I have a 2005 Acura Tl and yesterday I noticed a crack in the dashboard on the passenger side. I googled it and discovered several people having the same issue. Someone posted a link to this site so here I am. Can we get this recalled please? it's not very attractive. For the price I paid for this car I shouldn't have to worry about this happening.
Cracks appear on dashboard above driver side and passenger side airbag. Acura client relations claims this is a cosmetic issue. I have researched this as an on-going issue since 2009. I believe this is a defective part on the vehicle. Quote to fix this "blemish" is over 2k. Acura will only pay 50% I must pay the other $1000. I believe Acura should have this replaced. Airbag light turns on and off. Hoping this has nothing to do with the crack in the dashboard. Something needs to be done.
Cpsc#1280657a. 2003 Acura Tl. Consumer stated that the passenger side airbag was leaking a sticky substance around the perimeter of the housing.
There are two very large cracks on the passenger side dashboard that seemingly appeared overnight. Specifically, the cracks that run through the area where the passenger airbag is located.
First, I noticed the light indicating the front passenger airbag was off, even though my adult male friend was in the front passenger seat. Later that day, I noticed a crack, approximately 2 inches long. Two days later, the crack was approximately 6 inches long, and ran along the entire right edge of the passenger airbag compartment. Since the first time I noticed the airbag light, it has been inconsistently responding to the same adult male passenger by activating/deactivating the airbag.
The vehicle is a 2004 Acura Tl. It is mainly garaged kept and well maintained. It has developed a large crack in the dashboard running from the windshield towards the passenger seat. It appeared one day for no apparent reason. The car has not been in any accident. There is an extended warranty on the car but they won't cover this. In my opinion, this is due to inferior materials and/or design and should be repaired by the manufacturer. What happens if there is an accident and the air bag deploys. . . Will the cracked dash prevent the air bag from deploying properly? or will there be pieces of the dashboard acting as little missiles posing a threat to the occupants?.
Dashboard cracks -noticed small crack in my 2005 Tl dashboard over the passenger airbag in may 2012. Overnight it grew from front to back. My car is garaged. Contacted my service advisor by phone and he stated it was cosmetic and due to high heat and high mileage. I stated car was garaged and I owned other cars that were as old and never experience this. He told me cost was $1850 to replace. He said he'd send the complaint to corporate and get back to me. He came back to me and said Acura would pay 75% of cost since I was a good customer. I said that was not acceptable and I would like to talk to regional manager. He said he'd take the request further. In the meantime I noticed another crack. A week later I got a call stating Acura would pay 85% and I'd pay $247 plus tax. I was concerned that the airbag could malfunction and not deploy when in an accident or deploy for no reason. I decided to pay the $247. Dealer stated he would give me a loaner car. Before I brought the car in for repair I noticed two more cracks. My concern is safety for me and my passengers and I did not feel safe with dashboard cracks. This was a design flaw or material defect and Acura should recall to satisfy customers. Too many others with same problem and this is a luxury car. Acura knows it's an issue otherwise they wouldn't have agreed to pay $85%.
I have a 2004 Acura Tl dash that has very large cracks over the passenger airbag and is cracked in 3 more places over the drivers steering column. This seems to be a very common problem that many 2004 Acura owners are facing. Acura customer relations says to see the dealer for a resolution and from what I'm reading online it seems that the dealer wants no part in fixing or warantying this part. I will investigate this issue and report back to Acura to see if they will cover this 2000 dollar part that should be recalled on that model year. Acura should do something about this. Accepting responsiobility for this known issue would be a good place to start.
I was driving at approx. 45 mph when I felt my car die, all my gauges went down and I lost power steering. Luckily I was close to an intersection and pulled to the side of the road. I put the car in park and it started again. Then on the way home, it did the same thing in the middle of a busy road. The car died and I pulled over and tried to start it several times. . There is a defect in the magna donnelly rear view mirrors in most Acura cars. I had a 2001 cl and the rear view mirror exploded and melted the console. Thank god I was not in the car at the time. Now I have just bought a 2004 Acura Tl and the mirror had already exploded and made melt marks on the console. These mirrors are defective and dangerous. How come Acura can still put them in their cars? how come magna donnelly is still making them and noone has sued them? we need a class action suit for this ASAP!.
The d5 on the transmission started blinking, the the engine light came on along with tcs light. The shift from lower to higher speeds was bit jerky or slow. I took the car to the dealer for check-up. On diagnostics, he game me the codes p1739 and p1750. The recommendation was to replace the transmission - cost 4200$. This problem was highlighted in a 2002 memo from Acura , however, in my case, the problem shows up at this mileage and I am not covered. I spoke with aamco which apparently Acura does not endorse and they said that torque failure is common on Honda transmissions.
I recently discovered a huge gash on my 04 Acura Tl's dashboard. I am worried that this crack will cause an airbag failure or even result in deploying prematurely. It is located all the way from the steering wheel to the windshield with an additional crack towards the middle. As the crack has expanded within the past week, I have found that just above the center console, the airbag has been pushed to the side, causing the airbag to bubble up in the center. I called Acura and was told that they give discounts on the product because it should never happen and because it wasn't my fault, just a faulty product that has been discovered in several other states. I talked to the district manager of gunn Acura in sa,TX about the issue and was told that since I haven't used Acura's service department as much as they like (pretty much saying that I haven't given them enough money), they would give me only a 15% discount when I was told to expect around 75%. My car is out of warranty but I don't see how that would matter if it was bound to happen anyway. I don't understand why this defect isn't a recall. The district manager told me that if anything, the airbag would come out faster if needed since there is already a crack to open it up. But that might not be a good thing, especially when it is pushed out of the way and how the airbag doesn't come out of the dashboard. When I spoke to the district manager, the first thing I was told was that the offer is staying the same, no matter what. He checked his notes and decided a price before even consulting me or asking questions. He was set on a rate before he even spoke with me. The price hasn't changed and I am expected to pay for a $2000 dashboard with a 15% discount. My main concern is that the airbag will deploy any day now for no reason. It is getting to the point where I am actually scared to drive my car because of this issue.
I have cracks all over my dashboard. Acura does not seem to care about the issue. There are many many Acura Tl owners out there having the same issue with the crack dash boad.
I purchased my 2004 Acura Tl in October of 2008. Recently, I've noticed the dashboard cracking. After bringing it to the attention of the dealership, they told me it was not covered under my warranty. As I search for information online, it seems to be a common problem with other 2004 models. I have asked if the air bags are safe and the person at the dealership gave me a chuckle and said ". . . Of course".
My cloth floor mats that are standard in my vehicle are not functioning correctly and they have become torn where they lock into the floor. Now the floor mats move around and are very unsafe. This has happened to numerous Acura owners.
This vehicle was bought brand new in September 2006, in the past two weeks the dashboard has started cracking open where the passenger side airbag would deploy. The cracks have been getting progressively worse and the dealership is saying I may or may not receive assistance for the repairs which cost approximately $2,400. This is completely unacceptable for a 5 year old vehicle and they seem to want to blame it on the hot florida temperatures even though I have owned approximately 7 other Honda/Acura products in florida and never had this issue before.
Transmission does not shift smoothly anymore. It seems that 2nd gear is gone. The check engine light comes on too. It has the rpm go high before shifting.
12-15" cracks have developed over the entire dashboard causing the air bag malfunction light on the dash to illuminate--thereby indicating a problem with the air bag. This is clearly due to the problematic cracks over the entire surface of the dashboard, including both the driver side and passenger side. Going over a pot hole or severe bump could cause the air bag to inflate and possibly cause an accident or injury to the front passenger. The 2004 Acura dashboard obviously is defective and should be replaced by Acura and further, investigated for potential accidental discharge of the passenger air bag.
My 2004 Acura Tl had developed a major crack on passenger side of dashboard along the passenger air bag. I have found that this is a common problem on Acura Tl's, and is not being addressed as a recall or safety concern by Acura/Honda. The cost of repair is huge and I don't think customer should pay for the material defect by the manufacturer. The crack is right along the passenger air bag and this is a safety concern for me.
Dash pad cracking around passenger side air bag.
I own a 2005 Acura Tl and noticed a small crack in my dashboard about eight months ago. I took it to the dealership because my airbag light was on and they told me it was just a cosmetic defect and there was nothing they could do about it. Now over the past month there are cracks everywhere and Acura still won't help because it's not under warranty. I am very concerned because I'm not sure if my airbags will work if needed and I'm also concerned that they could possibly deploy while I'm driving. This is a safety issue because I'm not protected from an accident and this defect could also cause an accident, causing serious harm to me and my family.
Cracked dashboard near passenger side airbag on a 2004 Acura Tl.
I recently noticed a small crack on my dash that within two days time spread to be approximately the width of my dash. The scary thing is the first crack appears to be the outine of my passenger seat airbag. I'm scared if it continues to get worse, the airbag my deploy unexpected if I have to slam on brakes for any reason. Now I have cracks all of the front of my driver side dash as well. They appear to continually get worse. I use a sun shade and have been applying a lot of interior car care conditioner but none of it has delayed the cracks at all. I am really scared this may cause an issue with my air bag.
Why all Acura Tl 2005 , dashboards are cracking . My 2005 Acura Tl dashboard is cracking every day and I've seen plenty of Acura Tl with the same problem . So my question is why is there no recall on these car , why should I have to pay to replace this dashboard . Can someone tell me what to do ???.
The dashboard in my 2005 Acura Tl has suddenly begun developing bad cracks. The most concerning crack is on the passenger side leading from the front window toward the passenger compartment. The crack is forming around the outline of the passenger airbag. I am concerned this is a safety issue. Will the airbag deploy properly when needed or will it deploy prematurely? the cracks are unsightly and seem unlikely with the age of the vehicle. But the most significant concern is the safety of the crack around the airbag on the passenger side.
Dashboard cracking severely around airbag sites. Worried that this could be a dangerous safety hazard to my passengers and or myself.
After approx. 104,000 miles my dashboard started to crack around the passenger side airbag. The crack is currently following the outlines of the airbag and as such is shaped like a backward "c", creating an outline around the airbag. It also appears that perhaps the airbag itself has dropped away from the dash as I can see what seems to be a modest depression in the dash revealing the area of the airbag.
Dash board cracked.
My dash board started to crash all over a few months ago. I'm using a shade, and use protection often and the problem is getting worst. I think that the dash board was poorly made. I'm very upset because I spend alot of money on this car.
Dashboard is several cracked in about 9 different places. Car is garage kept and Acura has offered a goodwill offer which is minimal in the cost to have the dashboard replaced. This leads to safety concerns with the passanger airbags.
Dashboard cracked overnight where the passenger airbag releases. In the sun it seems to close up. When the car is cooled, the crack opens up.
2006 hands free link stopped working after less than 5 years. To replace the part, Acura charges approximately $650+tax. I have heard that the dealer will replace the part for $700. . . . Parts and labor. The laboe involved in minimal. Also, to diagnose the problem, the dealer want $110. There are many others out there who have a similar problem, as I researched this issue via the internet. Acura should provide a recall or replacement of this part an no cost.
I have a 2005 Acura Tl, and the dash has cracked in multiple places, including areas around the airbag. This concerns me for my safety and I know this is a well known issue with no solution as of yet. I dont see how there hasnt been a recall on a part that is known to be defective and also very dangerous if the airbags ever deployed. . .
2004 Acura Tl dashboard has horrible cracks on the passenger side around the airbags. There are smaller cracks around the speedometer panel near the windshield. The large passenger side cracks could cause the airbag to not properly deploy. This is not an isolated issue. Over three hundred Acura Tl owners have joined a facebook group regarding this issue but the number of effected owners is probably in the thousands. . Read more...
The dash came with a crack on the dash on the passenger side and in front of the center speaker. I have seen this happened to other Tl's where the dash starts cracking from 5 to 6 year of manufacture. The material used in the making is not resistant due to its design.

2004 Acura Tl defective dash - it was noticed dashboard cracks especially one developed where the passenger air bag is supposed to deploy. It is requested to consider this as a safety hazard, because it can affect the deployment of this safety equipment in case of an accident. Vehicle is parked most of the time inside a garage, so it cannot be explained why the cracks occurred.
I own a 2005 Acura Tl , which I happen to pay large amounts of money for this "luxury" car. Literally over night my cars front dash board had cracked. Its now has two large cracks on the front dash that are not surface cracks they actually are complete cracks through the dash from the very front, windshield, all the way to the other side, wood grain . One crack that happen to be very close to being on top of the front passenger side airbag. I have not been involved in any automobile accidents within a year, and the one I was involved in over a year ago was a minor fender bender. I have done research and thousands of Acura Tl owners have the same complaints and occurences that only have gotten worse resulting in several several more cracks to appear within a couple days to a month which concerns me. I am in fear these cracks and possible future cracks could result in my airbag sensors abilities to function correctly, which could lead to spontaneous release of them,.
The new vehicle headrest restraints are awful and most people, including car sales manaagers are turning their headrests around offering no support. While this may solve your insurance payout issue (bc turned around headrests negate payouts), it will not improve crash outcomes, which really should be your goal but is obviously not.
The dash suddenly had a crack in center area. The car has only 4 years.
Several large cracks have appeared across the dashboard. It appears to be a huge complaint among Acura owners. The largest crack runs over the passenger airbag raising the question of airbag integrity and function. Such a widespread problem should be considered a munufacturer's defect and therefore be recalled and repaired by Acura.
1999 Acura 3. 2 consumer writes regarding safety issues with vehicle the consumer doesn't own the vehicle. The vehicle is for sale at a used car lot. The consumer stated the vehicle has several safety violations.
Several cracks in my dashon the drivers side and passenger side. I am concerned about my air bags ejecting prematurely and causing an injury to me or my passenger.
I own a Acura Tl 2005 which I bought in Nov 2009 and last summer my cars dashboard developed multiple cracks. Now I am afraid if this will have effect on my airbags, I am noticing my cars audio already making some buzzing noise after the cracks. Please take necessary action on Acura and make them replace these dashboards, this being a luxury model they should atleast not put in cheap material.
Purchased a 2005 Acura Tl in 2008 from an acuar dealership. One year later the dashboard is cracking on the driver's side and on the passenger side near around the air bag. The crakcs started about about 3 inches long and are now a week later about a 12 inches long.
2004 Acura Tl severely cracked dashboard on the passenger side. I have 2 vertical cracks on the passenger side of my 2004 Acura Tl. The cracks were not gradual they both happened suddenly overnight. I have not had any accidents or collisions that may have caused this defect and am realizing that the problem is quite common amongst 04 Acura Tl owners. From pictures on online forums the cracks appear to be identical in all cases.
Multiple cracks in dashboard. Started small in length on passenger side of dash but now have extened and taken over the entire dashboard area. Also, the airbag light, both main and passenger, turn on and off intermittently.
The dashboard started to crack about a year ago and has continued to do so. Vehicle is maintained on a regular basis. Dashboard is continually treated with protective lotions, stored in a garage and parked in shade. There are now 5 cracks in the dash and I have found multiple owners that have experienced the same issue. This is a luxury car that has been well taken care of. I would consider this to be a recall issue.
My dashboard has multiple cracks resulting from no damage whatsoever. I have researched online and many other owners of Acura Tl models are seeing the same issue. I am concerned this will affect the airbag deployment system.
Cracked dashboard on Acura Tl 2005. The whole panel is cracking, I believe it may deploy the airbag system causing an injury or an accident.
Engine noise: a vibration and low buzzing sound in 5th gear caused by normal engine vibration at around 1,500 rpm, requiring a vibration damper near the rear motor mount. Also causing vibration on steering wheel at normal highways speed limits. And causing tires to cup and get bald. Very dangerous to drive on freeway causing steering to be very erratic due to vibration from front and rear broken engine mounts. Check-engine light: the check engine light may illuminate and a trouble code for the coolant sensor may be stored, but the problem is most likely a software glitch in the engine control module brakes: brake pedal may feel spongy or have excessive travel due to air in the brake lines requiring replacement of the vsa modulator. (2004-06) total repair cost so far. . . Item name repair cost a/c compressor $1,320 alternator $780 automatic transmission or transaxle $3,460 brakes $1,320 exhaust system $890 radiator $920 shocks and/or struts $3,200 timing chain or belt $1,050.
My wife went out to use our 2002 Acura Tl today after it sitting for a few days. The car is parked under a carport either at our home or office. She discovered that there was some kind of unremovable hardened liquid leakage around the shift lever that had ate away at the plastic parts around the shift lever and caused spotting on the leather. The rear view mirror didn't seem to have anything dripping at the time I looked but I could see there was an oval in the center of the mirror that when you pressed it, you could see there was liquid inside. I found a website searching for "Acura rear view mirror leaking" and now see this is a somewhat common problem. I also notice that apparently: 1. The mirror manufacturer (not Acura) will replace the mirror without charge but not including the labor 2. Acura seems to want to avoid any responsibility for this which I feel is wrong! 3. The damage to the car is permanent unless the plastic pieces are replaced and the leather is either cleaned or replaced. The plastic seems to be eaten away like the liquid was a solvent. The spots on the leather are not able to be cleaned (I haven't tried myself yet) according to what I've read. 4. The liquid that leaked is obviously not good for your health and as one person noted, got sick and confirmed the hazardous chemicals in the liquid.
Dash board cracks on right side area of air bag.
The contact owns a 2004 Acura Tl. The contact stated that the recall notice was not received until seven months after the failure recurred. She was concerned of the length of time that it took to receive the notification in regards to the safety issue. The failure mileage and recall number were unavailable.
2006 Acura Tl no longer fit to be driven because of the manufacturer's defective heating and cooling system breeding toxic mold and the procedures done to the car trying to repair it. The consumer stated the dealer sprayed some chemicals in the vehicles to try and mask the problem.
Dashboard starts to crack in the area around the passenger side air bag. You can see the shape of the air bag underneath the dashboard once the cracks start. The cracks continue to appear all over the dashboard out of no where. This vehicle has had no chemicals on the dashboard to clean it. The vehicle has been kept in a garage for a time away from direct sunlight. It has even happened on my 2005 Acura Tl that I also own. So this seems to be a problem with the 2004 and 2005 Acura Tl's.
The paint on my black Tl-s has been continually deteriorating since a couple months after purchase. Every bird dropping, road grime, hard water mark on my car seems to eat through 3 coats of meguiar's wax and take off the paint. Friends have witnessed how well I take care of my cars (witness my 10 year old Mitsubishi with no such problems and it was not garaged!) and agree that the paint quality on my Acura is extremely poor. I have been reading of other customers with similar problems and I believe Acura should have to send out a service bulletin to repaint those cars exhibiting this peeling, flaking, cracking, etching problem. I use a car cover and immediately wash off anything that lands on my car. . . . Often the contaminant does not wash off (bonds to the paint?) or just takes the paint off with it! talked to three Acura dealers over the years and no one will take responsibility. It's disappointing for a company my family has done business with for 18 years (7 Honda products so far). Never saw this problem on any of the other Honda / Acura products either.
Paint clear coat cracking and coming off "b" pillar on doors.
Car pulling to left, then right right from the date of purchase to present - 2005 Acura Tl. Actions taken by dealership to correct the problem include: 3 wheel alignments. Multiple tire rotations, replacement of all tires, and road pressure balancing of all tires. Problem still exists - dealer unable to correct.
2002 Acura Tl rear view mirrors - the mirrors are designed to have this tinting effect. Not exactly sure of the science related to this tinting process, but my mirror is have tinted and have untinted and shades in between. This is a safety issue and these things should be recalled. I've glanced on-line and there is some liturature about these mirrors failing and if they leak they contain a dangerous chemical. 1. To my knowledge, no specific event led to this equiptment failure. 2. The mirror's tinting problem is constant. 3. The dealers will replace the mirror for a subtantial cost to its consumers.
Total cost is $2505. 00 and it has failed again. No safety defect listed. **dimsii ivoq entry posted after 12/12/02 cut over to artemis**762451.
Honda motors refuses to purchase the car back or the loan and will not work to equitable solution. They have closed the case and left me with no options. ****dimsii ivoq entry posted after 12-12-02 cut over to artemis****761437.
Vehicle experiencing intermittent problem with engine check light coming on. Vehicle been in dealer shop on three occasions, and problem still reoccurring. Check the engine light comes on intermittently but goes away after driving for a while.
Since the weather has become increasingly colder the paint in the front of my car has been spontaneously peeling and chipping. No safety defect.
Design of the instrument panel prevents consumer to see the instrutment panel while in the sun. Dealer/ manufacturer notified, and informed consumer that they do not see anything wrong, and nothing would be done at this time.
Customer states that she has changed her address and wants any safety defects to come to her new address*.
No summary.
The odometer and trip odometer on this model of the Acura is virtually impossible to read during daylight hours because of the nature of the display. There is a safety hazard to the extent that it is necessary to remove your eyes completely from the road and stick your face close to the odometer in order to read it. On a recent 2,000 mile trip, I wanted to check my trip odometer frequently. It was very difficult and dangerous to take try and read the display. Sooner or later, someone will be distracted enough to have or cause an accident. I contacted the Acura division of american Honda motor CO. But they state they have no intention of addressing the problem. The idiot who designed the instrument panel display obviously never drove the car in the daytime. While this is not likely to be a major safety problem in terms of possible fatalities, it is still a safety hazard. And, this level of poor design should not be tolerated.
Design of the dashboard display is extremely difficult to read in daylight causing driver to remove eyes for extended period of time in order to see accurately. Mjs.
Center cup holder design is poor. When braking quicker than usual, cups tip over and spill contents into the shift mechanism. Contacted Acura and was told that they will note it for the next major redesign. I almost got into deadly highway accidents because of this and most recently I ended driving into a curb and damaging my alluminum wheel (don't know if it is still safe to drive with it structure strength wise). Durrinng a maintenance visit, I found out that Acura changed the design for 2001 and never notifies its consumers. I told the dealer about my last incident who then proceeded and gave me the peice from the show room car which I then I adapted to my car. Acura should fess up to the problem. I was lucky not to have gotten into any accidents and only ended with alloy wheel damage (which I now have to pay to replace).
