After just merging to i695 w from traveling south on i95 vehicle continued to accelerate after going full throttle and would not respond to the brake override. It appeared that the throttle pedal was somehow stuck and would not come back up on its own. The pedal appeared to have gone past its 'normal' motion range and had sunk quite low into the floor. This forced me to have to stand with full force on the brake and unto the shoulder with a full emergency stop required. Which in turn caused to brakes to smoke for a few minutes. I have confirmed that it was not the floor mats or any object impeding the travel of the pedal that could have caused the issue. After turning the car off I was able to force-ably return the throttle back to its 'normal' position. I have not since gone wot since this incident happened.
