Equipment Problems of Audi A8

The sunroof on my 2019 Audi A8 spontaneously exploded around 445 pm on Friday, April 7, 2023. The car was traveling around 55 mph and the sunroof just exploded out. The sunscreen was closed at the time. It was not hit by a rock or a tree limb or any other item. It just exploded. Sounded like a gunshot when the car was brought to a stop, there was a large hole in the sunroof and glass scattered all around the hole.

Message appeared on display Jan 7 2023: "electrical system: malfunction! please contact service" the trunk lid opened while I was driving, the a/c quit (I am in key west!), the auto start/stop quit. I had heard of many other Audi owners whose car just quit, so I scooted home and parked. I had it towed to coral gables FL at my expense, and the dealer told me it was an alternator problem that needed to be replaced. None available in the us, could be months before it's repaired. Car is 2019 Audi A8 with 42,000 miles.

1. Oem Audi windshield started leaking water inside the vehicle. Thia is very unsafe when driving thru rain as water pours down the inside of the glass. 2. Uneven and creaky suspension. Vehivle pulls on side where suspension is not leveling thw vehicle out. 3. Followed all processes in changing brake pads, toros, sensors etc. Brake light doesnt go away after replacing all brake components and resetting brake warning light. Very uneasy feeling driving around qithtbhe light on as unsure as to brakes would spontaneously fail.

A plastic guide piece which holds the passenger side of the panoramic sunroof (rear, above backseat) retractable sunshade continuously breaks on its own with limited infrequent use by control switch. I had it replaced by the dealer, which is expensive. Its my opinion this is a design flaw, or cheap plastic oem issue.

With out any prior warning the car began to sputter and then lost power while I was on the highway. I had the vehicle towed to the dealership and found the turbos failed which caused the problem. This car has been well maintained and serviced by the dealership. It now has a $14000. 00 repair bill.

While traveling on interstate 65 through nashville, TN my 2013 Audi A8l showed an epc light alert then <5 miles later while traveling through interstate split going 20mph the car without alert shut down and I lost power steering, brake control, accelerator control, electric control and was forced to navigate hazardously across 3 lanes of traffic to a modified left side median. I had large vehicle traffic dodging my car going 50-60mph and was forced to call 911. I stayed in the car because much too dangerous to leave the vehicle and was able for a brief minute to restart and get off an exit ramp where it abruptly died again. I had the car towed to Audi dealership where diagnosis showed dual turbocharger failure and they recommended replacement. * catastrophic turbo charger failure - it is available for inpsection * car catastrophically shut down going 15-30 mph on interstate in downtown nashville causing loss of power steering/brake control. This led to immediate danger and harm caused by loss of vehicle control and traffic collision risk * yes - dealer confirmed in multiple locations (nashville and louisville of turbocharger failure * no * the car epc light came on <5 miles prior to shutdown I understand that the NHTSA already has an investigation into this model and year Audi regarding turbocharger failure and I would like to add that I have had a similar problem with this vehicle. It should be recalled to address these safety concerns.

The sunroof of my car exlpoded while driving on the freeway while on my commute to work yesterday morning. Nobody was hurt and luckily my sliding cover was covering the glass at the time.

8/23/2021-I was slowing down at a red light and getting ready to stop but the light turned green and so high pushed on the gas to go before I got to a full stop. The battery warning light came on so I turned around to go back home can you swap cars. My fiancé had to go to work that day and took the vehicle. On his way back going 60 mph on the highway, the power to the vehicle shut down and he was unable to do anything other than slow down and pull off to the side of the road. The vehicle was sent into the Audi dealership and they changed out the 48v battery in the trunk. They also ordered an alternator but did not install it because it start it back up. A couple weeks later (9/25/2021) the same thing happened at a stop sign as I was slowing down but not at a complete stop and hit the gas and the battery light came back on. That light means the battery is disconnected from the engine and once the power runs out, it will shut down again. So I took it straight to the dealership and left it there until they can take a look at it. It’s at the dealership now. There seems to be a flaw in the (stop/go)system of the vehicle when the engine wants to turn off at a stop and when to restart the engine to go. Causing a disconnect of the battery in the trunk to the engine.

The rear view mirror on my car fell off of the windshield without warning. As a result,I nearly backed into a lady and her granddaughter in a senior living facility and a woman pushing a shopping cart at the supermarket. My adaptive cruise control isn't working nor is the sunroof. Th rain sensor and headlights have also been compromised. The manufacturer hasn't inspected it. My insurance company has looked at it, but won't cover it. The rear view mirror has the eyes behind me for the last 28 years. It's second nature to me,so to take my eyes off of the road to check my side/blind spots,an actual blind spot exists behind me. There's too many variables that can come into play with life altering results. Please help me with this issue as I have exhausted all of my resources.

Inadvertent acceleration. Car a against wall at low speed (est. 3 mph). Was unfamiliar with behavior of stop-start feature. Engine was stopped, but vehicle ignition was not turned off. Driver did not anticipate restart of vehicle when lifting foot off of brake. Minor damage to vehicle front end.

Air bag light comes on and stays on even after the initial startup. Vehicle is stationary and has not been moved. Coded error is driver head curtain igniter short circuit to ground.

As a resident of oklahoma I purchased a 2016 Audi A8 from vroom in November 2019. I paid them 30,000 cash down to include $4025 in sales tax $73. 75 dealer inventory tax $105. 50 gov license and registration fees $11. 00 cert of title fee $25. 00 vehicle inspection fee $150. 00 some random document fee related to registration all of which vroom has refused to comply with!!! it's going on nine months and I have not had any type of registration, license plate, temporary plate since January 2020 that's valid on the car that I purchased from this shady company! I signed all the contracts, sent then the VIN verification form and still nothing. Not even additional temporary plates until they get their crap together!! I've called them, emailed them and once they received my payment it's like I didn't exist. This is unacceptable and this company needs to be held responsible. I've been to my oklahoma department of motor vehicles to see if they could help me file a complaint or do something give me a license plate since I've already paid for tax, title & reg but because the company is located in texas they claim there is nothing that they can do. If I had a drivable car I might be able to drive down to a texas dmv but because of vrooms poor business practices, theft and failure to comply with their own contracts I've been paying on a car that is useless to me. Water leak from windshield. Technician noted leak from windshield sealant. Every time it would rain passenger side would get flooded with water from leak clearly a manufacture problem from the sealant.

Smelling of engine coolant. After driving for an hour, you can see steam coming from the hood but no leak.

I was told this is a recurring issue, the antifreeze gets into the wiring harness and for me the engine shut down while driving down the highway. To fix the issue they have to take the engine out and replace the wire harness. A very expensive fix, I have it under warranty but was told I was lucky, which I assume means if I did not have the 100000 mile warranty I would be paying out of pocket. But if this is a common issue it should be a recall issue.

I was driving on a suburban city street in a straight line with no cars or any other obstructions ahead of me or behind me. Without warning, the car engaged its emergency braking throwing my daughter and me forward violently into our seat belts. When I fell back, the dashboard was showing me a proximity warning but again nothing was anywhere near our car. The servicing dealer said they didn't find any error codes and so there was nothing they could do. This hasn't happened again (yet) but the cameras all around the car that engage for parking and in reverse are constantly going out and/or the vehicle mmi system randomly retracts into the dash while driving.

While driving on a city street my car suddenly stopped (4 lane street -- 2 going, to coming). There was very heavy traffic and I could not move the car as it would not come back on, nor could I shift the car into neutral to push it out of the way. As a result, the car remained in the middle of the road, in heavy traffic, for about three hours until the tow truck arrived. The car was towed to the local dealer where it was diagnosed as having coolant leaked into the engine wire harness and into the pcm where it shorted the pins. As a result the car was completely inoperable. This caused a very unsafe condition as there were no warning signs, the car just shut down and would not restart or engage the neutral gear in order for me to get out of the middle of the road. This seems to be a common thing and something that should require Audi to address via a recall in order to replace the affected part(s) before something like this happens or require Audi to make appropriate repairs to those affected by this common and dangerous fault. The transmission coolant valve leaked coolant on to the engine control module causing it to malfunction. The card stopped while in motion in the middle of the busy street and I was almost hit buy a semi truck. It started back up, I got it to a parking lot and it stopped again. I have found no less than 50 online complaints about this problem. Most of the complaints state that the manufacturer was "aware" of the problem.

My 2005 Audi A8l contains a defect which allows the driver's floor mat to pop off it's restraining/locating pegs enabling the mat to move forward and push and hold the accelerator pedal down, resulting runaway acceleration, this seems to be a problem similar to what Toyota owners have experienced and for which Toyota has instituted a large recall. This situation has occurred at least seven times to three separate drivers over the past two years. At the first occurrence to each me and my wife, we were able to control the acceleration with the brake to buy sufficient time to gather our wits and shut off the engine, though it was scary. Now we know to apply the brake and pull the mat back, replacing it on its pegs once we stop. After the first occasion, I took the vehicle to my local Audi dealer in danbury, conn. They kept it for three days, had it inspected by "corporate" people, and in writing concluded that everything was "operating as designed and intended. " the service writer at the danbury Audi dealer told me that Audi felt the problem was the floor mat, and suggested I purchase heavy winter-type mats. I renewed my complaint to Audi in the fall of 2009 in light of the Toyota issue, but they again denied there was anything wrong with the vehicle. Between the first and second complaint, we experienced at least five more episodes of runaway acceleration caused by the floor mat pushing against the accelerator. I try to be vigilant now each time I drive the car to look at the position of the floor mat.
