Audi A5 owners have reported 12 problems related to other fuel system (under the other fuel system category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Audi A5 based on all problems reported for the A5.
After purchasing the vehicle on 8/2/25, I discovered it had outstanding safety recalls that were neither addressed nor disclosed by the dealership at the time of sale. I have since taken steps to fix these safety issues, but the dealer’s failure to inform me or resolve the recalls before the sale put me at unnecessary risk. I urge the NHTSA to review the dealership’s records from 8/2/25 to hold them accountable for selling a vehicle with unresolved safety defects that compromised my safety. It is not allowing me to add case card with report, only case card available as of today.

While driving the car I press the gas pedal and it loses power or won't accelerate at all, then all of a sudden something happens and it lunges forward fast it is scary I have almost crashed 2 times. This issues is intermittent, thus the driver has no control of when the car is going to drive properly when I doesn't it is scary. I'm have been relegated to 45 miles an hour on the freeway I cannot control any part of the car to ensure I can make a lane change if I need to to overt an accident. The reason I'm filing this is because Audi has known about this since at least 2010, there are TSB's for every year regarding this problem either exact or a slight change of this problem because every car is different. Meaning how it's driven to where it is located and weather issues. Audi has preempted these issues by stating the problem I'm having a long with thousands of others is a performance issue but this is way more than that. It is definitely a safety issue when your car all of a sudden wont accelerate. This issue can remain for 45 minutes or literally a second. This is a very dangerous safety problem and if they meaning Audi had not had known about this problem for over a decade and continue to make these cars the same way then I wouldn't have had to make this report if they would have put this under safety and not performance and preempted a investigation circumventing the ntsb's authority by putting out a TSB before it can be investigated. The dealership refuses to look at the technical service bulletins without a coinciding code, but the software update does not state a code with it because it's for decades of Audis. The software update will fix my car and I cannot do that myself so I have an unsafe car. Also the dealership is refusing to update my software as Audis TSB clearly state all Audis from 2002 to 2025 need this software update for proper repair of all Audi vehicles! the dealership is refusing give me the warranty documents & recalls done.

Couple years ago my engine failed, it was recalled and company refused to pay for it. I payed for it and afterwards my radio modul failed, camera failed, the check engine light is on since I bought the car and recently my car stopped on the highway fast lane without warning. It was no shoulder and I stopped on the highway. I was lucky I didn’t get rear ended n killed.

There was a fuel odor permeating in the vehicle, and the further I drove, the more intense was the gasoline smell. I pulled into a strip mall and turned off the engine for fear of a fire or explosion. I immediately called and requested the car be towed to my mechanic. My mechanic diagnosed the problem the next day as a cracked fuel pump housing. There were no warning lights at all. Given the location of the fuel pump, how does this dangerous incident happen?.

Check engine light came on while vehicle was in motion on an interstate highway. It later went off while driving on city streets. Dealer advised that fuel hose needed replacement at cost of $1,198. Dealer stated there was a flaw in the original hose and that a replacement kit must be installed. Dealer advised that this is a dangerous situation and I should not drive my car home. Dealer stated that this is not covered under warranty and there is no recall. I called Audi. They told me the same thing and suggested I contact NHTSA. Audi issued a technical service bulletin in 2017 advising dealers of this problem and instructing them on how to install the redesigned replacement kit. Instructions cover several Audi models but do not specify model years. To recap, this seems to me to be the very definition of need for a recall: 1. Dealer admits there was a flaw in the original design. 2. Audi has redesigned the system and issued instructions for replacement. 3. Dealer states it is dangerous to drive the car without replacement kit. Please issue a recall for this dangerous situation.
While driving on the interstate my car stalled nearly coming to a complete stop, the engine light came on and I was smelling gasoline so I had to bring it to the nearest mechanic and there it was diagnosed as a fuel injector leaking with multiple cylinder misfire detected. As there is an extended warranty under Audi for faulty fuel injectors, I took the car to Audi to have the manufacturer defected fuel injector replaced under warranty. However, the original mechanic cleared the code from my car's system which caused the engine light to turn off. Because the fault code was cleared by the independent mechanic, Audi is refusing to fix the faulty fuel injector under warranty even though I have documentation with the fault codes that shows the fuel injector was leaking and the reason my car stalled. The Audi service specialist told me that I would have to keep driving my car until the engine light came back on. I know that Audi currently has a recall on some Audi models due to a faulty fuel injector causing fire risks, and I know that driving with a faulty fuel injector will lead to major issues. Obviously I do not feel safe driving my car knowing that the leaking fuel injector could cause a fire in my car and will cause me to once again breakdown. I have documentation, however, it includes my VIN and the note on this website says not to include any personal info including the VIN.

Owner of 2012 Audi A5 and 2015 Audi a4. January 2019 received safety recall letter regarding recall on-electric (after-run) coolant pump certain 2012-2017 model Audi vehicles. As 2nd owners of both vehicles do not have any documentation of brand new cars. Letter received was for a-4 Audi, however a-5 did have same coolant pump damage on vehicle while driving. Recall letter VIN # being for a-4. Tried inquiring about recall for a-5 since recall on others Audi's did involve same type of engine problem having to do with coolant pump. Reason for addressing what endured that it became hot as if engine was on fire, find disturbing to have anyone be put through this, find this coolant pump danger if it's not repaired with other a-5 appreciate your time in reading this and I thank you!.

Fuel injector failed while driving, causing the vehicle to cease operations on the road. Prior to failure, engine stuttered and the cabin smelled smokey.
I just had my fuel door actuator replaced on my 2013 Audi A5 with less than 44,500 miles on it in September 2018. I am having a very difficult time understanding why my fuel door actuator needed to be replace with so low mileage. The car has a range of 455 miles after a fill up the part cost $405. 85 including a shipping charge. This means it cost me $4. 17 to open and close the lid after a fill up. My argument is that the part was defective and it should be replaced for free. I sent the part back to Audi for review. Audi decline to accept responsiblity for the defective part. However, I am not finish with this case. I sent and email to the ceo of Volkswagen in north America and germany in regard to this issue. I am waiting for a reply I would like to know if other people having the same problem with their car over this issue. In addiction, my car has been recalled for water pump issues as well. I have had to replace the water pump three times. The car is being recalled again in regard to the water pump. The work to repair it requires it to be done in two stages. This means five water pump issues. When does a recall become excessive over the same issue. This is nonsense!.
Audi A5 2009 is not a reliable car I will never buy another Audi product in my lifetime. I cant believe how I thought I was alone with the misfire issue and I find in my research there are many others with the same issues for various models unbelievable. Had I search this product, would have been my only wish. The car wouldn't even start up today. Had this car for only 8 months. At 45,000. . .
