The instrument panel cluster assembly (screen behind steering wheel) needed to be replaced because it would intermittently stop working and I had no idea of how fast I was going, what gear I was in, how much fuel I had or whether the lane assist and other safety features were working. Without knowing speed, I may have followed cars too closely to safely stop or I could have run out of gas and left stranded somewhere. I thought it might have been software updates occurring but after a few days, I went to the dealer for service. Audi naples was able to detect fault, replicate problem and replaced the assembly on 4/10/2025 for $3,391. 96. The dealer kept the part and told me to keep my receipt in case there is a recall. My car currently has 31,489 miles and had a total inspection and was last serviced on 1/22/2025 with 31,487 miles. I find it outrageous that a part like that would fail in such a short period of time. I was lucky I wasn't on a long trip away from home when it occurred.

The contact owned a 2022 Audi Q5. The contact stated that after completing an oil change at jiffy lube, the contact was informed that there was a minor oil leak coming from the oil pan to the top of the engine. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where the contact was informed that the oil leak might have happened during the oil change and recommended the oil plug replacement. Additionally, the contact stated while his wife was driving at an undisclosed speed and attempting to make a turn, the driver depressed the brake pedal, but the vehicle unintendedly accelerated and drove off at 40-50 mph in front of vehicles that were stopped at the red traffic light. The vehicle then hit the curb and was propelled 4-5 feet in the air. The vehicle then hit a hill and drove on top of the hill in a parking lot. The driver depressed the brake pedal and the vehicle stopped. The air bags deployed. The hazard lights were illuminated. The contact's wife sustained a back injury and could not exit the vehicle. The contact stated that his wife was extracted from the vehicle by the ambulance and was transported to the hospital, where the contact's wife underwent surgery for broken vertebrae. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed and totaled by the insurance company. The dealer and the manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 20,000.

In addition to our complaint #11608543, filed on 8/14/2024, we are submitting a new and different safety concern today. While driving our new 2024 Audi Q5 with the adaptive cruise control set at the speed zone limit (55 mph), the cruise control adjusted itself down to 20 mph. The adjustment from 55 to 20 is sudden and extremely abrupt with some braking being applied. No advanced warnings or discernible causes for the speed reductions were observed. If another driver had been following us, we likely would have experienced a rear end collision. We have experienced this malfunction on [xxx], east of carroll, IA, and 1 to 1-1/2 miles north of [xxx], traveling in both the north direction and south direction. We have visited with the dealer numerous times. The dealership has hooked the vehicle to a diagnostic device and has reported to us that "the vehicle is performing as intended". We have submitted a claim with national Audi customer service representatives and they ruled that "if the dealer says that it is performing as intended", they have to deny our claim. Initially they offered "a gift" in compensation to us. We vigorously refused and stated that our goal was to have the vehicle fixed so it works properly or to have it retired from service before someone gets injured. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

Car was left outside for two weeks while we were gone on a trip. When we returned and attempted to start the car numerous warning lights went off related to turn signals, tail lights, engine ignition, key recognition, etc. We were able to drive the car home but the turn signals and tail lights were malfunctioning and the engine would lose power unexpectedly. Upon researching on Audiworld forums I came to learn I should check to see if there was any moisture in certain areas, including the rear fuse box area at the rear of the car. I checked that location and found many inches of water in the fusebox!!! I learned that many, many people with Q5s have had the same problem which is rainwater entering the vehicles electrical system due to non-operable sunroof drain ports. Yes, I searched and found an unrelated recall 90s9 but the dealer said this was not the issue, the issue is non-operable sunroof drains and the repair cost is $8,000. Having no idea of the danger I was placing my family in by driving this vehicle while its electrical system was swamped with water, I feel a class action lawsuit should be brought against the company for damages for material, labor, as well as the risk of injury or death I placed my wife and I in by driving this vehicle under such unsafe conditions. I noted there was a suit settled for this issue with other models, but not the 2018 Q5. [xxx] v Audi/volkswagon [xxx] . The idea that someone should have to face death for leaving their car in the rain does not even pass the laugh test. Someone in Audi's risk management department needs to address this and make owners whole again. Please advise. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

This was unintentional acceleration case: when I got into the parking space, the car was almost stopped and I was about to press the park button (gear) and the car suddenly accelerated and in a fraction of a second, climbed the curb, crashed into the fence, broke the fence and crushed on a tree. I was still applying brake to stop it and I could not do anything else. The following facts show that the acceleration was totally out of my control. 1. Vehicle climbed the curb 2. And climbed the dirt part, shrubs 3. To hit the fence and broke it; it looked like something mall functioned. As a matter of fact, no safety feature worked and no sound signals went on ! even vehicle's collision system did not kick in when car was climbing over the curb. Fortunately, I could get out of that car and my body was aching due to the seat belt and airbag explosion. (driver side bag exploded for sure. I do not remember if the other side bag exploded. ).
I was pulling into a parking space at approximately 5 mph and the car unintentionally accelerated causing me to jump the curb, go over a grass median and land perpendicularly onto a one-way active road. There were trees and other items on the median I could've hit had I'd been pulling into a different parking space. I also could've hit cars on the road. I quickly got off the road and parked the car.

On October 15 2023 at around 5. 30 pm me and my wife are coming back from my daughter"s house in basking ridge NJ ,to my house in warren NJ which is only about 7 miles. Its local area with speed limit around 35 miles/hr z0ne . I was driving on mount airy road , saw a red light at a distance, and also saw a couple of cars stopped at light, and slowly applied brakes to stop the vehicle. To my surprise the vehicle did not decelerate, instead accelerated very fast, and at that moment I steered the car to the left,to avoid hitting any cars in front of me,which caused me to crash into the side barrier. Within a few minutes the ambulances came, and rushed me and my wife with multiple injuries and fractures to icu morrist0wn memorial hospital. . The car has only about 35,000 miles. We slowly are recovering with physical therapy . This incident definitely changed our lives, I strongly believe that vehicle"s uninted acceleration caused me to crash.
Suddenly car entry stopped working. Warning messages on display about start/stop, engine starting malfunction, every single light. I found the driver rear side full of water where the fuse panel and control modules are located. There was water soaked into the insulation at the bottom of the space as well as the insulation over the wheel well. Water drops were viewed on the controllers in that space.
I was parking my car in a driveway on clear and sunny day. As I put the car into reverse, the engine suddenly accelerated. The car then spun around and moved sideways causing me to crash into the garage along the length of the car on passenger side. The garage was heavily damaged as were two other cars in the garage. I was not injured except for mild bruising and stiffness in neck and shoulders. Air bags did not deploy. My car had to be towed away. Three weeks earlier, the rf acc sensor/module j428 was repaired by the Audi dealership in new london. It was out of alignment due to collision/damage to right front bumper from hit and run driver in a parking lot in June.
The contact owns a 2023 Audi q3. The contact stated that while driving approximately 5 mph over a speed pump the driver pressed the brake pedal while approaching a stop sign when suddenly the vehicle accelerated forward at a high rate of speed and crashed into a fence and brick wall. During the crash the driver sustained a fractured nose, head and face lacerations, neck and lumbar pains and a right arm laceration which required stitches. The front passenger sustained neck, lumbar and chest injuries. Both occupants required immediate medical treatment. A police report was taken at the scene and the vehicle was towed away and later listed as destroyed by the insurance company. The cause of the failure was not determined. The manufacturer and local dealer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 1030.

I have a 2019 Audi Q5 with under 24k miles over the past 4 years of new vehicle ownership. There have been 5+ instances where I am driving under normal conditions and suddenly the vehicle jerks abruptly, slows down to half the original speed (from 65 mph on freeway to 30 mph), gear shifting becomes irregular and the following indicators appear on the dashboard: 1) check engine light, 2) vehicle repair required 3) warning icon w/ triangle around and exclamation point. "drive system malfunction" note appears on screen. Ignition cycling may temporarily remove the warning indicator lights, however the same exact issue happens once I'm back on the road - sometimes only driving at 20 mph through residential streets. I have taken the vehicle into Audi service centers for immediate repair after each incident, only to have this become a recurring issue. This is an extremely dangerous situation where a vehicle could unexpectedly reduce speeds and potentially result in traffic accidents. I have found many internet posts on this same exact issue which are major concerns of Audi owners.
The car is totalled. My car tripped 9+ malfunction warnings, after starting and driving. These included rear brake lights, directionals, start/stop system, and more. It appears that the sunroof leaks, and the roof drains were clogged (even though they were specifically checked and cleaned by the dealer 2 months earlier). This led to water accumulating in the areas under the back seat (a prior recall which allegedly had been addressed. . . Nhtsa campaign number: 21v947000. Audi’s number for this recall is 90s9. ), and in the rear wheel well area, where electronics control modules live. The car eventually had to be towed to the dealer. It was initially estimated to cost $9,500 to repair. But, after several weeks, more water was found and it was declared not worth repairing.
Jan. 2023 my coolant pump had blockage which caused the coolant hose to break and discharge coolant all over my engine and overheat. I have the repair receipt from Audi dealer and requested a copy of the inspection report from them. Pictures also attached. I also have my car at the Audi dealer as we speak due to a week later the car would not accelerate properly with a drive system malfunction error light, which is now the turbo charger needing replacement. Towed to Audi dealer on 2. 7. 2023 and waiting for turbo charger delivery, currently on back-order. These are not normal wear and tear items on a vehicle with 53,000 miles.
Incident occurred as I was waiting third in line to add fuel to my Audi. Usually when I am in a long wait I put my vehicle in neutral and to move forward then I have to put my foot on brake to change gears. In this incident I did just that when car in front moved up, but the car suddenly accelerated forward quickly and hit with force the car in front. I put car in reverse to back off with intent to shut down car to exit in order to assess damage and provide insurance information. Instead when I went into reverse the car shot uncontrollably backward 20-30 feet at high speed striking another car entering the fueling area. In either the forward motion and or the backward motion of car did the sensors or brake assistance system deploy. The car will be inspected by both Audi America and also by a third party appointed by my insurance provider.

On June 1 2022, driving at a speed of approx 20 mph, the car brakes came on suddenly, 4 windows came down and the vehicle came to an abrupt halt in the middle of the road. A message came on to the effect that the electric system had failed. The vehicle was not driveable and was towed to the Audi dealership (south coast Audi, santa ana, CA) the same day. I was very concerned about this issue and so contacted both the dealership and Audi USA to request that it be investigated without delay given this issue could endanger lives or cause serious injury. Despite calling the dealership and Audi USA, the vehicle has not yet to my knowledge even been inspected. The dealer advised me that because they are so busy they may not even look at it until June 20 (20 days after the incident. I called Audi USA and advise them that this is a safety concern that they must investigate. Audi USA contacted the dealer but simply advised me that they had made a request to the dealer to keep me updated. Audi has otherwise failed to take any action to investigate the cause of this.
We were driving home on the interstate when suddenly we got an “electrical system malfunction. Safely stop vehicle!” notification. We pulled over to the shoulder and were able to restart the vehicle but the check engine light was on. We were able to get to the nearest exit when the error appeared again. This time as I was pulling over, the screen went blank and I completely lost power to the vehicle. Thankfully this occurred in a very remote area and there were not a lot of cars around. If this had happened at a place without a shoulder (ex a construction zone, or a narrow winding mountain road) we would have had no place to pull over given the time between when we saw the error and when we lost power to the vehicle was only about ten seconds. At best we become a traffic obstruction. At worst if this occurred in a location with poor visibility we would be rear ended at extremely high velocity. Dealer diagnosed the issue and stated there is a TSB from Audi. The fix, however, is only coming end of q3 2022. We are supposed to drive a car that could shut down at any moment in the meantime and just hope it doesn’t happen again, the dealer could not provide a fix they simply cleared the error codes. Dealer said they have had 3 other 2022 Q5e come in with the same issue. The only indication of the failure came with the “electrical system malfunction. Safely stop vehicle!” error message. It appeared suddenly and we had no prior indication from the vehicle that something was wrong. We did have a check engine light after the error appeared the first time.

When using cruise control, the vehicle suddenly brakes. If set a 70mph it will jam on the brakes and reset to 45 mph. This has caused near rear collisions. This is a recurring problem,. Audi service tried 3 times to identify the problem. Google has other owners with the same problem.
It says driver system malfunction. Day before that it says auto start and stop malfunction failure. When you are the traffic light and slow down and take a turn then the car gives kinds of couple of pushes as if the it gearbox is not able to adjust the speed automatically . You need to accelerate to keep the balance of the car. Every passenger of the car feel the same. After 2 days I started getting driver system malfunction warning. The car is not safe to drive on highways or local road as gearbox has some issues. There is a class action lawsuit for the similar problem which Audi did not address yet. Https://margarianlaw. Com/Audi-class-action-lawsuit/.
The contact owns a 2013 Audi Q5. The contact stated while driving 10 mph in a parking lot, after depressing brake pedal the vehicle began to accelerate independently. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The contact was able to stop the vehicle by shifting into park. The contact stated that he had experienced the failure multiple times. The contact took the vehicle to the local dealer however, the mechanic was unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not repaired but was pending repairs. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 47,000.

Audi pre-sense braking fault; recall needed! 1- while moving forward on an empty, flat, 2-lane, suburban road at approximately 35mph, the brakes suddenly activated, bring my vehicle to a near stop, with a loud, grinding sound. Terrifying. There were no objects or vehicles on the road, no glaring sunlight or other problems that could have caused this. April 15, 2020. 2- twice or more, in the few weeks or so prior to this event, while backing up into my garage, the vehicle suddenly stopped with a loud grinding sound. There were no objects, vehicles, glaring lights, or anything that would have caused the vehicle to brake this time vs. The hundreds of other times the same process had been completed. Between January 1, 2020, to present. Vehicle was approximately 1. 5 years old and approximately 10,000 miles when these braking events happened. I believe the problem is caused by an error in the Audi pre-sense system, which causes the vehicle to brake to prevent a collision.
On Monday 3/9/2020 around 6:45pm edt, I was driving in a residential zone approx. 25-30 mph. I approached a stop sign and pressed the brake to stop the car. The car slowed slightly but did not stop, despite my intense pressure on the brake pedal. Instead, the engine revved spontaneously several times and I proceeded half-way through the (thankfully empty) intersection. I confirmed I was in regular drive gear (not the semi-manual mode), then quickly put the car in park to stop the vehicle, but the engine continued to rev. I turned the ignition off and back on, then continued driving without further incident. That night, I searched online and found another customer reported a nearly identical experience with a 2017 Audi Q5 on March 16 2017 (brakes failed problem). That customer's dealer found a fault with the abs brake module, which was repaired. I took my car to an Audi dealer (zip code 48301) the following day but they were unable to find any "faults" and therefore make any repairs. The vehicle is 2017 with approx. 17k miles, still under oem warranty.

This vehicle has active lane assist. There is a control that sends an alarm to prevent drivers from attempting to drive without hands on the wheel. This car is generating frequent false alerts (eg driving with hands on the wheel). It is most common on straight roads, but can happen every few minutes. This is extremely annoying and results in me turning off the lane assist. What is designed as a safety mechanism is actually increasing risk as the feature is unuseable. The dealer and corporate customer support say the car is functioning to design and will not take any action. The dealer says that this happens on all prestige model Q5's but not on other models, confirming to me that this is defective in either implementation and or design. I encourage you to consider starting an investigation and possible recall.
Tl the contact owns a 2014 Audi Q5. While driving approximately 30 mph, the vehicle independently accelerated up to 80 mph. The contact shifted into neutral and the vehicle gradually came to a stop without crashing. The contact stated that the tachometer was red-lined at the time. The vehicle was taken to Audi orland park (located at 8021 159th st, tinley park, IL 60477, (708) 342-0300) where it was diagnosed that both water pumps failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The approximate failure mileage was 130,000.

Hey, im carmen, im german and I m diplomatic, I work at the permanent mission of germany for the united nations till March 2019. My question is, I want to bring a Audi Q5 , brand new model , a german model, from germany to new york. And afte my job in 2019, I want to take it back to germany. Is there any problem?? must I change any stuff because of other safety rules or something? other lights, miles per hour, electricity?.
I was driving my car around some blind curves when I heard a clank kind of sound and clicking and then lost power fortunately I was close enough I coasted home. I was very lucky. I could not get the engine to start and had it towed to the Audi dealer he said, engine no start no power: found engine cranks without compression. Found timing chain stretched and jumped timing. Removed and inspected valves and found all valves to be bent. At this time we need to replace the cylinder head and timing chain and related parts. Parts: $4800 labor: $4835 total: $9635. 00 regards, I believe this is a problem that actually is so common that several mechanics have websites on how to protect your chain from doing this. I of course had no idea about any of this before. . . Because no one told me it was an issue!!!! or I would have done the preventative care. Also, I just read they are doing a class action suit with this in new jersey. I can tell you I am feeling very nervous about driving my Audi again!!! I have no confidence in these chains!.
I have a 2016 Audi Q5 and recently was involved in a serious single-car accident. I was parking my car and moved my foot to brake when the car surged forward over a couple of boulders through the trees flipping once and rolling down an embankment. I, miraculously, came out of the incident unscathed. Three weeks earlier my brother-in-law borrowed my car and said I should have the car checked because it surged forward on him on three different occasions when he went to brake. I dismissed his comments, thinking he was not used to my car. Turns out there may have been a connection to both of our experiences and a serious safety issue with the car. I have contacted Audi corporate, but wanted to register this incident.
The contact owns a 2013 Audi Q5. While driving various speeds, the vehicle accelerated independently. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was repaired; however, the repairs were unknown. The failure recurred. While idling at a red light, the vehicle accelerated independently and nearly caused a crash. The contact was able to stop the vehicle by shifting into neutral. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 28,834.
1. Q5 2. 0 has a very harsh downshift whether in automatic mode or in manual/sportronic. Specially 4->3 and 3->2 and 2->1. As a result the car comes to a stop and then jerk forward after the stop (2-1), causing accidents in parking garages specially in tight spots. Audi has acknowledged the issue, applied TSB-37-13-83 software update, even replaced the mechatronic unit but the harsh jerky downshift returns. Dealer says it is not a problem but a "characteristic" of this car. Escalated to Audi of America, and they confirm it is a characteristic of the vehicle and they say they cannot do anything about it. . Read more...
