This is a continuation complaint with national cemter for dispute settlement to fix safty issues and discontinued parts. The car is not 40 years old and I cannot find a maintenance repair book. The power door locks are coming on and off and the fob key do not work sutton acuta in macon said it needs the antenna but the antenna is discontinued. The navigation system doesn't work because the 6 chamger dvd in the trunk is not working with no electrical tech support from on star. Abs vsa trachion control is on for motr tan 3 years but the vsa switch is discontinued part. The srs light was turn off at the nally Acura in marietta but they came back on and been on for 3 or 5 years. The car is not safe for driving after spending 10000 dollars to repair the same issue. This is my frustration with safty and no support.

Small electric fire in driver side door panel melted all the way through outside door handle . After this happened to me I looked through forums and this seems to be a common issue with this car and there has been no recall for this issue . Very unsafe.
Rack and pinion replacement. Exterior issues: rear bumper felled off; gasoline cover won't closed; door handles falling off; fuel pump needs replacement.
The front passenger door handle started smoking and burning on my vehicle. It melted part of the door handle and left most of the electrical equipment inoperative including the inability to start the car. The vehicle was parked/stationary & off at the time of occurrence.

Front passenger door lock actuator was replaced less than two years ago. The exact same problem with the same door lock has reoccurred. The locked door will not open when the door handle is touched nor will the driver side door lock control lock or unlock the front passenger door. While driving the actuator is constantly trying to lock the doors but it doesn't work. I have seen other similar problems with this vehicle during my on-line research. I contacted the Acura dealer that repaired and replaced the original actuator but was told that the part warranty is 1 year.

Contact owns a 1996 Acura Rl. While driving 40 mph, a strong burning odor was noticed coming from the front of the vehicle. The instrument panel lights dimmed. The vehicle was towed to the contact's residence. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 179,000.

The ignition immobilizer defective. When the car is in park and I try to start it I put the key in the ignition and wait for the green light in the shape of a key to go out on the panel - then I turn the key. The ignition does not always recognize the key and so the immobilizer is activated. When that happens the car either starts and shuts right off or it just will not start at all. On more than one occasion I have been alone after dark and unable to start my car and leave. I have a type 1 diabetic grandchild that I watch and I am very fearful of not being able to get him what he needs because of this issue. I purchased 2 new keys and it is acting up even worse now. I googled the problem and saw that this is not an uncommon problem. I found another complaint on this site.

My headlights flicker a lot while driving at night. They go out sometimes one at a time, driver's side headlight or passenger side headlight. Sometimes they both go off and I am required to turn the headlights off and back on using the switch. This is very dangerous and the afs light comes on every so often. This needs to be fixed immediately. I read from several forums that a lot of Acura owners for years 2005 and 2006 experienced this same issue that I am going through. I need Acura to resolve this issue. Is there a recall for this? please have someone contact me ASAP!.

When trying to use keyless access system when locking the 2005 Acura Rl I press the button on the door handle to lock the doors but it is not locking the car. The remote is in my pocket. The keyless acess does let me unlock the door with the pull on the driver door handle. The problem is when trying to lock the vehicle with the driver door handle it will not lock the car. So now I have to just use the keyfob to lock the car with pressing the lock button on the remote. I have read and done all required to do what the manual says but it is still not working. I have just read a service bulletin saying that there is a problem with the door handles that weather like rain or moisture has gotten inside and damaged the door handle sensors.
While stopped in traffic, upon acceleration. Engine stalled. Vehicle placed in park and car was restarted and driven away. Main fuel relay was replaced. Per Acura service bulletin 01-044, the incident that occurred could be due to a failed powertrain control module. Per Acura service bulletin 01-044, there was an updated powertrain control module, but this part has since been discontinued and is no longer being produced by Acura. I have called Acura customer service who stated that even though they are aware of the circumstances per technical service bulletin 01-044, there is nothing they are able to do to repair the car. I feel that this is a safety related issue due to the risk that the vehicle has the potential to continue to stall and cannot be repaired.
Headlights intermittently flicker and shut off, seemingly regardless of vehicle speed or driving conditions. At times, the right passenger side light shuts off. Less frequently, the left driver side or both lights shut off. Also, of late, the active front lighting indicator ("afs") turns on, seemingly at random, and whether or not afs is on or off.
While driving, or stationery, driver headlight flickers and shuts off, followed by the passenger light. The only way to regain headlight function, lights must be turned off and back on constantly.
I was driving at about 30 mph on rufe snow in north richland hill, TX about 2:00pm, when my engine suddenly stopped. All electrical was shut down. Traffic was approaching me from behind and I was afraid of being hit from behind. I was unable to open my doors, lower windows or even put the emergency flashers on. I was trapped. I called 911 and reported my situation. However, just before the police arrived, a man walked over to my vehicle and tried to open the door from the outside without success. I pulled the hood switch and he was able to move the wire on the battery which was loose and the electronic and all began to function. I called Acura corp. And the macchurhill dealership and asked if there was a manual method of escaping such a situation. They could not give that suggestion.
The dvd navigation system in the Rl is burning out the dvd disk and causing the navigation to stop working. The gps locator on the screen had my vehicle nowhere near the actual location. The navigation voice would give command to make a turn where no road existed. I have come to find out that the failure of the dvd drive in the car is a more common event as I read the Acura forums. . (10/18/12 approximately) the alarm system went off randomly and the remote fob failed to operate. The electrical system was cycling on and off and the dashboard display would remain lit. It was a stormy night when this happened so I thought it was just the alarm sensor being over sensitive. The following day the vehicle returned to normal. On 1/29/13 the vehicle alarm activated again randomly and was able to be reset with the keyless fob. On the morning of 1/30/13 the vehicle fob failed to lock or unlock the vehicle. The dashboard display lights were on with no key in the ignition. The vehicle started and after a 20 minute drive and turning off the engine the dashboard light went off as the should. On the evening of 1/30/13 the vehicle keyless entry operated correctly having not functioned earlier in the day. Later on that same evening (1/30/13) the alarm activated. It could not be reset by the keyless fob and the key needed to be used in the door to unlock the vehicle which deactivated the alarm. The vehicle was re-locked with the key and approximately 30 minutes later I went out and the headlights were on and the alarm was not sounding. The headlights were not flashing but remained on continuously. I turned the headlight control from 'auto' to 'off and the light turn off but the dashboard lights remained lit. I attempted to start the vehicle and got no response. Upon inspection of the fuse box in the driver well I found water in the fuse box and a drip coming from saturated insulation above. Pressing on the insulation result in a flow of water. A similar situation documented in the Acura service bulletin 98-028 may bed a similar problem now occurring in the 2004 model. Electrical failures could cause the vehicle systems to shut down or malfunction during operation resulting in serious if not fatal injuries.
Three of the four door locks on the vehicle do not function electronically and must be manually actuated.

I have had some issues with my 2006 Rl. I have gone out to start the engine and numerous times especially during cold weather it will not start and I have had to jump it. I have taken this to 2 different Acura dealerships and have had the battery replaced 3 times. It has done it about 12 times during the time of November 2012- march2013. I feel that this is an ongoing issue and it needs to be addressed. I some out to either go to work or leave work and will have to jump start the car. Also my other complaint is with the air conditioning unit. I have the 06 Rl and my father in law has a 05 Rl and during the middle of the summer of 2012 both air conditioning units went bad at the same time and I am wondering what the issue is with that.
My accura Rl 2005 lights flicker on and off and then shut right off while driving at night. This is extremely dangerous! it not only impairs my driving but distracts drivers in front of me thinking im flashing lights at them and taking thier eyes off the road ahead of them. The lights are also pointed at the ground. Cant see at night very far infront of the vehicle. Acura says it would be around $1200 to fix each headlight, thats $2400 to fix a safety issue! that is ridiculous! read the internet, this is an ongoing problem with all of these Acura Rls.
Headlight flicker on / off. Sometime completly shutoff, but will tunr back on after turn off and on the head light. This issue is repeatable for over a few weeks.
We have a 2005 Acura Rl. During driving, the entire power drops. Without electricity to all components, the power steering goes, the engine stops, all lights on the dahs board off. After a few seconds to a minute, the power comes back. But the car will be showing all kinds of error messages. The the transmission will be at a wrong gear. Acura dealer service can reproduce the problem but for over one month, they cannot fix it because they do not know what is wrong. The driver at he dealership who experienced the problem was so scared and the dealer told us the car is extremely dangerous to drive.
Headlights have been flickering here and there, getting worse and worse. Now the drivers side headlight goes out and comes back on occasionally.
Car stalls at low speeds.
2005 Acura Rl active front headlighting I first complained about the problem to my dealer, and nothing was done. During driving at night the drivers head light flickers and goes off completely I live in tennessee so I drive on mountain roads alot, to get the light back on to work properly I have to actually stop in the middle of the road, or pull over safely and turn off the headlights then back on again, this happens when going around curves, as well as over rough pavement I have researched online and this is a problem that occurs with this system and there has not been a positive fix as of yet please advise.
1) filling gas tank - repeat shut off at filling station immediately following incidence at filling station the nest day the following occurred to my vehicle: 2) remote keyless entry failure 3) navigation system failure 4) no heat or air conditioning $ 700 charge at dealer for them to replace: passenger side outer door handle for traced short to handle causing blown fuse which was (above listed ) resolved problems 2-4. $ 1700+ charge at dealer for them to replace fuel tank - problem unknown. Could there be a condition similar to mustang fuel tank problem in 2005,2006 & 2007 models? condition may be due to the fuel tank vapor venting system inside the fuel tank, a heat-induced fuel vapor lock, or other gasoline fuel fill interruption situations.
There is an intermittent safety issue with the active headlights on the Acura Rl vehicle. Occasionally, the headlights will shut themselves off during operation at night. Sometimes it's just one and sometimes it's both. This is an issue that has been brought to the dealers attention. They cannot find anything wrong so they just suggest changing out all of the active components at the owners expense. I do not feel this should be paid for by the owner as this is a long running vehicle safety issue which should be cleared up by the Honda corporation.
On 4 occasions since buying car in 2006 reported that intermittently car lurched forward when lifting foot off brake. Dealership found no defects on 4 separate checks. Aug 13had this sudden acceleration' occur in heavy traffic. Totalled car, damaged 4 others.
My headlight on my Acura Rl are intermittent and going out every so often, more often then not. The problem just started to happen. It happens all the time off and on. The problem is with the light ballast and it will run you from $500 to $1200 to repair.
The drivers door will not open with the door handle from the inside or outside, the drivers window will not go down , you are lock in from the drivers side.

Switch would fail to engage after starting. I had to hold the switch between start and on in order to maintain engine running. Drove 70 miles like that until I reached home. It did it once before two years ago, but after spraying with cleaner it stopped.

Constant repair and replacement of brake rotors. The rotors have to be resurfaced every 8 to 10,000 miles and then replaced. I have my car serviced regularly with the same garage and can't understand why these rotors continue to wear. I have a 1993 Nissan max that has never needed rotor repair. Also, the srs and side airbag lights come on, I take it to the dealer and they clear the lights saying nothing is wrong. How are you to know if this is a serious issue when all they do is clear the lights???.
