the issue. I'm being asked to roll the dice by picking up the car today 6/30/25, and gamble with mine and my families safety. This problem need to be fixed! information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

4 Automatic Emergency Braking problem of the 2025 Acura RDX

Failure Date: 06/21/2025

While driving approximately 35 mph and exiting the highway, the brakes locked up and the power steering became inoperable. The steering wheel was difficult to turn. The power steering, low brake speed, and lane keep assist warning lights were illuminated. The message “do not drive vehicle – see dealer” was displayed. If a vehicle had been behind me it definitely would have hit me. I got to a parking lot and shut off the car. I turned it on and the messages were still there. I called for roadside assistance for a tow. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer, who was unable to determine the cause of the failure; because there were no warning lights illuminated upon arrival. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and has no concerns. I am afraid to drive this car as it is on the highway every day.

6 Automatic Emergency Braking problem of the 2025 Acura RDX

Failure Date: 05/30/2025

As this car was being driven by my mother, she was going approximately 40 mph around a turn on a road she drives every day and for now reason the car starting saying she had been in a crash, the steering stopped working and the brakes locked and she was no longer in the car. She was able to manuever it into a ditch, which fortunately wasn't very deep to avoid any other cars. We took this to the dealership who indicated they had never seen this type of issue there however when I researched, there had been several reports of this type of incident, 4 in va alone. The car was at the dealership for over two weeks to be repaired as the dealership had to work with technicians at Acura to determine cause/replacement; however they indicated they can not guarantee it won't happen again. My mother lost my father two years ago and this was the first car she purchased on her own and now she is terrified. We asked Acura to help assist changing her out of this car and they simply refused through the manager of the dealership indicating they did nothing wrong and they have replaced the $8k part. Since she bought the vehicle in April 2025 and this happened just 6 weeks later, that does not give us comfort. The dealership was helpful and we were able to get her into a different kind of vehicle although she had to pay $8k more and she is on a fixed income. She has had multiple Acuras however this is a safety issue and likely a potential recall simply from numbers I have seen from research and the potential harm this could cause occupents of the car and anyone else that may be near them on the road. We are very disappointed in Acura. We may have to go back to dealership to get repair info as we didn't accept this car back, they gave my mother a loaner and then we bought a new one. Crown Acura of richmond is where it was repaired.

7 Automatic Emergency Braking problem of the 2020 Acura RDX

Failure Date: 03/03/2025

The car was just purchased turning left going about 5 to 10mph in a 25 mph zone it hit the brakes. Then about 100 yrds later at a stop light, the car was turning left with traffic going onto a 45mph road. It slammed on the brakes, saying "brake", on the display, causing whiplash, and almost a major accident. After calling Acura, they mentioned these driver assistance systems were tied into cruise control. When the car was tested on the highway a couple days before and used cruise control, the collision and another warning system were faulty. It said "sensor is covered or. . . " I do not remember the 2nd part. They specifically said if these systems are problematic with warning lights, you should not use cruise control. These cars should not be on the road. No shortage of people complaining about this online.

11 Automatic Emergency Braking problem of the 2020 Acura RDX

Failure Date: 04/06/2024

In sudden, hard braking situations, the engine is disabled for between 3-4 seconds. On the highway, when hard braking from 70 mph to 20 mph, the engine is disabled and cars from behind are forced to veer off the road to avoid hitting my vehicle as it is basically stalled and cannot resume the speed. At intersections, when hard braking from 35 mph to 15 mph , the engine is disabled and the car is left in the middle of an intersection, blocking side and from-behind traffic.

12 Automatic Emergency Braking problem of the 2019 Acura RDX

Failure Date: 10/12/2023

I purchased this Acura Rdx model in 2019 and exported it to europe, moldova. Last Saturday when I just started moving my car accidentely got stall and repaier service reported the fuel pump crash. I've start researching and learned that fuel pump issue is recognised by Acura and they do a change for this part. As I live in the republic of moldova is there a chance to receive this part? 13 Automatic Emergency Braking problem of the 2022 Acura RDX

Failure Date: 08/15/2022

5 different occasions where the car enabled the emergency braking system for collision when there were no possibility of collision. This has occurred twice on the freeway, where all of a sudden, the vehicle slams down on the break, coming to a screeching halt. No vehicle or other object in front, side or back of vehicle that should cause this. The other instances happened on city roads and similar to the freeway instances. Hard braking for no reason, jolting me and passengers forward and causing vehicles behind me to not understand why we stopped randly and took so long to get going forward again as the emergency system doesn’t have a quick override.

14 Automatic Emergency Braking problem of the 2021 Acura RDX

Failure Date: 07/12/2022

All software systems failed, disabling the vehicle. Error messages included failure in braking, steering, and other vital systems. Acura roadside assistance determined that the car had to be towed to the nearest dealer. The dealer confirmed the issue was a "dtc p061b pcm internal malfunction" and performed a "pgm-fi software update to correct the issue. " the vehicle was completely disabled, and we were 4 1/2 hours from the nearest dealership. There were no warnings or communications prior to the incident.

15 Automatic Emergency Braking problem of the 2021 Acura RDX

Failure Date: 08/25/2021

On 3 separate occasions my collision mitigation braking system has malfunctioned. The first time I was driving at 55 with my cruise control set with no cars in front, behind or beside me when, without warning or reason, the orange brake light abruptly flashed on my front dash panel and my car abruptly stopped in a whiplash manner. The second occasion I was driving on the interstate at 65, on this particular interstate, the 64, it splits to the right to a separate interstate, the 264, and cars wait until the last minute to go 3 lanes of traffic over to get off. My car again without warning or reason flashed the orange brake sign on my front dash panel and my car abruptly stopped. Thankfully the cars rushing over did not hit me but there were honks and swerves and I could have been hit or caused an accident. The third incident occurred 8/25/21 with my son in the car while the feature was disabled, I was not close to the car in front of me, at least 2 car lengths as we were sitting in traffic and all trying to merge left, thankfully this time I was able to take control of the brake because I was going at a speed of ~5 but it scared my special needs son to the point of not being able to go back over that bridge.

17 Automatic Emergency Braking problem of the 2021 Acura RDX

Failure Date: 05/09/2021

On may 9th we were driving on the freeway at around 3 pm on a sunlit clear day. It was a straight section of road. Dry pavement and traffic moving reasonably well. The car in front of us was at least 100 yards in front of us and about the same for the vehicle behind I believe. We were going around 50 mph. The car slammed on the brakes so hard the seat belt restraints engaged as we flew forward, enough so that my wife and I were both sore the next day. Items on the back seat flew onto the floor. If there had been a car behind us we would have been rear ended and potentially a multi car pile up. We took the car to the dealership the next day. They had the car for the day and returned it saying everything is calibrated as it should be. I have called Acura and they set up a case number and a case manager and said they would call me. They have not called nor returned my repeated phone calls. I have asked for a supervisor to call and that has not happened either. Acura’s case number is 12213602 and simon is the case manager. His phone is 800 999 1009 x87723. The supervisor’s name is terry. I don’t have an extension number for her. We have grandkids that ride in car seats in the back seat. Thank god this didn’t happen with one or both in the back seat with a car behind us. We have been driving cars with the braking feature on them for 10 years now (Ford and infinity) and have never had anything like this happen. We’ve had the adaptive cruise pick up on something in the past and ease off the accelerator but never anything like this. The cruise was not engaged when this occurred. In googling this it sounds like we aren’t the only ones having this issue.

18 Automatic Emergency Braking problem of the 2019 Acura RDX

Failure Date: 09/30/2020

Car stalls while accelerating. Must turn off and restart to drive again. While entering freeway with signal, car jerks hard to correct lane transition. Car breaks hard with large distance between 2 vehicles.

19 Automatic Emergency Braking problem of the 2020 Acura RDX

Failure Date: 08/31/2020

On two occasions the Acura collision mitigation braking system "cmbs" engaged erroneously and aggressively. 1)whilst traveling on an interstate in heavy traffic at a speed of about 50 mph, the car we were following momentarily braked then quickly accelerated. Accordingly our vehicle was braked, and upon releasing the brake to continue to follow the flow of traffic, the Rdx's system misread the clear road ahead and automatically braked, hard, fully stopping the vehicle. The vehicle behind us skidded to the shoulder to avoid hitting us, and it almost caused a multi-car pile up. 2) while driving on a two-way two-lane road the system engaged while rounding a bend of about 30 degrees at about 25 mph. A vehicle was coming around the apex of the bend in the opposite direction (other vehicle bending to the left) just as our vehicle also reached the apex of the turn (bending to the right right); the cmbs flashed "brake", but as no braking was warranted nor applied, the cmbs system flashed "brake" on the dash and subsequently braked abruptly, again stopping the vehicle in a traffic lane with a clear road ahead. We currently have two other vehicles with forward collision mitigation systems and have had that features in three other vehicles since 2015. I've never experienced this type of behavior.
