1 Fuel Pump problem

Failure Date: 11/15/2011

Fuel pump failure while driving on highway. Luckily, was able to exit, but potentially dangerous. Similar experience to the many other complaints already filed. Same model from previous year recalled for the exact same problem, but Audi has not done so for 2004 which it should definitely do! our car has less than 60,000 miles, and this should not be happening! also had to replace coils before Audi eventually recalled, but they did not refund the full.

2 Fuel Pump problem

Failure Date: 09/17/2011

I was driving on the highway and the car suddenly lost power without warning, due to fuel pump failure. I have seen a lot of complains about this defect. I think Audi should take responsibility for this safety issue. The Audi should recall the car to prevent this from happening to other Audi owners, because it is very dangerous to loss power on the highway without any warning.

3 Fuel Pump problem

Failure Date: 02/19/2011

The contact owns a 2004 Audi A4. The contact was driving 50 mph when the vehicle exhibited a loud, abnormal noise and proceeded to stall. The vehicle was taken to a mechanic who stated that the fuel pump was defective and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was contacted who did not offer any assistance since the vehicle was not included in any recalls. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 118,000.

4 Fuel Pump problem

Failure Date: 12/25/2010

I was driving hwy speed limit while my Audi A4 3. 0 2004 stopped running all of a sudden and I had to push my car on the side to safe from hwy traffic. I tried to restate the engine but I couldn't start. I found out my fuel pump stop working bc it was shaking and lost the power and shuts off by itself. It's cranking strong but not getting any gas to start so while I was sitting by the hwy for 3 hours I researched and find out that it is fuel pump failure as 2003 Audi and it's shame that it's general problem in Audi's 2004 A4 and there is no recall for that problem. So I request to recall for this fuel pump.

5 Fuel Pump problem

Failure Date: 11/26/2010

The contact owns a 2004 Audi A4. While driving approximately 65 mph, the contact attempted to accelerate further but the vehicle would not respond. The vehicle was towed to an authorized dealer where the contact was informed that the fuel pump would need to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The VIN was not available. The failure and current mileage was 62,000.

6 Fuel Pump problem

Failure Date: 11/19/2010

In the middle of driving on freeway engine stopped working while in traffic had to make emergency maneuvers to avoid being hit by traffic traveling at freeway speeds. Got to side of road where car wouldn't start took to dealer which stated that a new fuel pump was required.

7 Fuel Pump problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2010

My Audi A4 2004 quattro 1. 8l car recently stopped working one random morning. The car would not turn on at all. I had the car towed to and Audi specialist who informed me that the fuel pump on my car was bad and that in his personal opinion I should research this problem and contact Audi corporate. Upon researching this problem I found that the 2003 model of my car had a recall out for its fuel pump. Upon further research I found numerous complaints on the internet of people with the 2004 model of this car having the same problems with the fuel pump. I contacted Audi corporate and explained my situation they told me that since the recall was only for the 2003 model and my car was out of waranty that they couldnt help me. They explained that the fuel pump was only recalled on the 2003 model because they used a different part for the 2004 model. Well it doesnt matter if they used a different part or not because the fuel pumps are still going wide spread among the 2004 model. Audi needs to take responsibility for the fact that the 2004 model is having the same fuel pump problems as the 2003 model and needs to be recalled as well. Audi told me that they would make a note of my complaint but thats all they could do. Im stuck in a situation where my car which I payed a lot of money for and have been saving for most of my life now does not work because of a faulty part which Audi will take no credit for.

8 Fuel Pump problem

Failure Date: 09/15/2010

Fuel pump failed in 2004 Audi A4 3. 0q. Had car flat bedded from about 30 miles from home. Cost over $500 to repair + flatbed fees. Car had 68,000 miles when it happened. Fortunately, I was right at a gas station when it happend, so I was able to pull off highway and out of traffic safely. I see many many stories about this porblem. Now, newly installed pump is barely 4 months old and making loud noises. I expect this one has gone bad or is about to. Car goes into shop in a few days to inspect this.

9 Fuel Pump problem

Failure Date: 05/07/2010

My wife was driving on the 405 freeway at 60mph when the engine stalled and she had to go across 4 lanes to get to the emergency shoulder with no power. Other cars had to brake hard to avoid her so she could move over. We had it towed to the Audi dealer and they said the fuel pump had to be replaced at a cost of $551. I did some research and found out there was a recall for fuel pumps on 2003 A4 and told them that my 2004 has the same problem. They disagree and said the 2004 models are fine and I have to pay for all repairs since the car is out of warranty. This is a real safety issue that they refuse to acknowledge even though it's identical to the problem of the 2003 models being recalled. They offer no apologies and I'm stuck with the repair bill.

10 Fuel Pump problem

Failure Date: 04/16/2010

-the contact owns a 2004 Audi A4 cabriolet. While the contact was driving approximately 40 mph the vehicle began to jerk and stalled in the middle of the road. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where the technician replaced the fuel pump at the owner expense. The failure and current mileages were 61,000.

11 Fuel Pump problem

Failure Date: 12/31/2009

2004 Audi A4. Engine started making noise. Took to dealer for service and fuel filter was replaced. Seemed to be fixed, two weeks later on new year's eve we were driving to a party when the car started making noise again and then stalled and all power was lost. Luckily we avoided getting in an accident. Had it towed to dealer who informed us it was a failed fuel pump. Apparently this has been a major issue with Audi A4s, and a recall was issued for 2003 fuel pumps. 2004 fuel pump obviously also has defects as I've seen numerous complaints and an investigation was opened previously.

12 Fuel Pump problem

Failure Date: 12/25/2009

2004 Audi A4 3. 0 l quattro production date oct 3, 2003. Premature failure of fuel pump while driving, no warning no sputtering. If it had happened at a busy intersection it would have caused a mva.

13 Fuel Pump problem

Failure Date: 12/16/2009

Driving along at 55mph, car lost all power. I drifted to the shoulder, luckily there was a wide shoulder. After an hour waiting for a two truck I opened the fuse box to see if I could see an issue. Found that the fuel pump fuse was blown. Replaced fuse, car started immediately. This has happened 2 more times. Despite being under warranty, dealer says they can't do anything to help me because the failure does not "throw a code". For now I do not drive the car with my family in it for fear of getting stuck, or worse, having an accident on the highway or in an intersection.

14 Fuel Pump problem

Failure Date: 10/24/2009

Lost all engine power during highway driving. Discovered blown fuel pump fuse. Replaced fuse, attempted to start, immediately blew the second fuse. Car towed to Audi dealer, who determined the cause to be a failed fuel pump. The failed unit had 1. 1 ohms resistance, instead of the specified 28 ohms. Installed new fuel pump.

15 Fuel Pump problem

Failure Date: 10/14/2009

My Audi A4 avant with the 3. 0 engine experienced a sudden fuel pump failure while in traffic. The event was not preceded with any change in performance as described in NHTSA investigation # pe08027. The pump failure event was similar to that described in the recall of the 2003 A4 vehicle. The fuel pump was changed at the dealership with no mention of fuel filter or other components having failed.

16 Fuel Pump problem

Failure Date: 09/19/2009

2004 A4 Audi fuel pump failure 1. No notification just failure. 2. The failure occurs quite often, most complaints were found on your web service. 3. Taken to the dealership to replace faulty fuel pump.

17 Fuel Pump problem

Failure Date: 08/21/2009

The contact owns a 2004 Audi A4. While driving 25 mph the vehicle stalled and shut down. The dealer replaced the engine coils; however, the vehicle shut down again while driving. The dealer stated that the fuel pump caused the failure when it recurred. The contact is concerned about the safety risk since the vehicle could shut off and cause a crash to occur. The current mileage was 35,000 and the failure mileage was 34,500.

18 Fuel Pump problem

Failure Date: 07/23/2009

Audi 2004 A4 fuel pump failed without warning. Wile driving at 55 mph the car stalled and had to be pushed to the side of the road. The fuel used was always 93 octane and tank replenished at 1/4 tank. There is a recall on the 2003 model I think this car should have been included in the campaign.

19 Fuel Pump problem

Failure Date: 06/30/2009

2004 Audi A4 1. 8t stalled in heavy city traffic with no warning. Vehicle has approx. 40,000 miles on it and has been regularly maintained by local dealer. Driver was left stranded in centre lane for almost thirty minutes until police and tow truck arrived. Local Audi dealer diagnosed problem as a failed fuel pump. This is the same fuel pump as the one recalled in the 03 Audi A4. Why hasn't the 2004 Audi A4 been recalled for this problem as online research indicates the problem is widespread?.

20 Fuel Pump problem

Failure Date: 06/20/2009

Audi A4 3. 0 while driving to the airport to pick up friends the car suddenly died. Only 68000 miles. Had to wait for a tow to a dealership. I was in another state. Friends had to rent a car and pick me up. Turned out to be a bad fuel pump and had to be replaced. Approximately two months earlier I had a bad fuel filter that had to be replaced. Only use 93 octane. Not good. Disappointed in what seems to be a regular occurrence.

21 Fuel Pump problem

Failure Date: 06/07/2009

2004 Audi A4 - fuel pump failure at 46,000 miles. Well-maintained vehicle (by dealer). The same model (2003) was recalled for fuel pump issues. Given the number of problems/complaints and associated safety issues, vw/Audi should recall the 2004 model as well.

22 Fuel Pump problem

Failure Date: 05/03/2009

The contact owns a 2004 Audi A4. The contact stated that the fuel pump was faulty and prevented fuel from entering the engine. As a result, the engine stalled while driving 35 mph and the vehicle could not be restarted. The vehicle was towed to the dealer and they stated that the fuel pump failed and needed to be replaced. The failure mileage was 33,885.

23 Fuel Pump problem

Failure Date: 04/30/2009

Fuel pump failure on 2004 Audi A4. Audi had a recall of 2003 model A4 and a6 vehicles for premature fuel pump failures. I experienced a similar problem with my 2004 Audi A4. While I caught this issue before a complete failure, this premature failure could result in significant safety issues.

24 Fuel Pump problem

Failure Date: 01/15/2009

A fuel pumped has failed in my 2004 Audi A4 quattro 3. 0l. There is a recall for the fuel pump in the previous model (2003). Within my research, I have concluded that several 2004 owners are having the same premature failure with the fuel pump (which happens to be the same fuel pump for the 2003 model, as well as the 2002 and 2001). I was quoted a price of 800 dollars at an Audi dealer recently. My car only has 60k on it, and should not be having fuel pump issues. I feel that the dealership should cover my charges, as well as all other 2004 A4 owners' charges for the fuel pump fix. It should be a recall, and I hope to find the reasoning to be a similar instance as the 2003 A4 fuel pump recall detailed by the NHTSA. Thank you.

25 Fuel Pump problem

Failure Date: 01/07/2009

The car was maintained well, as per manufacturers specs. Both the fuel pump and power steering pump failed at 4 yrs/approx 60,000 miles which is unacceptable by today's quality standards dealer investigated an existing fuel pump recall on the model but my VIN was "out of range". I believe the recall (06v017) incorrectly excluded some candidate vins.

26 Fuel Pump problem

Failure Date: 12/28/2008

2004 Audi A4 1. 8l fuel pump.

27 Fuel Pump problem

Failure Date: 08/24/2008

My car is the 2004 Audi A4 3. 0 quatro. The production date of my vehicle is 12/03. While driving at a speed of approx. 45 mph on a 4-lane highway going up a hill, I suddenly lost power. There was not any warning prior to the sputtering and loss of engine power. It felt as though the car had run out of gas. I was in the fast lane, and fortunately for me, there wasn't a car in the lane to my right, so I was able to coast to the emergency lane. Aaa responded and, after determining that adding fuel did not solve the problem, the car had to be towed. I towed the car via a flatbed, rented a car, and two days and $750 later, discovered that my problem was due to a faulty fuel pump and clogged fuel filter. The mileage on my Audi is only 38,000 miles. . . . Very low mileage for a fuel pump to go out. I discovered that the 2003 fuel pumps have been recalled, but Audi of America has denied my claim that my '04 car's fuel pump (which was also manufactured in '03) should be included in the recall.

28 Fuel Pump problem

Failure Date: 06/24/2008

Was driving home from work which is a 30 mile commute. Upon parking on my driveway, my car seemed to stall and immediately shut down which was awkward because the parking break was on and the car was on neutral, giving no reason for the car to stall. I tried to restart and the car ran but only for a few seconds then shut down. I towed it to the dealership the next day and they found the problem to be a faulty gas pump. Dealer replaced pump and car was back to normal. Seeing the amount of complaints with fuel pumps, I also agree that the 2004 model should be added to the list of recalls.

29 Fuel Pump problem

Failure Date: 06/14/2008

Fuel pump failed without warning on June 14, 2008 when I was 300 miles from home, visiting my father for father's day. My Audi only had approx 44,000 miles on it at the time. I have retained the faulty fuel pump, but was charged nearly $800. 00 for the repairs, including towing. I contacted Audi and they refuse to do anything because their recall only covers the 2003 model, and not the 2004. Audi really needs to protect their customers and offer reimbursement to those of us who have experienced this very dangerous failure. A fuel pump failure on the highway could easily lead to severe injury or even death. Audi cannot claim that they are not on notice of this problem, as I have reviewed several similar complaints for this vehicle.

30 Fuel Pump problem

Failure Date: 05/17/2008

The fuel pump on my 2004 Audi A4 1. 8t went out while trying to leave on a trip. The car stalled while attempting to get onto the freeway causing traffic to be blocked and I had to have the car towed to a repair shop where the fuel pump was replaced.

31 Fuel Pump problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2008

Fuel pump is humming and the car stalls. And it refuse to start for a couple of minutes.

32 Fuel Pump problem

Failure Date: 04/17/2008

I own a 2004 Audi A4 - 3. 0 quattro. I was driving on the 710 long beach freeway in CA following my daughter's school bus on a field trip to the long beach aquarium prepared to spend a day with her. Suddenly, the car started shaking and then I realized I didn't have any power. I was able to maneuver the car to the shoulder of the freeway, but the 710 fwy has a very narrow shoulder. It was a very scary experience as big rig trucks were passing me on the driver's side literally inches away. I thought I was going to get hit by them. I called roadside assistance and was able to get the vehicle on a flat bed and towed to mckenna Audi in norwalk, CA. The dealer diagnosed the problem to a defective fuel pump and clogged fuel filter. The consequences are that I had to pay $80 to have it towed to the dealership as my roadside assistance only covered 5 miles. Secondly, I had to pay $1,100 in parts and service to mckenna Audi to have the car repaired. I see that Audi had a recall for the 2003 A4 for bad fuel pumps. I think that they should also recall the 2004 model fuel pumps as well.

33 Fuel Pump problem

Failure Date: 02/19/2008

Vehicle breaks down in traffic (55 mph highway) ~100 mi from home due to failed fuel pump. No warning of impending failure. Very dangerous failure location. Total repair cost = $602. 13 including fuel pump replacement, tow, rental car, etc.

34 Fuel Pump problem

Failure Date: 01/19/2008

The contact owns a 2004 Audi A4 cabriolet. While driving approximately 50 mph, the vehicle hesitated and then shut off. The vehicle was restarted and taken to the dealer, who stated that the fuel pump needed to be replaced. The current mileage is 29,200 and failure mileage was 28,000. Updated 03-04-08 the vehicle hesitated at various speeds. After a while, it would just shut down. Updated.

35 Fuel Pump problem

Failure Date: 11/02/2007

Loud buzzing noise coming from rear seat, sounded like bad motor bearings. Approximately 2 minutes later the engine stalled and was forced to stop vehicle without any power assistance from engine. The Audi dealer found it was a faulty fuel pump, replaced with new fuel pump ok now. They indicated it was not covered in the 2003 fuel pump recall since my vehicle was an 04.
