This car is burning oil in a extremely danger speed.
Vehicle burns a quart of oil every 150 200 miles it's very common and several years many complaints on the internet.
Driving vehicle home and it started shaking got the car home and when I shut it off and turned it back on it rattled and sounded like metal I turned it off and then I turned it on again and this time it didn't turn on at all I had it checked by mechanic and he told me that those Audi and that year had an oil consumption problem and so he checked the engine with a diagonate machine and it said chances are there can b major engine problem it said the machine said the chain jump and could have cause piston and rod places sad car is in great shape and looks good and has low mileage now it needs a engine replacement.
In August 2015 with 66k miles my Audi experienced a turbo failure which, because of the oil consumption class action, was replaced by my local Audi dealer free of charge. They then performed the oil consumption procedures and while they cited redoing piston rings and some other seals, the oil light issue is still present. An important note here in regards to braman Audi who handled this service. . . When they did the complete block removal in order to handle the piston repairs, they did not replace the rear mail seal that is apparently known to fail around 75k miles, so there I was dropping another $1500 for a rms replacement of a $50 part because the Audi certified dealer didn't think to replace what's known to fail before reassembling the block. Here we are now about 2. 5 years later and with 94k miles, and my timing chain has failed inside the block and I'm being told my entire engine might be toast. How can you possibly claim an oil consumption issue that causes turbo and piston failure, and not cover the timing chain that runs the whole system? this is ludicrous, has cost me significant time and money while the car itself isn't worth but maybe $6k. Now I'm looking at a chain replacement at $2k or a whole new engine at $10k plus. Might as well put a sticker on the new Audis that says the car will have negative value after 65k miles. My car now won't run at all and has been at the mechanic for months waiting for someone to step up and take responsibility, manufacturer or dealer, either way they are both aware of major flaws in their manufacturing and do nothing about it. Sounds like consumer fraud to me.
Oil consumption is horrible I'm refilling a quart of oil every few hundred miles. I bought the car used and I did receive notice of a recall on the vehicle regarding the oil consumption issue.
At 70k car was consuming oil every 1k having to top off a liter of oil. Dealer adv this was normal because of turbo engine. Ignored the issue until got worst topping off every 750mi's then to every 200-300mi. Dealer checked & adv needed turbo assy replacement before they would check on the oil consumption issue. Cost to repair $3,925+ tax. Couldn't afford that so lived w/issue for a while. Doing research on internet I found this was a very common problem w/this car/year and there was a class action lawsuit & Audi had to pay to repair for this oil consumption issue for free but only if you put the claim in by a certain date. I didn't know of this so I complained to the Audi dealer but it was too late for my car to be honored. The dealer then would perform a oil consumption test for $300 with a few new seals and bolts. If after the test it still consumed oil rapidly they advised maybe Audi corp would honor the repairs or at least help cover a partial amount since I was a dedicated customer getting all my services done at Audi. After testing it failed & was diagnosed that I needed new pistons/turbo etc. To fix this. Basically sounded like a new engine. Went to Audi corp. & submitted the complaint & all showed all receipts of services done to the car to see if they would help honor the repair but end results they didn't do much & was advised by dealer it would cost me $7000 to fix. I ended up declining service from the Audi dealership & went to a local Audi mechanic shop to at least perform the turbo repair & that cost me near $5k. This is a lemon of a car & Audi knows it! there should of been a recall for this fix but instead let their customers suffer spending loads of money on repairs.
My car jump timing today. I first had and oil consumption issue with new piston and rings installed. And in 2015 and rear main seal went out. Now in 2016 the motor jump timing pulling out of the garage this morning. Great plastic timing chain tensions Audi refuse to ammit they a junk. Thanks Audi for a great quality car.
Tl- the contact owns a 2009 Audi A4. The contact stated that while parked, there were oil spills found beneath the vehicle and while driving at various speeds, the engine warning light illuminated. In addition, the contact mentioned smelling burning oil from the whole vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the rear main seal of the engine's crankshaft needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 51,000. Jo.
This car has been a nightmare . . After basically having the engine rebuilt due to an oil consumption lawsuit that had been an ongoing problem since 19,000 miles and just been bandaided up with excuses from the dealership, but now the vibrations are blamed on the motor mounts. Will the crap just ever end? or will I fix the mounts and we can point the finger at something else. It just seems like there is no end. . Personally this car should have been recalled with all the issues- something just didn't happen for them in 2009 apparently. The motor mounts should have never gone bad in this vehicle at this point being the high end car they claim to manufacture. . I would love my car if it ran correctly- and since 19,000 miles it hasn't - that is sad. I know what this company is capable of . . And this is just bs.
The contact owns a 2009 Audi A4. The contact stated that the oil warning light illuminated. The contact added oil to the engine and the oil warning light shut off. The failure recurred after approximately 250 miles. The vehicle was taken to a dealer for diagnostic testing. The mechanic stated that the vehicle was burning an excessive amount of oil and the rings and valves of the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 96,000.
This past fall, Audi replaced my pistons and rings due to a failed oil consumption test. My car would require oil after about 250 miles. Within a week of changing the oil at Audi I received a warning light. Audi at that time decided to replace my pistons and rings. On 12/29 while driving on the highway my car starting rattling very loud and I wasn't able to accelerate. All of a sudden my car stopped running, gray smoke came out of the rear tailpipe and my car turned off. I managed to get over to the shoulder and it looked as if oil has leaked all over the right tire by the passenger side. I had the car towed back to Audi for service. They are now telling me it will cost $5000 to fix the car. I feel the since they last worked on the engine they should be responsible for the damage to my car.
Since hitting 100k miles, burning unusually high amounts of oil. Every 700 miles have to add 1 qt?? mileage is now at 107k and not sure where oil is going.
I owned the 2009 Audi A4 quattor. My car has a serious oil consumption problem around 350 miles per qt. I did a lot of research online. Also, when I type Audi A4 2009, then I can find a lot of people are talking about the oil consumption problem. And I did research from my friends who own the A4 and ask about some information. I know many, many the same issues also in china, taiwan, german and USA. Therefore, I cannot understand why this car did not recall!!! or help us who owned the A4. I got some information from two different car shop. The data shows Audi A4 and s5 between 2009-2011 have a lot of issue about the oil consumption problem in the USA. I know the car is not recall, but is there any way can help the Audi owner to keep this car?.
I purchased my Audi 2009 A4 quattro in oct. 2012. After only one month I had to take it back to the dealer ship to fix. They spend over $2,000 in repairs trying to get the oil consumption down. I continued to have problems with it for the next two years. I have since spent over $6,000 to try and repair the oil consumption problem. Due to the financial situations I have still not been able to get the oil consumption problem resolved. On my last trip to the mechanic my oil consumption went from 300 miles per quart of oil to now only 100 miles per quart of oil. This is a known issue all over the united states and yet when I contact Audi they say it is normal wear and tear. Audi should be help accountable for selling faulty vehicles and avoiding a recall to try and save their name and their profits. I have many problems with the vehicle cutting out or not producing full power. At times it will seize or not start at all.
Engine burned excessive oil and was still under warranty. During the servicing in August 2013, was informed that this is normal oil consumption. About 2qts between servicing. I also informed that I occasionally smelled burning oil and advised the tech to look for leaks. Was told no problem found. After the warranty expired in 2013, took it for servicing in 08/01/2014 and dealer informs that cam seal is leaking and is a $1000 fix. This time I was told that I may smell burning oil!! my car at present has less than 22,000 miles! I have noticed the other people bring up the issue of excessive oil consumption and the service dept provides a bogus answer. I believe NHTSA should compel Audi to fix issues on defective designs regardless of mileage or warranty. It is highly unethical to charge customer for thousands for a known defect and that too right the year after the warranty has expired. I believe the dealership hid the cam leak to avoid the cost to Audi during the warranty period. I appreciate any help regarding this issue. Regards, sivasis.
The car burns 1 quart of oil every 200 miles. Its a well known issue with the 2009 A4 2. 0t millions of people are burning gallons of oil in these cars. Its a shame that Audi is sweeping this issue under the rug. These cars need recalled.
I have obtained this car as a used car. Engine oil was changed one week after I have the car at a mechanic shop. Three weeks (about 500miles driving) later, a low engine oil alarm sounded. I brought the car back to the same mechanic shop and add a quart of oil to the engine. A couple weeks later, I was driving the car to a road trip. The low oil alarm sounded again. This was in the middle of my road trip when I was driving in the highway (about 500miles since last oil addition) at about 75mph. I have to get off the high way right away and went to a local mechanic shop to top off the oil. I was told by a mechanic that this is dangerous because if I couldn?t find a mechanic shop in time to add more engine oil, the engine would have been overheated, locked, and forced to stop right away. Under this scenario, a serious collision with the cars behind or next to me might be caused if driving on the highway. Upon research, it was discovered that this abnormal amount of engine oil consumption has been a common problem/complaint in this model of car due to the defects in the piston rings. In most cases, the piston rings were replaced under the manufacturer warranty. My car is just out of warranty with 57k miles on it. The dealer should be responsible fixing this problem as it is a serious safety problem and it was defected from the manufacturer.
Used oil, 1 quart per 450 miles. It was determined that the piston rings needed to be replaced. It is leaking and burning oil car is 3. 5 years old 72k miles. I was told and from what I've read this is a common theme with this car.
After having my car for a year, it started to burn through oil at an increasing rate. Currently it is going through about 1 quart of oil every 1000 miles. I have taken the car in a few times to check for leaks or try to determine the location where it is going and have just been told that this model engine goes through at a faster pace and has been a common complaint amongst customers. In addition to this I have dealt with having to get the sunroof re-lubricated every few months, dealing with rattles in the doors, warping of the interior (dash, door panels, seat backs), and a one-time failure with the door latch not working during cold temperatures.
This Audi was a lemon from the start and botched repairs at the dealer have only made it worse. One the 2nd day we owned the car the oil light came on and we had to return it to the dealer for more oil. Over the next 2 years the car burned an excessive amount of oil starting at 1 qrt every 2500 miles and deteriorating to 1 qrt every 800 miles. All along the dealer told us this was "normal". In may 2011, dealer told us that Audi had initiated a testing program and if the car failed they would do something. In June 2011, the car failed test and the dealer kept the car for 3+ weeks conducting major engine surgery. 6000 miles later we took the car in for routine maintenance and they said they wanted to do routine warranty work. In the course of this work, they destroyed the timing chain and pistons of the car. 1 week later the transmission failed. In talking to Audi technicians at other dealers (off the record) they say that the oil problem is a design problem and that the fixes are simply bandaids. Appears that the 2012 model has been redesigned to fix the engine flaw. The net effect is that the car has visited the Audi dealer on at least a monthly basis since we bought it and has spend more than 8 weeks in major "warranty related" engine repairs. To top it off, Audi has complimented this "worst in class" product experience with a "worst in class" customer service experience as Audi America 1-800 people have been consistently either robotic or rude in talking with us about this issue. Most recently, they made a lame offer to reimburse us for towing expenses and extend the warranty on this dubious car for another 12 months. Amazingly, they refuse to pu t the offer in writing until after acceptance. Presumably so that they can avoid legal issues. Please help. I am sure I'm not the only one suffering this.
