I have a 2020 Acura Rdx. In December 2022 I came out to my car and when I opened the door the entire back windshield was shattered like a piece of ice. The glass broke off into little shards all over the back of the car. Also, leaving me to drive my young daughter in the freezing cold. I had it repaired which they were able to fox the glass but not get all the shards out of the car. Yesterday, December 25l4, 2025 I went to my car which had been sitting in the garage for two days and the same thing occurred. There is glass all over my car and my garage. I have a young child and dog who could step on or touch the shards.

The rear window shattered. It is a safety issue because my window shattered as I was in a public parking lot and I had no idea. Also u had groceries in my trunk and now tiny pieces of glass was near my bags no but bulletin TSB 22-014 identified the issue.
This is the 2nd time the back window shattered, lucky my insurance covers it. . But say this it still happen would it be a third time next? 1st time it shattered was on January 18, 2023. 2nd time it shattered it was on December 18 2025. Imagine driving on the highway and you here your back window pop and the glass come flying in? sounds dangerous! lucky it was parked when that happen as I got into my car. I did reported the 1st time to a dealership but not help at all. No one have inspected the vehicle only my insurance knows about the broken back window.
After work, while entering my vehicle and as I close the drivers side door; the rear windshield/window shattered randomly without external force.
Rear back window shattered without any impact from debris or objects.
The rear window shattered when the front passenger door was closed. Research confirms this is a known defect and has occurred with numerous other owners, even while driving. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who refused to repair, stating my vehicle wasn't included in TSB 22-014. The vehicle VIN is included in TSB 22-014. The window was repaired out of pocket with another company. There was no warning. This occurred on 12/15/2025.
Back windshield glass exploded with no impact. Car was not moving. There is shattered glass everywhere and the car cannot be driven until it is repaired. This appears to be a well known issue but there is no official recall at this time. My Acura dealer said this was covered in warranty that expired in November. The incident happened December 13, 2025.

Rear hatch glass just shattered on its own while parked in garage overnight.
We are noticing what many others are with similar age Rdx models - the headlamp assemblies are terribly dim leading to low visibility without using the high beams (not always possible). We have replaced the headlamps with really high output ones, with no real difference. The faulty inside of the headlamp assemblies are making it much harder to see at night, especially in rain or other bad weather. At highway speeds, we rarely see obstacles until we're right on top of them.

Car was in park and running idle and randomly the back windshield completely shattered. The car had been on for a while probably at least 20 minutes so it wasn’t that the window all of a sudden got really warm compared to the outside cold temperature. Had safelite replaced the window, but there are still a bunch of shards of glass in the tailgate because that would have to be fully replaced in order to remove all those glass shards and there’s no other way to do it. This is apparently a very common issue on the Acura Rdx and there is a facebook group with many people having the same issue with the rear windshield randomly shattering for no reason whatsoever. It seems like Acura dealerships acknowledge this issue, but there has been no recall.
My rear windshield shattered in January 2025 while I was setting in the parking lot of a store. It was replaced in 1\6\2025. Today 12\8\25 my rear windshield shattered again while I was coming out of a store to my vehicle. I talked to the dealership as soon as it happened and they said that Acura knows about it but does not have a recall. So, I looked up about 2019 rear windshield shattering and there are more complaints about this issue, but nothing is being done, and this is dangerous issue because what would happen if I was driving and it shattered.
1:sunroof frame shifts creating a popping noise during certain driving conditions. Turning and going up a drive way. 2:distracting for the driver and passengers stay concerned the whole time. 3:there is a service bulletin with Acura 23-004 but no recall to the matter. 4: unknown 5:no warning lamps.
Rear hatch window shattered sitting in driveway. This is a known issue and tons of people have reported it. There is many groups on facebook documenting the issue.
Back windshield shattered and blew out with zero impact. Car was parked manufacturer denies responsibility . Independent company repaired because dealer was booked and needed fixed quickly. No one injured glass all over back of car and trapped in base of doo now because of faulty design. No warnings at all.
The rear window shattered when bringing it in from the colder weather to a garage. There was no impact, nor was the rear door used. The car was brough to the garage from being outside at 9 pm on 12/1. When we got in the car on 12/2 at 11:30 am, the rear window was shattered. There is no evidence of forced entry, just shattered glass on the inside. The repair is going to cost $627 the car rental is around $80.

Today 11/18/25 I entered my car, closed driver door when back window shattered. This is the second time this has happened. I did not report the first time but after reading up on this I realized this is a recurring problem with Acura Rdx.
Back window of 2019 Acura Rdx just blew up. Sat in garage from mid day Wednesday and Sunday November 16th of November 2025, it just blew up.
On February 7, 2024 I called insurance and filed a claim for my vehicle that was sitting in my driveway at the time of the incident. Upon getting in my car, the rear windshield, which had no chips, breaks, lights, etc. Imploded into my vehicle. They stated they believed this happened due to the defroster. It was repaired using insurance at a certified local glass repair shop. Today, 11/14/25 I was making a turn from a stopped position and yet again the rear window imploded into my vehicle. The rear window had no issues at the time of implosion and is parked safely inside a garage to prevent weather effects. This is a very clear safety issue as I have a car seat in my back seat that are all rear facing and the window has now imploded twice. Acura acknowledged this, and as provided so hasn't the nhsta. But the safety concern is refusing to be fixed and I cannot continue to have a vehicle that the rear glass implodes within two years causing potential harm to children, and back seat passengers.
I was just leaving from work to home as soon as I entered in my car, I saw a big hole in my rear windshield( back glass) and it seems like whole glass shattered.
On Wednesday, November 5th, the rear glass on my 2019 Acura Rdx spontaneously shattered without warning. I brought the vehicle to safelite for repair; however, they were unable to assist due to the technical complexity of removing and replacing the glass. I then contacted an Acura dealership by phone and was advised that I may be required to replace the entire rear hatch, rather than just the glass. I have since learned that technical service bulletin (TSB) 22-014 acknowledges an issue affecting rear-glass failure, but it is limited to certain 2019–2020 models and VIN ranges. No recall has been issued, despite numerous reports of this same defect. Additionally, there is an ongoing class-action lawsuit related to this issue (tyzcko & zavareei llp). I am submitting this complaint because Acura is refusing to repair or replace the shattered rear glass despite its being a known design defect. This failure represents a serious safety hazard, as occupants seated in the rear of the vehicle could be severely injured if the glass were to shatter while in motion. I believe Acura must be held responsible and required to issue a recall, as well as provide repair coverage, especially for vehicles now out of warranty. I respectfully request that NHTSA investigate this issue due to the clear safety concerns and growing number of similar incidents.
1/2020 and 11/2025 rear window spontaneous broke / blew up while turning car on.
I had found a leak coming from my 2021 Acura Rdx early November. I took it into the dealership December 1st to get it diagnosed and they stated that the transmission and transfer case needs to get replaced. Du the problem has been confirmed by the bloomington Acura dealership on December 1st 2025. After doing research online it looks like this has happened to multiple people with different Acura models, including newer models of Rdx, tlx and mdx. No warning lamps, messages or failures appeared. Just oil leaking beneath the vehicle. It looks like Acura is aware of the issue. The metal shavings from the splines between the transmission and transfer case is destroying the seal. Causing the oil leak hence a new transmission and transfer case.
We have owned our 2019 Acura Rdx for about 4 years. Roughly 2 years ago my wife called me panicked that the car had lost power and the check engine light was on as she was exiting the freeway. It was a rainy day, she had our kids in the car on the way to a soccer game. I called off work with an emergency, drove an hour to where she was and scanned the car. No codes popped up on my scanner, I started the vehicle and it seemed to run like normal, no check engine light. I had it towed to Honda of gresham, or and after a week or so they called and said they couldn't find anything wrong with our vehicle. I paid for a oil change, a tow and a dealer diagnostics and was told they could not find anything. $500 later no answers. Fast forward 2 years oct 26th 2025 I was driving the Rdx this time, in the rain on the freeway. Wife and kids in the car. Went to accelerate past a slow driver and the car went into limp mode. Check engine light flashing and limited to 40 mph or so, I put the hazards on as I was on a single lane bridge with traffic behind me. I pulled over after the bridge and turned the vehicle off. After 5 minutes or so I started the car again and everything seems fine, no check engine lights nothing seems off. I continued on down the freeway without any more incident. I started researching what is going on and find many many reports of this same thing. Acura has a TSB for a front mount intercooler as the fix, but when I took ours in for the stated problem they couldn't find a problem. This car looks beautiful, but it's a safety hazard on the freeway when moisture is present, we live in the pnw and it rains 7 months out of the year. I have owned 10-12 hondas in my lifetime and this 2019 Acura Rdx is the worst. Absolutely a safety hazard to my family. Disappointed this will be the last Honda we buy.
Upon exiting my car, I heard a loud crashing sound. The rear windshield had completely shattered upon closing the driver side door and glass was everywhere. Had my rear windshield decided to spontaneously implode 5 minutes earlier while driving on the interstate, I most likely would have had a bad car accident. Acura has a service bulletin out regarding this, as it’s a known issue. They refuse to cover cost or do a recall on this known safety issue. Someone is going to get killed when their back windshield blows out driving and they think they’ve been shot. Absolutely terrible and irresponsible on Acura/Honda’s part.
The sunroof of the vehicle spontaneously shattered while driver was driving on I-5 south in orange county, California. Driver’s safety was compromised due to the potential for glass to have entered the vehicle while vehicle was in motion. The safety of other motorists on the road was also compromised, as pieces of glass appear to have flown off the sunroof into traffic. The sudden shattering was also extremely loud and startling, which was also a safety hazard because driver could have panicked and lost control of vehicle. After calling to report the incident to Acura, owner was advised the vehicle’s sunroof has not been recalled nor is it under an extended warranty, despite evidence of a class action lawsuit against american Honda motor CO. , inc. For related incidents in 2015 to 2021 vehicles. Per the lawsuit, which is a case out of California, the alleged defect in 2015 to 2021 model year Honda and Acura vehicles, referred to in the complaint as the “class vehicles,” puts drivers and their passengers in “serious danger,” as the sunroof explosions can cause “shards of glass to fly through their vehicles, sometimes while driving at high speeds,” and “the loud explosion and flying glass distract drivers and create a hazard to the people in the class vehicles and those around them. ” the complaint alleges that the sunroofs in Honda and Acura vehicles are made with tempered glass that, because of the pressure created during the tempering process, has been known to “explode suddenly” if the outer layer is compromised. The lawsuit also claims Honda’s use of thin tempered glass for its sunroofs is “substandard, dangerous, and inadequate” given the material’s propensity to shatter or explode.

Back window exploding while sitting for no reason at all.
The back window burst randomly with no pressure. There are thousands of complaints in the facebook groups. The car was parked when this happened in.
I was parked in a parking lot and went to put groceries in the back cargo area. I pushed the button to open my rear hatch, heard a plink sound as it was raising, looked and my entire rear windshield had shattered. This is a known issue - Acura even sent out a notice bulletin but supposedly will only fix it free of charge if the car is still under warranty. I don't believe I should have to pay to fix this = it is a reasonable expectation to believe your windshields won't spontaneously shatter when there is no contact whatsoever.
As I was driving down the highway, I heard a loud noise that sounded like an explosion of some sort I was going about 65 miles an hour on the expressway [xxx] and [xxx], when I realized that my sunroof had to have shattered. I pulled off the highway and confirmed this. Luckily, my headliner was closed and all the glass that shattered was inside of that. The weather was sunny, I was not under an overpass or something fell on the glass nor did anything fly up and hit the glass. It just shattered for no reason. I immediately contacted the Acura dealership in jacksonville, which was my destination and was informed in a couple days that not only was that not a warranty item but also the sunroof was on backorder with no eta of its delivery the car is drivable obviously, but not if it rain as it would rain in my car and destroy my headliner. I went back to my home in hendersonville, nc was able to find a sunroof repair company that had my sunroof model in stock and it was replaced. However, when I contacted the dealership in hendersonville, they told me the same thing that they had no idea when the sunroof would be in so it was left to me to resolve the situation. I had filed a report with Acura asking them to replace and pay for a new sunroof. I have made a complaint and I have a claim number. I’m waiting for resolution. My back window blew out, without any cause. It was parked in my driveway on a 60 degree day. There is a known issue with the 2020 Acura Rdx. There is even a service bulletin Acura issued to dealerships TSB 22-014. Acura dealership said was not covered under warranty and I would need to pay out of pocket.
An Acura dealership won't diagnose a rear windshield issue, and I contact twice the Acura corporate to express my concern and they told me to contact a different Acura dealership. My car rear windshield shattered twice since I bought it.
When I go to accelerate to pass another vehicle car completely shuts down stops running and all warning lights come on. Car is powerless in middle of making a pass which is very concerning have to coast to side of road putting me a perilous situation hoping I don't get hit head on before I can get off the road. Took car to dealer they said bad turbo so change turbo. Two weeks after repair started to pass another car and it did it again exactly like first time. Car is currently at dealer waiting on diagnosis. I feel like this is big safety issue and I don't feel safe driving car that constantly loses power when passing someone.
Complaint summary I am filing this complaint regarding american Honda motor corp’s handling of a warranty claim on my 2021 Acura Rdx. Despite being within the 4-year/50,000-mile warranty, I was denied full coverage for a well-documented defect: condensation/moisture in both headlight housings with no external damage. •dealer (rick case Acura, sunrise FL) confirmed the condition. •technician francisco documented internal moisture, no external damage. •service manager wade bell submitted goodwill request [xxx], which was approved at 70% only. •my out-of-pocket responsibility was ~$1,400. •I requested full coverage from american Honda, consistent with Acura’s warranty obligations and known issues with these headlight assemblies. On a recorded call, american Honda repeatedly stated my request was denied, refused to provide a written denial, and declined to issue a case reference number directly. Only after reviewing an email did I locate the case number ([xxx]). This refusal to document their denial is highly concerning. ________________________________________ timeline of events •[xxx]: moisture first observed after rain; confirmed by dealer technician. •dealer request: goodwill [xxx] approved at 70%. •repairs completed: both headlights replaced; repair order available. •Sep 2025: american Honda denied my appeal verbally on recorded call; refused written denial. ________________________________________ manufacturer guidance ignored importantly: american Honda’s own dealer service bulletin (2023) regarding 2019–2021 Acura Rdx headlamps explicitly instructs dealers •“create an in case number (via Acuralink/dealer in) when moisture or condensation is observed inside Rdx headlamp housings with no external damage present. ” •“submit for goodwill/warranty replacement of the affected headlamp assemblies. ” this vehicle falls squarely within that guidance: a 2021 Rdx, <4 years old, <50k miles, with moisture documented by the dealer. Despite this, a information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5.
