Blinking drivers side headlight. Audi has technical service bulletin and will not repair for free !! tere reasoning is is that I have over 100 k miles. I reported this to them when I had 62 k miles and they said it never blinked when they tested it (not true) this is a major safety hazard at night and they want to charge me over $1,000 dollars to fix. . . . This should be a recall as it is a safety issue!!!in fact Audi corporate is aware and are picking and choosing who gets the repair for free!.

I entered today's date and mileage because I had to deal with it again this evening, but this problem has been occurring since the car had 70000 miles on it. It has now gotten so bad that I have to turn the lights on and off every 30 seconds or so while driving so they will stay on enough to get the car home. I do not drive it at night if I do not have to. This problem needs to be fixed. 141 out of 188 complaints you have received on this car are due to people's headlights going out while driving at night. We should not have to pay $1000-2000 to attempt to fix a problem that is clearly a design flaw that occurs in cars with as few as 20000 miles and up. I say attempt because if you read the threads on the topic of "Audi dipped headlight" you will find that no fix is a sure thing or permanent. Thousands of people are having this problem. I submitted this same safety complaint to you a few years ago, nothing has been done and, to this day, people are still submitting complaints after they are suddenly driving down the road with no lights. Does someone have to be killed before Audi is forced to do a recall?.
While replacing a headlight bulb I noticed that the insulation on wires inside the headlight compartment had flaked off, exposing at least 1 inch of multiple wires (low beam and high beam) all along the length of those wires. Both headlights show the same symptom. High beam wires (+v and gnd) are held together with a zip tie and there is flaking insulation all around it, so using the high beam could result in a short circuit inside the headlight housing. As all of the wires are in close proximity, it is possible that normal use of the car (e. G. Bouncing along a rough road) could cause the wires to contact each other and short circuit.
Our 2001 Audi and many other cars like it have plastic headlights that perform well for several years. Then in any sunny location like the us southwest they begin to fog up and become progressively more opaque. This results is more light scatter using the headlamps at night: the headlamps no longer focus a narrow beam of light on the roadway ahead. Due to fogged, opaque head lamp light scatter visibility is reduced putting especially pedestrians and bicycles at risk while driving at night. Also, oncoming traffic experiences greater nighttime glare from fogged headlamps increasing accident risk. Often, replacement costs for new plastic headlamps are prohibitive - at times more than the cost of a used car. Many us drivers thus drive with fogged up, opaque headlamps. Previously glass headlamps delivered many decades of reliable service without ever fogging up as do the windows of any older car. I believe the NHTSA should investigate and consider issuing a safety recall.

Passenger side mechanical vertical adjuster does not function is lamp point to about 10 feet to the front of the vehicle. Diver side adjuster appear to function ok. Online blogs confer multiple problems with Audi headlight adjusters as common, recurrent, and costly to fix. Driving with poorly aimed lights is obviously safety issue.

Headlight turns off during night time operation and displays error code dipped headlight.
"dipped headlight" warning appear. It doesn't flicker or anything, it just turns off. When I manually turn my lights off and back on, it works fine for a while the it starts all over again. I've been reading many forums about this issue and discovered it's not as simple as a bulb change. My wife and child were driving through the desert in arizona when our Audi's driver-side xenon headlight failed. Then again 2 months later, driving with my wife and child through California the passenger-side headlight failed. Both times I was told it was the bulb. But we couldn't simply buy a new bulb. Audi needs to order it and take off the bumper to replace them. About a month later, driving through the arizona desert with my family, the driver-side light went out again. This time Audi service said they need to replace the igniter for the xenon lamp. This all happened within 5 months time. I'd only owned the vehicle about 2 years. When these lights fail, I have to use fog lamps or high beams to have at least 2 lights working at once.
Headlamps gradually developed a misting or fogging of lens which reduced light during night driving, required professional cleaning with special materials to restore light output. Problem started recurring more frequently and headlamps now require professsional restoration every 3 - 6 months, the misting of the lenses caused the vehicle to fail the mandatory vermont safety inspection in 2010. Cleaning costs are considerable, and Audi does not make new headlamp lenses or headlamp shells available, only complete headlamp units are available at cost approaching $ 2000 for the pair. The misting over of the lenses with a deposit that cannot be removed by any normal means creates hazardous night-time driving conditions particularly during rain or snow.
Film has built up on inside of headlamp glasses resulting in reduced efficiency of lights and reduced light output creating possible safety hazard. Dealer has no known way of cleaning inside of headlamps.
Vehicles low beam projection lamps are so narrow that there is little light to illuminate road surfaces resulting in poor visibility. Dealer adjusted the low beams up, that adjustment raised the high beams as well and now the high beams are off the road.

While driving the light projected upward from the headlight lenses creating so much brightness on the large incoming snowflakes causing poor visibility. Consumer noticed that there was not enough heat generated by the low beams and ice had built up over the lenses.
Visability is very poor at night due to misalignment of the headlights.
