Power Train Problems of Acura RDX - part 2

Since we have had the car we have had multiple issues with the car jerking and shifting hard after driving in s mode then going to standard mode. Dealership told us the transmission is "sensitive" in our model year and if we go 1 mile overdue for a transmission fluid flush we will have shudder/jerking/ hard shifting. (we have changed the transmission fluid 1-2x since have had the car, which is within range of recommended). Last episode- battery was dead, jumpstarted and car jerking at low speeds to the point I did not drive it and had it told. We were also told their was a short in the circuit board that controlled Acuralink and what charged the battery. Jerking transmission related per dealership. Lastly the sound for the blind spot monitoring is intermittently not working.

I have a 2021 Rdx. Was on the interstate moving at about 70 mph coming back from missouri. Raining. Lots of semis creating huge following misty, hard to see rain. Decided to accelerate to pass a couple. Car nearly stalled and acted like it had lost a cylinder's worth of power. Turned on hazards, slowed, pulled over and lifted the hood hearing all kinds of unusual noises. Shut the car off and restarted. All was well. Turned all lane-keeping, etc. Off including cruise. Drove the last 100 miles or so without incident. Called dealer and was told likely didn't pull a code. Don't worry and keep driving. Said to make sure front of car was clean. Duh!! I keep my ride spotless (unless driving in the rain). Called CA's Acura line. Absolutely no help. 2 different females had no idea what limp mode was. Read quite a bit since then finding out it could be the result of many things including problems that could damage the motor and/or tranny. Wow!!! had never heard of "limp mode" before. Nice that no info on this possible problem was anywhere in any user manual. Car has performed flawlessly ever since. So far, I guess the rain had interfered with the "radar" system and confused the computer. I'm thinking about buying a 40 year old car that doesn't have any of the modern computers etc. Later found info regarding TSB 20-053 which explains the problem and proposed solution. 06-26-2022 06:52 pm.

Keyless entry system failed at under 50k miles. When this keyless access unit fails, you cannot start the car and the powertrain. The only way to resolve is to have the car towed to the dealership and have the part orders and installed at over $800. In a worst case scenario, the driver could be stranded in unsafe conditions -- weather extremes (heat or cold) or parking at the side of the freeway unable to restart the car. I believe this is a huge safety issue and too common for this model Acura. This is clearly a critical system component that has failed far before it should. There is no way to turn the vehicle on as this is a keyless entry vehicle.

The car accelerated rapidly when I came to a stop. When I brought it to, the dealership they found 3 problems with the transmission. First, the transmission had overheated, there were problems in the clutch assembly, and I don't know the third.

While driving, the car slips into manual gear shift and is slow to accelerate and it will have a hard shift of gears from 20 - 60 mph. The emissions check and transmission indicator lights are on. I can not drive the car safely because of the jerks of gear shifts or the slow acceleration when driving on roads and highways. The car is being inspected for transmission issues with concerns that there is severe damage requiring a replacement of the transmission.

On 9/22/22 travelling on I-290 near boylston, MA I was passing a large tractor trailer in the far left lane going up a hill. It was and had been raining very hard for at least the previous hour. When I stepped on the accelerator to increase speed, the car suddenly decelerated to about 20 mph and the check engine light began flashing. I was able cross all three lanes in very heavy traffic to the shoulder. I then slowly made my way off the interstate to a gas station right beyond the exit. My passengers and I were very concerned about the suddenness and the abrupt reduction in speed on an extremely busy roadway. A call to the nearest Acura dealer service department confirmed he had seen nearly the same symptoms the prior week under similar road conditions and the same model car as mine. He found no codes on the other car. I also notified Acura customer service who confirmed the existence of a service bulletin on precisely this issue (flashing light with loss of power).

I was accelerating up a hill on a wv highway in a steady rain, the engine cut power, the check engine light flashed on and off, further throttle input did nothing, the car slowed on its own. I had to pull over from the left lane dangerously cutting in front of vehicles in the right lane as I could no longer maintain highway speed. Shut the car down and waited to rekey. Vehicle has operated fine ever since. The dealer has not been able to duplicated the issue (two weeks afterwards).

Transmission slips and shifts hard causing the car to lurch foreward. It also loses power when accelerating.

On July 24, 2022, while driving from champaign-urbana, illinois back to our home in lisle, IL, in a heavy rainstorm, our Rdx suddenly started flashing the engine light and lost power on interstate 57. We were fortunate to be able to maneuver it to the side of the road, and off the nearby ramp at bradley, IL. We ‘googled’ the circumstances on our iphone, to learn that this is considered a serious, potentially life-threatening situation, and that Acura recommended immediate service bulletin 20-053, dated may 25, 2021, states the symptom as “the mil is flashing with loss of power. ” it indicates “corrective action” for the Rdx as “update the pgm-fi and replace the intercooler, the intercooler outlet pipe assembly and the intercooler outlet hose. ” affected vehicles include “all” 2019-2020 Rdx models. ” despite the service bulletin that was issued, many Rdx owners, noted the same response from their local Acura dealer. They note that the dealers “played dumb,” claim they could not locate a service code, nor “replicate the conditions and response” in the shop…. Precisely my experience! in fact, the service receipt, indicates the car was driven less than one mile, hardly sufficient to replicate conditions. Acura client relations has refused to assist. I contacted the ceo jon ikeda but his office has not responded. I fear driving the car in wet conditions.

I've had the vehicle since around 44 k , purchase and shortly months later technology lighting a battery issues, someone started hacking me saying they were a car warranty services , harassment in cybersecurity daily I've had over 6-8 electrical light replacements, 2-3 battery replacements, 3 alternator replacements, hacking is daily asking me to pay brides of 1000. 00 which I have never participated in, someone talks the entire time stating they are getting my information, hacked my plates, tries to control the vehicle and using cyber security. Department of justice suggested to go to Acura dealer for cyber ecu reset , inquired car about the car someone hacked the car saying they are trying to steal social security benefits, and preventing employment and want to impact finances. Car was hacked and shut down had triple aaa come out to look at the vehicle which was not working was informed it was the communicator of the body throttle but would need to have dealer process and program because of computer communication to release and preform gas pedal and power train. Picture video proving the noise and item car unable to lock some one broke into the vehicle and impacted the timing belt and etc. I have documents to support but want to be cautious of hackers and would be willing to share directly for safety pre-cautions.

The contact owns a 2020 Acura Rdx. The contact stated while driving at 70 mph in the rain, the vehicle upshifted and downshifted independently. The check engine warning illuminated. The vehicle continued to downshift. The contact depressed the accelerator pedal but it failed to respond, and the vehicle continued to decelerate. The contact veered to the side of the road and parked the vehicle. The contact then turned off the vehicle for 30 seconds. The contact stated that as he restarted the vehicle, the engine light was no longer illuminated and the vehicle operated as needed while driving. The dealer was notified of the failure and an appointment was scheduled. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 36,000.

The contact owns a 2019 Acura Rdx. The contact stated while driving approximately 35-40 mph, the vehicle failed to exceed 40 mph upon depressing the accelerator pedal. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact veered to the side of the road, where she turned off and restarted the vehicle, and the vehicle operated as needed; however, the failure recurred several times while driving. The contact stated that she veered to the side of the road, turned off and restarted the vehicle on each occasion, and the vehicle operated as needed. The contact stated that the failure had been occurring intermittently. The vehicle was taken to the dealer several times, but the dealer could not duplicate the failure. The contact stated that she had recorded the failure in a video, which was sent to the manufacturer; however, the manufacturer did not provide assistance and referred the contact to the dealer. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 55,000.

On 2/3/22, after only 12 hours of owning the vehicle, I merged onto 287 south and upon speeding up and merging into the center lane, I lost all acceleration and my dash lit up like a christmas tree. An 18 wheeler was coming behind me in the middle lane at 65 mph while my car slowed down to 25 mph. I was thankfully able to get over to the side of the road without being hurt or even killed. Upon bringing it into the dealer, the codes showed that it was a bad engine coil and spark plug. This was repaired under warranty. Fast forward to 5/16/22, I exited the highway, came to a complete stop at a red light. Upon the light turning green, I went to accelerate and limp mode activated again. I have video of the incident and dealership is unable to find any issues with the vehicle. Both times it was either raining or had just stopped. I have asked that the intercooler be replaced as part of bulletin 20-053 however the dealership states my vehicle is not part of this bulletin although it lists the model and year. This is a serious problem that requires a recall. I hope Acura is not waiting for someone to get hurt before they take action!.

I was driving for approx. 3 hours on the interstate and exited to return home. After stopping at the red light my car would not excel. The rpm where moving up to 4 plus but the car wouldn’t go over 20 miles an hour when pressing the excelerator. No warning lights came on but I pulled over and turned the car off trying to decide what to do. I couldn’t get back on the road driving 20 miles an hour because it wouldn’t be safe. I decided to restarted the car then I drove 2 miles home without incident. I will take the car to the dealer after the holidays because I’m scared to drive it. I bought the car with 25,000 miles and it now has 32,000 miles on it.

Transmission was stuck in 1st gear. This situation happened to me while stopped at red light with auto idle stop engaged, when it restarted at green light, transmission got stuck in 1st gear, I drove for about 1/4 mile and still the vehicle would not shift gears. I pulled over safely to the curb, shut down the car, waited 10 seconds and restarted, vehicle drove normally back home I had it all recorded on my dash cam and took the car to the dealer, showed the video and there were zero findings, nothing was recorded on the car error logs according to the dealer.

Pulled out to pass and when I tried to accelerate, the engine basically died. It didn't turn off, but dropped to limp mode and the check engine light started flashing. Engine stayed in limp mode until being turned off and on again. In limp mode, car would not even go 10 mhp on even a slight uphill incline. Doubt it would have made it up more of a hill. This could be a huge safety problem if there had been more traffic. Acura is aware of the problem and says it is a design flaw with the turbo intercooler, but they don't have parts to fix it. They said pulling over and turning the car off for a minute and restarting it should fix the problem, which it did for me, but that isn't always safe to do. Acura also said it is out of warranty and I will have to pay for the repair out of pocket. Owners need to be aware their car could die unexpectedly when trying to accelerate and what to do to correct it, and Acura/Honda needs to recall and repair this!.

My 2019 Acura Rdx suddenly lost power while accelerating on two occasions this year. Both times it occurred in clear weather with temperatures around 80 degrees. The first time it happened was on 7/15/2021 when I was accelerating onto a us highway. The second time was on 10/4/2021 when accelerating from a stoplight. Both times I had to coast to the side of the road due to loss of power. I was able to restore power by restarting the engine. Please investigate since loss of acceleration can lead to crashes. For example, it can be deadly if it occurs while passing on a 2-lane road or making a left turn in front of oncoming traffic. Thanks.

Driving at night in rain on interstate 81n in southern virginia. I pressed accelerator all the way to pass and the car downshifted and then lost power. The engine light was flashing. I did not have enough power to maintain adequate highway speed while in the midst of a passing maneuver. While car was decelerating (with foot on accel pedal with no apparent response) I activated hazard lights and made my way across traffic to the shoulder. 70mph speed limit. I dropped to 50mph or so rather quickly amid traffic that put me and the traffic around me in a dangerous situation. Once stopped on shoulder (again in a dangerous situation that I'd prefer to avoid), I turned ignition off for 10 seconds and then restarted car. Situation seems to have cleared up; no engine light flashing and full? power. It did not happen again when I pressed accelerator to floor to recreate situation. This vehicle has 3800 miles on it.

When accelerating, my vehicle continues to have sudden deceleration, loss of power and stalls. While driving, the vehicle continues to have very sudden decelerate and loses power which is very dangerous given the volume and speed of other vehicles on the road. When driving steady for more than 30 minutes, you can hear the vehicle downshift or trying to go into another gear. It's only a matter of time before an accident happens if it has not yet already happened to someone else where life if not worth the risk. . Given the number vehicle owners who have had this same experience, I do not understand why this vehicle has not been recalled. It needs to be recalled as soon as possible before a life is involved. By the time the dealer checks for transmission issues, of course they do not find anything after a 10-minute drive which is very frustrating for the owner only to experience this issue over and over again! I am an unsatisfied and frighten by my experience. This issues also seems to be getting worse and worse!!!!!! no crash. . . . . Yet!.

On 7/24/2021 around 6. 30pm, the transmission on my Rdx suddenly failed. The problem happened when I attempted to accelerated when entering a highway. I temporarily fixed the problem by turning engine off and re-starting.

Driving 40 mph in heavy rain, had to accelerate quickly while changing lanes, engine when into derate. Check engine flashing, loss of power, engaged 4 way flasher, went 25mph to interstate exit.

While driving, the engine suddenly lost power and started blinking the engine light and went into the "limp mode" mentioned here: https://topclassactions. This could have caused a crash without the power to drive on the highway.

Brand new 2021 Rdx - bought 3 days ago, only 128 miles. Driving on highway and it suddenly loses power. Was able to get to shoulder, but unable to get enough power to exit the highway to find a safer place to park. Check engine light and several transmission warnings indicating I should see dealer immediately. As vehicle came close to a stop, it shuddered and clunked so badly it seemed like I ran something over, but nothing was there. Tried to shut vehicle down and restart, but constant error messages and would only lurch a little. Had to have vehicle towed to dealership, but of course they said they never heard of this happening before.

Stopped at a red light, I was waiting for the opportunity to make a right turn. When the right lane was free of traffic I began to turn into that lane, but an approaching car made a lane change as it neared the intersection, and I let my foot off the accelerator for a split second before I realized I was too far into the lane. I tried to accelerate quickly to avoid getting rear-ended, but my Acura Rdx's transmission hesitated and the engine raced in neutral. Fortunately the appoaching car was able to swerve back into the left lane and thus avoid hitting me. Not all drivers are as attentive as that driver had been, and I felt very fortunate to have not been hit. My husband and I have taken the car into the dealership multiple times, but they are unable to duplicate the transmission problem, though it continues to occur. We feel this random hesitation in the six-speed transmission during a crucial accident avoidance manuever could easily result in a collision.

Hard, jerking shifting at approximately 20 mph. Potential problem moving in close traffic such as from traffic light or entering traffic. No diagnostic warning/error lights. I’ve taken my car to crown Acura 14080 brookpark rd, cleveland, OH on July 11, 2022 for diagnosing and servicing the problem. It’s an intermittent problem so they couldn’t replicate so they couldn’t diagnose the problem. They flushed and changed the transmission fluid, bc and did a complete servicing. The service report does not show the transmission fluid filter was cleaned or replaced. I’ve found the problem mentioned a on the internet a number of times. , but the mechanics were not aware of any transmission problems. I find it hard to believe Acura isn’t aware of the problem and how to fix it. The problem is intermittent and has been happening for over a year. The problem still hasn’t been diagnosed. I’m concerned my transmission will be damaged if the problem isn’t fixed. Most recent shifting problem was 4 times in about 30 min starting at ~9:30pm on July 21, 2022.

Three hours into a four hour road trip, we had been driving in the rain when needed to overtake a slow car in the right lane. Went to accelerate when car lost all power and a check engine light came on flash. Pulled over to the emergency lane and turned flasher on. Car had to be glided into the lane as there was little to no power when using the gas. Thankfully we had not passed the vehicle yet when we lost power and the car behind us had enough room to slow down. After turning the car off and on again check engine light went off and car had normal power again. We were able to drive it for the next hour without further issue. We will be bringing this into the dealer to have it inspected. Currently car has only around 18k miles on it and have never had this issue before.

My car's engine quit as I was about to make a right turn off a 6 lane road. It would not restart. By design, the transmission immediately goes into park (electrickly). There is no way for the driver to put it into neutral so it could be pushed or serviced by a flat bed tow truck. As a result my car blocked the turn lane requiring numerous cars to go around me putting my wife and I in danger of being hit. It also put the drivers of cars who were detouring around me in danger of collision with cars in the three thru lanes. The police placed one of their cars in the lane with lights on to mitigate the danger. They also tried to start my car un-succcessfully. The dealer repaired my car by replacing a defective "o" ring in the fuel pump pressure line. This was a recall item I had previously had done by the dealer.

Vehicle constantly surges during acceleration, seems as if the transmission is bad however, it also feels as if the fuel filter is clogged. This sputter occurs at various speed. Vehicle has less than 64,000 miles. Is there a fix to this issue?.

It was mildly raining and I went to accellerate onto the highway and all a sudden without warning the car started to violently shake and stutter and the car lost all power and I was almost hit by another car because I lacked power. The vehicle then refused to accelerate and I had to dangerously glide off the highway without power and the vehicle had to be towed. Every check engine light came on. I then had the vehicle fixed and they said it was a problem with an engine coil. Three weeks later in the same situation in the mild rain the exact same problem happened again. I went to get on the highway in a mild rain the car broke down the exact same way. I am waiting for it get diagnosed again.

While accelerating the car started stuttering and lost power. It seemed like it was in neutral. At the light I shifted to park and back to drive and the same problem occurred. I was only 2 blocks from home so I checked all fluid levels and they are all ok. I drove the car around the block several times and the problem went away.

On 4/17/2021 my wife and I were traveling form florida to California, while traveling on I -49n in louisiana I went to accelerate around a slower car and when I pushed the gas our car lost power and the check engine light started flashing causing us to suddenly slow down and almost being stuck by other automobiles in traffic. I was able to make it over to the shoulder of the interstate and shut off our SUV for about ten minutes and the issue was gone.

I was on a three hour drive in the rain and around the 2. 5 hour mark I attempted to overtake a vehicle by rapidly accelerating. The vehicle had a complete loss of power and the check engine light illuminated. The car would not accelerate however the engine was running. I had to get to the shoulder across multiple lanes without engine power. The vehicle would only drive at idle speed until I powered the vehicle down and restarted at which time normal operation resumed and the check engine light was no longer illuminated. This is the second time this has occurred on a lengthy drive in the rain both times when attempting to overtake another vehicle. The latest occurrence was on April 10th 2021. The Acura dealership was unable to replicate or find any error codes in the ecu and directed me to corporate Acura to file a case. There's been no traction with that case and the vehicle remains unsafe to operate in the rain.

The contact owned a 2020 Acura Rdx. The contact stated while driving approximately 35 mph, the vehicle inadvertently slowed down and without warning a strange noise came from the engine compartment and a sudden jerk to the wheel when the vehicle accelerated without warning up to approximately 100 mph. The contact was able to exit the highway where the vehicle made another strange noise from the engine compartment and the wheel jerked when the vehicle accelerated without warning again which resulted in the contact crashing into a group of 3 vehicles. There were 2 confirmed injuries which were the occupants of the contact's vehicle the driver and front seat passenger. The contact sustained a broken sternum, internal bleeding, decompression of lower back, and swollen right side foot. The contact's son sustained a lumbar fracture and a contusion. The contact does not know if anyone in the other vehicles were injured. A police report was taken and the vehicle was towed to an insurance lot. The vehicle was then towed to a salvaged lot and deemed a total loss. The contact stated she does not know if warning lights were illuminated. The manufacturer was informed of the failure and told the contact that they were unable to assist. The failure mileage was approximately 5,040.

On 2 occasions while accelerating from a complete stop, the vehicle would barely accelerate beyond 5 mph even while attempting to reach normal speed of 35 mph. The vehicle rpm's were at 6,000 - 7,000 indicating the accelerator was telling the engine to produce propulsion, yet the only way to correct the issue was to park, turn off the vehicle, and restart the engine. This appears to be a re-occurring issue with the transmission / drivetrain / software that has been known with Acura transmissions since 2016. Dealer could not find a fault code, drove the vehicle for over 150 miles and could not reproduce the issue. However, there are numerous complains online showing the same issue including a class action lawsuit that was filed in 2020. Yet Acura has issued no recall alert or permanent solution (confirmed by dealer). Issues with the vehicle quickly deaccelerating and entering "limp" mode have also been reported which appears to be similar in nature and root-cause being the transmission / software related issue. This problem can result in unexpected engine failure or inability to operate the vehicle in a high-risk situation such as highway driving, crossing an intersection, causing a vehicle pile-up, or worse. After 4+ years and thousands of reports of the same issue, a federal investigation should be initiated before a larger widespread even occurs similar to what happened with Toyota.
