Rearview System Braking problems of the 2020 Audi A4

Mmi system is restarting on a near constant basis, both while parked and driving. Aside from being inconvenient, as you can not use media/navigation/etc while it’s rebooting, it also causes many safety features like drive assist/collision/obstacle detection to malfunction and not work, and is therefore simply outright dangerous.

The mmi system crashes and reboots after about 90 seconds. This affects all parking and collision sensors.

I have started experiencing issues with the mmi (infotainment system) system rebooting every few minutes. It was very sporadic at first, but now it is at the point where I frequently don't have time to get into the system before it starts the reboot cycle again. When this happens, the screen will go blank for several seconds. Then a message will show for several seconds saying that the system is loading. The system will then try to guide me through several prompts to try to log back into the car's mmi system. Even if I choose "guest user" I am shown multiple prompts before I get into the system and can use the functions located in the mmi. This can and does happen while driving, while parked, and while backing up. This reboot sequence makes all of the safety features, including collision avoidance and the backup camera inaccessible during this time. Sometimes, the system reboots before I have time to even back out of my driveway. Frequently, I don't have time to sign in or work through the prompts to get to the working system before it starts rebooting again. This issue started in February, 2025, but it was infrequent then. Over the past month, the issue has been persistent with the system rebooting every 5 minutes or less. This is very distracting while trying to drive and takes the driver's attention away from driving. As stated before, it also makes the safety features of the vehicle inaccessible - such as collision avoidance and backup camera.

Over the last 2 weeks, the entire mmi system stops working, the screen goes black, and the system reboots. It happened once when I was backing out of a parking spot and the alerts stopped working. A second time when I was pulling into a spot and the screen went black as well. This is a major safety-related flaw!.

Mmi shuts down and reboots randomly without warning and multiply times a day. All the backup camera and safety warning features were disabled while mmi is off. Huge safety concerns!.

The mmi screen ( infotainment system on dash) frequently turns off while driving. The system requires several minutes to reboot each time. During the reboot process, the backup camera and safety sensors do not work. Additionally, many other features do not work during the reboot apple car play, phone, navigation, radio and garage door opener. The issue started in February 2025 and has persisted during each use of the car thereafter. The reboot will typically occur every few minutes while the car is on.

The infotainment/mmi system constantly reboots. This system is linked to the rear view camera, navigation, and hands free phone. When it reboots, those systems fail. This appears to be a widespread issue for the 2020+ Audis.

While driving. These reboots typically happen every 5–10 minutes and result in the temporary loss of safety-critical features like the backup camera, navigation system, and rear cross-traffic alert. The screen goes black, and the system restarts itself while the vehicle is in motion, which is both distracting and potentially dangerous. I brought the issue to my local Audi dealer, who attempted two separate software updates. Unfortunately, the problem continues. The service department reports no faults in the system diagnostics and has stated that they currently do not know how to fix the issue. This persistent malfunction affects key safety systems and creates significant concern when driving.

Audi mmi will shut off randomly, while in drive(accelerating or not), reverse, or idle, causing the camera and sensors to become inoperable, and the vehicle gives a warning saying “parking aid: malfunction! obstacles cannot be detected” only after the mmi system has rebooted. When this occurs while reversing, not only a car but a pedestrian may be passing behind me and I would not know. This issue also causes the car to randomly ask for a pin to log in to the mmi after rebooting randomly (there is no pin that exists for any users in my vehicle and even asks when I am on a guest user), creating further distractions while driving like when I may need to use navigation, especially when the system reboots repeatedly five to six times within a ten minute time frame. This issue has been recurrent from 3/13/2025 to present 7/13/2025.

The mmi spontaneously reboots numerous times while driving. Restoring functionality requires user input to get through the loading screens. The issue started in February 2025 and the vehicle has been inspected by the Audi dealership (on 3/10. 25), who verified the concern and attempted a factory reset (which did not solve the issue), and they continue to claim there's nothing they can do since their obd scans return no fault codes, even though there are numerous tsbs (filed with NHTSA) that point to available software updates that should be applied to address infotainment-related issues. . The multi media interface (mmi) in my 2020 Audi A4 spontaneously reboots while driving. This problem is intermittent but can happen numerous times during a single trip in the car, even trips of less than 10 miles. When the reboots happen, the screen goes black and key systems such as the backup camera, rear obstacle detection, and navigation become unavailable until the reboot completes and the systems reload. Restoring functionality requires user input to get through the loading screens. The issue started in 2024 and the Audi dealership was notified by me on 19 Apr 2024, but they could not replicate the issue and found no "fault codes". There are numerous tsbs (filed with NHTSA) that point to available software updates that should be applied to address infotainment-related issues. The problem continued and I asked the dealer to re-examine it on 27 Mar 2025, but they would not perform diagnostics unless I paid a significant labor charge (since the car is now out of warranty), so I declined. This appears to be a widespread issue based on the numerous reports found on online user forums, affecting the same model year vehicles. This should be considered an important safety issue, as the reboots can happen in the middle of a reverse parking maneuver, and they render the backup camera and obstacle detection sensors completely inoperative until the system reloads. They also impact safety on the highway, as the reboots completely disable the navigation screens and require multiple user input to restore while driving.
