36 Electrical System problem of the 2019 Audi A5

Failure Date: 01/21/2025

I drive an 2019 Audi A5 and there is a terrible auto start/stop malfunction and cruise control malfunction that has made this car unsafe to drive. The auto start is featured on the A5 to "save gas," but however malfunctions and cuts off while driving or coming to a stop. Tonight on 1/21/2025 at 1:44 am it did just that. While sitting at the light it stalled out, manually crank it up attempt to get thru the light and it cuts off leaving my son and I stranded dead center of the intersection leaving the two of us sitting ducks. I look and there is traffic coming and we were nearly taken out by an oncoming vehicle after my 5th attempt to start up the car before finally pulling off. Prior I was alone in traffic where the auto stop again malfunctioned, cut off, and caused me to roll backwards almost hitting a vehicle behind me. The cruise control also malfunctions at random. This vehicle has become not only a high risk but a danger to operate on any highway at this point and I've only had it 2 years. It is an extremely beautiful car, but is not worth my life, my son's, or anyone else sitting in the car.

37 Electrical System problem of the 2020 Audi A5

Failure Date: 01/15/2025

The software that supports the radio and other functions keeps rebooting while driving. This I could happen three times in 15 minutes. I have been on highway and it shuts off which has made me swerve and almost get in an accidents. Dealer has charge me $350 and did not fix issue. They are talking with corporate but no one seems to care. Started in January or February of 2025.

Everytime I am driving around my mmi system keeps rebooting. It disconnects my navigation and back up camera and it takes 10-30 seconds to restart. It does this about once every 2 minutes.

39 Electrical System problem of the 2020 Audi A5

Failure Date: 12/10/2024

The mmi (multi media interface) system reboots, sometimes every 2 minutes while driving the vehicle. This incident has been widely reported across Audi customers driving 2020 vehicles. When the system temporarily shuts down and restarts, all systems go down. Meaning, all sensors, back-up cameras, navigation systems, emergency calls, roadside assistance, and the integration of driver assistance systems like adaptive cruise control and collision avoidance assist. The mmi plays a crucial role in enhancing safety features by providing a user-friendly interface for managing various driver assistance systems. When it goes down, as a driver, I am without these safety features and distracted.

The mmi unit randomly reboots and disconnects anything connected for navigation. It does this very often, every single time I drive. In a 30 min drive, it could reboot at least 3 times and make you sign in as a user to access it.

43 Electrical System problem of the 2019 Audi A5

Failure Date: 04/30/2024

The contact owns a 2019 Audi A5. The contact stated while starting the vehicle and shifting into reverse(r), the message "sos system deactivated" was displayed, and the rearview camera became inoperable. The contact shifted to park(p) and shifted back to reverse(r); however, the failure persisted. The contact stated upon restarting the vehicle and shifting to reverse(r), the rearview camera became operable, but the message "sos system deactivated" was displayed. Additionally, the contact stated that while his wife was at a complete stop two weeks later, the Audi pre-sense warning light illuminated, and an alarm sounded. The windows rolled up independently, and the front driver's side seat belt tightened around the waist of the contact's wife. The contact stated that the seat belt untightened, and his wife was able to drive to the residence. The dealer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and a case was opened. The failure mileage was approximately 25,000.

45 Electrical System problem of the 2013 Audi A5

Failure Date: 10/01/2023

I was having an issue with my 2013 Audi A5 starting. A call to roadside assistance was able to jump my battery and the car would start and run. However, the same issue kept happening. The epc warning light would come on and it took a few weeks to get scheduled with a mechanic. I purchased a mobile jump starter myself because I never knew when the car would or wouldn't start. After taking the car to Audi, they found the "transmission coolant valve failing internally causing coolant to migrate up connector - this is causing a short which is draining the battery. If not fixed it will continue to deplete the batter. Recommend replacing valve and and connector". [2023 Audi inspection report. Pdf] this was verified by another mechanic who did the work and shared the faulty, corroded transmission pump connector and leaking valve. [photo: 2023 corroded connector transmission coolant valve. Jpg; 2023 transmission coolant valuve and connector. Jpg] I won't speculate about the potential outcomes of such a failure, but I was told by my mechanic before I brought it in that I should no longer jump the car, because if what Audi found was correct, I could at minimum cause a full failure of the car's electrical system or a fire could start and recommended that I tow the car in for repair, which is what I did. An internet search shows this isn't a unique or isolated issue. Audi owners over the past 7+ years have been experiencing the same issue with the transmission coolant seeping into electrical components, causing shorts and electrical problems like mine. [xxx] [xxx] [xxx] this pump and its proximity to electrical components is a dangerous risk to drivers not aware that what appears as a simple dead battery, could in fact be one jump start away from disaster. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

46 Electrical System problem of the 2020 Audi A5

Failure Date: 08/11/2023

The blue tooth , gos, carplay and emergency sos not working. I looked online and there was a recall, but Audi is no longer honoring the recall to fix this issue.

47 Electrical System problem of the 2013 Audi A5

Failure Date: 12/21/2022

I have experienced several failures and 3 recalls with my vehicle since I purchased it brand new. I have paid out thousands of dollars over the years for repairs that I feel were faulty being that I am on the only owner of the vehicle. I have approximately a little under 75k miles on my vehicle although I purchased in 2012 (2013 vehicle) only to take it to dealerships and pay for this and that but most recently my major complaint is my car has stopped on me 4 times and I paid originally for what the dealership stated was the problem only to take it back 3 times and now they state the fuel pump is the problem and there is no recalls. Audi is known to have recalls on fuel pumps but at this time do not reflect on my vehicle. However, my car has not been in an accident, I am the only owner, the mileage is under 100k and there is no explanation as to why the fuel pump needs replacing. Please look into this. Thank you.

48 Electrical System problem of the 2012 Audi A5

Failure Date: 07/27/2022

While I was driving, my car started to slow down and eventually stopped in the middle of the road. There were no warning sensors or indicators on the car. Ii then started to see smoke coming from my hood and decided to turn off the car and get out to inspect. On the right front side, I saw a fire under the car. The fire department was called and they put out the fire. They suspected an electrical issue, however it has yet to be confirmed. I contacted the dealership and they said they do not handle repairs of that sort. Insurance sent out an estimator for the damage. The car will be sent to a mechanic to diagnose the issue.

49 Electrical System problem of the 2020 Audi A5

Failure Date: 07/21/2022

Our 2020 Audi A5 experienced a module failure affecting sos (loud) Audible alarm that sounds every 2-4 minutes when driving and also affects bluetooth connection for hands free phone. Told by Audi dealership there was a recall, then removed for this due to lack of available parts from Audi. This very loud alarm sounds every 2-4 minutes while driving and is variable so can easily scare driving/distract. Audi dealership said at least 5 other customers also have this present issue and have for months and they have no idea when Audi will send replacement modules. This is a driving hazard I would suspect impacting thousands of customers if 5 at one dealership is an indication. The first time this alarm sounded, my wife nearly drove off the road and then it is shockingly loud each subsequent time and still is startling.

50 Electrical System problem of the 2021 Audi A5

Failure Date: 10/16/2021

The contact owns a 2021 Audi q5. The contact stated that while driving at 5 mph, after shifting from reverse to drive the vehicle lost all power. The contact stated that various warning lights illuminated during the failure. The vehicle was unable to restart. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where the failure was diagnosed as the gateway under the rear seat was wet. The gateway and battery needed replacement. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure by the dealer. The contact stated that the water damage was caused by the vehicle however, the contact stated that she did not cause the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 3,500.

51 Electrical System problem of the 2012 Audi A5

Failure Date: 11/17/2020

This vehicle had a recall, and a new engine was put into it and ever since the new engine was put in, the vehicle has had numerous problems and electrical failures. Now the new engine, with less than 50k is burning oil and no one can tell me why. This is by far the worst vehicle I have ever owned. The minute the car was purchased off of the lease, I feel like the car has just fallen apart.

52 Electrical System problem of the 2020 Audi A5

Failure Date: 09/02/2020

Where I am currently living, speed is measured on the roads in km/h. My vehicle allows the speedometer digital display screen (Audi virtual cockpit) to be switched to display mph or km/h. When working correctly, the speedometer should display the speed with digits and an analog simulation. The display works perfectly when in mph, however when switching to km/h the analog simulation properly shows km/h, but the digital reading will switch to km/h for a split second but then immediately reverts back to mph. This defect was confirmed by 2 Audi service technicians at my local Audi service center, but they said Audi doesn't have an update for this defect. I have tried to contact Audi customer service, but I am not getting any answers to my question. I think this is a safety issue because it can be confusing as I expect to see the speed in km/h in both digital and analog display, but it shows the digital in mph. An image that clearly shows the problem is attached. As you can see the analog style reading is in km/h, but the digital reading is in mph. I have tried to resolve this with Audi for 1 year. It is my opinion that my safety and others has been placed at risk because this problem often causes me to be confused about the speed I am traveling. For example, if I glance down and see 100 on the display in a 100 km/h zone, I think I am going the speed limit, but fact, I would actually be going 100 mph or 160 km/h, which would obviously be dangerous. The vehicle has not been inspected by police, insurance, or any other vehicle inspection organization. The problem occurs consistently and can be inspected at any time. This problem was noticed shortly after taking delivery one year ago in September of 2020.

53 Electrical System problem of the 2010 Audi A5

Failure Date: 11/25/2019

When there is significant moisture in the air the turn signals do not work properly. An intended right turn signal will cause the left signal to fire instead, but it will also erratically fire the right turn signal. The issue tends to reduce in frequency the longer the car is running. I read on an Audi owners forum that the blinker switch is affected by high moisture and causes this issue in 2008-2010 models.

54 Electrical System problem of the 2018 Audi A5

Failure Date: 09/13/2019

I am writing to formally bring to your attention a potential violation of federal vehicle safety reporting requirements by Audi regarding an electronic control unit (ecu)/comfort control module failure in my 2018 Audi A5. As the original owner of this vehicle, I experienced a critical ecu failure approximately 2yrs after purchase (sept 2017), which I believe qualifies as a major safety defect under 49 cfr 573. 6-577. 7. According to federal regulations, manufacturers are required to report such safety defects to the NHTSA within five (5) days of discovery. Furthermore, a root cause analysis should have been conducted & its findings reported w/in sixty (60) days. However, I have strong reason to believe that Audi failed to meet these reporting obligations, as I have never been provided with any findings from the investigation, nor have I seen any publicly available reporting on this defect. Key concerns: • unexplained ecu failure: my vehicle’s ecu/comfort control module failed inexplicably despite being only 2yrs old at the time. • failure to report to NHTSA: I haven't found record of Audi disclosing this issue to the NHTSA, despite clear requirement to do so. • root cause analysis not provided: Audi informed me that analysis was conducted in germany, but I was repeatedly told that the results were “not yet available. ” this raises concerns that the findings may have revealed a broader defect affecting multiple vehicles of the same model/yr. • potential safety risk: if this is not an isolated case, other Audi A5 owners may unknowingly be at risk of ecu failures, which could lead to critical vehicle malfunctions, including loss of control, electrical failures, or immobilization while driving. Given the seriousness of this issue, I urge the NHTSA to investigate Audi’s compliance with 49 cfr 573. 6-577. 7 & determine if this defect affects a broader range of vehicles. If Audi has indeed failed to report this defect properly, appropriate action be taken for consumer safety.

55 Electrical System problem of the 2013 Audi A5

Failure Date: 05/26/2019

Loss of power while driving. I was driving and the car lost power and started shuddering, epc warning light came on and it seemed like it might stall. Since I was driving I pushed in the clutch and coasted to a stop. I shut it off and restarted it and it worked normally so I drove home. I drove it the next day and had no problems. On a following day it did the same thing, loss of power, shaking, not working right. Sometimes it seemed just fine other times it had problems. I took it to a shop to have diagnosis and they discovered water in the engine computer connector and traced it to a cooling valve leak that allows water in the connector at the valve to enter the 2 wire connector and apparently the water wicks up the control wire to the computer connector and shorts out connections to coils and other engine electronics. I searched the web for information and discovered that this is the same issue that has affected 2010 - 2013 Audi a8 and the car was recalled. See 16v619000. I'm wondering why my 2013 A5 that had the exact same problem was not recalled. I have picture of the engine computer showing water that was in the connector and pin 35 is green. The 2 wire connector was removed from the valve and has issues, it is connected to pin 35 of the ecm.

56 Electrical System problem of the 2009 Audi A5

Failure Date: 02/26/2019

My air bag light and parking light icon came on at the same time while starting and remain on. I have read the exact same description from other Audi owners described in recall 6901 16v376. Why is my car not included?? I have restarted my times to no avail.

59 Electrical System problem of the 2013 Audi A5

Failure Date: 04/17/2018

My A5 coupe was affected recall 17v622. I booked an appointment months ago with silver spring Audi. That appointment was cancelled due to the dealership not having the parts to address the recall. I've called multiple times to try to reschedule but the parts remain unavailable. The dealership, today, tried to discourage me from being added to a wait list for the part given that over 100 people were already on the list. (that discouragement made no sense to me. It seems like everyone affected by the recall who uses that dealership should be on the waiting list without even having to call in. ).

60 Electrical System problem of the 2014 Audi A5

Failure Date: 01/22/2018

Audi of seattle confirmed 1/22/2018 that my car is functioning as designed, but I believe this design is unsafe and undesirable. Specifically, when driving in reverse using the backup camera view, if I receive an incoming cell phone call to my paired phone, the car prioritizes the telephone screen view over the backup camera screen view, which immediately disappears. Backing up is of course a time when the driver's arms and hands are not well positioned to poke the "ignore" button on the phone screen.

61 Electrical System problem of the 2013 Audi A5

Failure Date: 12/10/2017

65 Electrical System problem of the 2009 Audi A5

Failure Date: 12/13/2013

Keyless door sensors started to malfunction and would not unlock vehicle when touched. Brought problem to attention of dealership, which stated that they could not duplicate problem and thereby refused to fix issue while the vehicle was still under warranty. Now that the vehicle is no longer under warranty, the problem was found and the cost has to come out of my pocket. There should be a class action lawsuit regarding these keyless door sensor failures.
