1 Steering Column problem of the 2004 Acura RL

Failure Date: 01/13/2017

Failure of power steering tilt/reach. Power steering tilt/reach stopped working. The gears Acura have used are plastic and fragile. Acura does not sell the gears, they want people to buy new steering column. One person can get steering positioned at comfortable place but then if a person of different size has to drive he/she gets tired that can lead to accident and fatality. Searching web shows that problem is common in Acura Rls. Acura should fix this issue ASAP.

2 Steering Column problem of the 2002 Acura RL

Failure Date: 05/02/2015

The adjustable steering column quit working in a position that isn't good for me to drive, you can't buy a part to fix this you have to replace the steering column. This is a $2,500. 00 repair. It is not safe to drive in the position it quit working for me. I feel Acura should fix this or replace it with a column that can be repaired instead of replacing the whole column. This could be a serious safety issue. The vehicle was stationary when I tried to adjust it.

4 Steering Column problem of the 2002 Acura RL

Failure Date: 05/22/2014

I have purchased this vehicle and upon examination noticed that there is a common problem with the teloscoping mechanism in the steering column. I did a search of this problem online and found that this is a fairly common issues with these vehicles and may be well known by the manufacture as they do not sell the individual piece to fix this issue but instead sell the whole column as a unit which is $2500. The problem exist because they managed to merge plastic and metal together to create a screw-drive motor in the steering column.

5 Steering Column problem of the 2005 Acura RL

Failure Date: 10/23/2006

When backing car out from parking stall, after turning wheel beyond other car and ready to go forward, I stop completely with foot on brake . As I begin turning steering wheel in the other direction a loud scraping noise comes from area of the steering column. It an be heard for at least 100 feet. This does not happen every time, but sometimes 4 or 5 times during a week. We have been working with the dealer for more than a year . The car is 2005 Acura 3. 5 Rl on oct 13th with the service manager and a dealer representative in the car they were finally able to hear the noise that we had described to them. They have not been able to correct the problem. On oct 20th I heard the noise 2 more times. I am worried that something is happening in the steering mechanism that could result in serious damage and/or injury. In September I noticed oil leaking. After 1/2 hour I drove car to dealer and there was no power steering. I learned later that the high pressure hose was only "finger tight" when the car was made.
