Seats Problems of Acura RDX

This incident happened on July 5th 2025. My 2024 leased Acura Rdx front passenger seat caught on fire. The car was parked and not driven for two days before this happened. My educated untrained guess and the police officer on the scene guess was that this was an electrical fire. My Acura dealer refuses to repair this and deny that is the issue. Acura told me this never happened before to a 2024 Rdx but I told them this problem happened to years past Acura Rdx. There was no issues with this car. I had this car serviced at Acura in April 2025 for regular maintenance service. As of today Acura refuses to repair or replace the car or admit fault with the electrical issue. I was told by Acura this was a thermal event and nothing else. I have pictures of this and the car is at Acura service department for any inspection since it is untouched by them. Also as of today’s date Acura has not sent me any correspondence of anything to do with my leased Acura Rdx. This is affecting my life and it is very stressing on my family.

Purchased used 2019 Rdx from Acura dealer in June 2025. Within the first 30 days of owning the Rdx we noticed the airbag sensor for the front passenger seat would not recognize my 90 lb daughter seating in the seat and the air bag sensor would indicate the seat was empty, which would result in the airbag not deploying if we were in an accident. I took video of this happening and took my Rdx into dealership for repair as we were still within the 30 day period for issues. The Acura dealership insisted they could not replicate the problem so it was fine. I again referred to the video and said we have seen proof of the issue. After much back and forth and the service manager telling me his large dog sometimes doesn't set off the sensor he agreed to call american Honda to send out an engineer to test. The engineer after running tests said seat is calibrated correctly no issue to fix, even if we wanted to pay to fix it ourselves they wouldn't fix the seat sensor because there is no issue to correct. I don't understand how a car that advertises a safety feature for anyone that weighs over 65lbs can expect me to continue to drive this vehicle when it has a proven faulty sensor. Obviously how they test the sensor is faulty as well. This is a huge safety issue for the 2019 Rdx and a disappointing and shocking lack of response from Acura. We are now working to return the car to the dealership and I am sure we will have to fight to not pay extra costs that will occur with them buying it back.

Complaint about failure to execute recall and lack of solutions from the official dealer I, [xxx] , owner of a 2021 Acura Rdx, VIN: [xxx] , am filing a complaint regarding the inadequate execution of a recall and the lack of solutions from the official dealer. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives, or others? the vehicle was registered for the recall, but a specific inspection by the manufacturer has not taken place. Called southbay Acura in torrance CA on 10/23/24. Told them my 2019 Acura Rdx has the exact same problem that 2019/2020 Rdx's has a recall on. . . Front passenger seat belt buckle will not buckle. . The buckle won't allow the seatbelt to lock. . Dealer said you VIN number is not part of the recall???? yet my Acura Rdx suffers from the exact problem the recall covers. . So I'm asking for your guidance of what to do next. Obviously this is not a safe situation!!! please advise. Approximately on 2/10/2024 shortly after I added my 2021 Acura to my auto policy my insurance CO. Geico notified me about the open recall. Nobody else has notified me on the open recall. I just purchased the vehicle on 1/6/24 from autonation Acura in torrance California. The recall notice says "there is no remedy availablei" I purchased this beautiful cpo vehicle and I put $20,000 cash ( debit card) as a down payment and I had to pay additional costs for the extended 9 yr. Warranty. I financed the rest. The vehicle price was $31. 000 with 20. 000 miles on it. The total costs $44. 000. I haven't even made my first payment yet which is due February 20, 2024. My interest rate is high 8. 99 is the rate and I have excellent credit. I've only put 20 miles or less on the car since I bought it. My auto insurance company now recommended that I do not drive it. My auto insurance could possibly go up in cost as well. I have not drove the car since I learned of the recall. I want my money back and I want to return the vehicle.

Remedy is available for the recall, but Honda will not fix the recall on my 2 vehicle’s that I own with this open recall. They are saying 2025 maybe. Unacceptable.

This is my second complaint to NHTSA. I purchased my certified pre owned Acura on 01/06/2024 after I added my Acura to my car insurance. They notified me and told me that there is an open recall associated with my VIN number. That recall is for a (seat weight sensor) recall # 24v-064000 recall date 02/01/24 -- remedy not available. I filed a complaint with NHTSA id# 11572570. After I filed my first complaint I found another unrepaired recall for my VIN number recall date 02/12/2021 NHTSA # 21v93900 for the power train drive shaft I'm not sure exactly what happened with this specific recall. I also wanted to add to my complaint that since my vehicle is a certified pre owend. I never received a complete inspection report indicating all the components inspected prior to selling me the vehicle. Now that I'm searching through all my paperwork. I also am hesitant with the interest rate. I put $20000 down on the vehicle. And I have excellent credit and my interest rate is 8. 99% I also had to pay for the warranty.

Acura Rdx 2021. Faulty seat weight sensor front passenger seat. My wife is petite, [xxx] " and weighs [xxx]. When she sits in front passenger seat, at times, the seat weight sensor doesn't register that she's sitting in the seat and the air bag is not engaged. Intermittently, the srs light illuminates but many times it doesn't. I've taken the vehicle into the dealer (chevy chase Acura, bethesda, MD) and they say there is nothing they can do when the srs light is not on. I've brought the vehicle into the dealership several times. They say that parts are limited and not generally available and are expedited only when the srs light is illuminated. I've called and spoken with american Honda customer service and they refuse to help stating the same thing the dealer says. But this is definitely a safety issue. Nhsta recall # 24v-064. My wife, 78 years old, is petite. She weighs 75 lbs, height 4'10. " the front passenger seat sensors don't register her as sitting in the seat with the result that the passenger air bag is not engaged (the dashboard light indicates the air bag is off). My vehicle, 2021 Acura Rdx, passenger seat has 2 seat sensors while the mdx model has 4 seat sensors that would register her weight and the air bag system would be engaged. We have not had an accident. The mdx seat is not compatible with the Rdx. Acura says that nothing can be done to rectify the problem. I consider this problem a safety defect.

Told by dealer that the passenger seat frame assembly has a defect but they will not repair it unless I pay approx $1500.

1. I suffered a seatback failure in my 2018 Acura Rdx when I was rear-ended at a high speed. The car is currently with my insurance company but I'm sure it's available for inspection. 2. The seatback failure made a big enough gap between my seat and seatbelt for me to slip completely under my seatbelt. I landed on the backseat floor after I smacked my head on the side rear airbag. I have multiple injuries from the seatback failure and my children would have been hurt from this failure had they been in the car with me. 3. N/a 4. The vehicle was totaled. The insurance adjuster said all seats "had shifted". I asked if that was another word for "broken". He said "yes". 5. No warnings appeared. The car was in perfect working order.

On oct 31 2019 we purchased the 2020 Rdx advance and the passenger front seat airbag light off has been sporadically staying on when my wife is sitting in the passenger seat. Which indicates the airbag is not armed on that side. Luckily we have been taking photos of the switch coming on with her sitting in the seat. They say its a weight issue which is unacceptable. If you turn the car off the airbag light resets to off when she is sitting in the car. If the car is running and you pick up a passenger the airbag light does not turnoff. Dealer responded it being a weight issue and that the sensors are different between the driver and passenger. This is unacceptable safety issue.

Upon acquiring the vehicle, I immediately noticed that the car makes me sick. The issue was with the strong fumes caused by artificial leather. On few occasions I felt so dizzy that I was unable to drive, as it would be unsafe. At least one more person also felt sick in this car. Obviously, when a vehicle makes a person sick, it is a safety issue. The driver cannot properly operate the vehicle. All convectional methods, such as ventilation and deep cleaning, did not improve the toxic fumes. I contacted Acura with no avail. They opened a case # 08920583. The case manager April stated that the number of people who may get sick from this material was very small and therefore Acura was not going to mitigate the problem. Acura is apparently aware that there are some people, who may become sick while driving their vehicles.

Power driver's seat randomly and without warning moves forward pushing me into the steering wheel making it impossible to drive until I can stop and reach the seat memory buttons to reset the seat or push the seat adjustment buttons. It has occurred infrequently when I enter the vehicle to drive. Ed martin Acura has failed to address this issue as I requested. The dealer is not responding to my assistance request to resolve this issue.

The brand new car was on fire by itself on October 30, 2012. It was after the hurricane sandy. My family woke up because of smelling gas from downstairs which was the attached garage to the kitchen. When my husband opened the kitchen door to the garage, he couldn't see anything but smokes. We called 911 and found out there was fire inside of the car. The fire started internally and spread out to the garage. There was sign of water that got into the garage. However, when fire fighter opened the garage door, there was no water in the garage. The front of the car was fine. The driver's seat area and the navigator area was totally melted down. There was no power in our town since October 29, 2012. The car windows(side and the top) were open by itself. I do not understand how the car caused fire by itself. There were thousands of cars but I did not hear the flood caused the fire which was parked inside of the garage. The car was brand new and had a temperate plate. There is no smoker in my family.

My new 2013 Rdx caught on fire at my garage in the day after hurricane sandy. Acura and auto insurance company(progressive) insists that the car caught on fire by flooding. However, car battery and engine are fine. Only front seat, dashboard, and navigation system were burned and the fire damaged my garage too. Furthermore it does not make sense that flooding caused fire at all. I showed my Rdx to Acura technicians, but silent. Isn't it a defect of new model?.

I just walked away from buying a 2010 or 11 Acura Rdx, and may do the same w/ other new cars. In this new model, my neck was pushed forward so far, that I got a terrible headache and neck pain w/in a 20 min test of this car. If they are all like this, I'll keep my old car. There really should be adjustments depending on size and height. Too bad, I really like the auto. Some things are just going over the top.
