•component/system failed: front left marker light; available for inspection upon request. •safety risk: reduced visibility to other drivers, especially at night or in low-light conditions, increasing the risk of a collision. •reproduction/confirmation: confirmed by Audi, but not covered under an existing recall. •warning signs/symptoms: dash light reads "front left marker light defective" ; first noticed on during a routine exterior light check. Many vehicles not included in this recall: NHTSA campaign number: 16v642000 manufacturer Volkswagen group of America, inc. Components electrical system, exterior lighting potential number of units affected 79,895 summary Volkswagen group of America, inc. (Volkswagen) is recalling certain model year 2016 tt roadster, a3 cabriolet, a3 sedan and a3 e-tron, 2016-2017 tt coupe, 2017 a4 sedan and Q7 and 2015-2017 q3 vehicles. The affected vehicles may have been programmed with new software that inadvertently makes the side marker lights inoperative in conjunction with the parking lights or the headlights. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of federal motor vehicle safety standard (fmvss) number 108, "lamps, reflective devices, and associated equipment. " remedy Audi will notify owners, and dealers will upload revised software to correct the issue, free of charge. This recall began November 2016. Owners may contact Audi customer service at 1-800-253-2834. Volkswagen's number for this recall is 97cb.
This issue closely resembles Audi recall campaign 97cb (NHTSA campaign id 16v642000), with details available at [xxx] . In my case, the marker light itself is functioning properly, but the vehicle is displaying a false error message: "front right side marker light defective. " this poses safety risks because the erroneous warning distracts drivers from the road and could lead to the system failing to alert the driver of an actual side marker light issue in the future. Many owners of the same model and year are disabling their side marker lights entirely to avoid the error, as evidenced in discussions such as those on [xxx] . Repairing this issue typically requires replacing the entire headlight assembly, with costs ranging from $2,400 to $5,300, making it prohibitively expensive for many. Although Audi initiated a recall (97cb) for a similar issue, it was limited to a specific subset of vehicles, and the widespread nature of this problem in other vehicles outside the recall’s VIN range suggests a broader defect. Given these safety risks, high repair costs, and the frequency of the issue, I urge the NHTSA to investigate whether this problem warrants a broader recall or corrective actions by the manufacturer. Error code for right front side marker light faulty. Light seems to be working. I've had two mechanics look at the car. They can't figure out what's wrong. Error message appears randomly. Brakes are very squeaky. I took the car to Audi and they said it was normal and I should brake more aggressively.
The front left side marker lighting is defective. This was a recall but only on certain VIN numbers, although it appears the recall should’ve covered more vins.

I am filing a complaint and request for a recall on 2019 Audi Q7's side marker light. This is 2019 model Audi Q7. It has about 60k miles. I start getting a warning message pops up frequently saying "right front side marker light faulty see owner's manual". Searching online it appears many user with same model years facing the same problem, but could be on the left side. Some say dealer will not cover the repair even with extended warranty. Repair cost ranges from $3000 to $5000. The part is around $30. Due to this what people would normally do is just disable the light with some diagnostic tools. This is against the safety requirement and extremely dangerous in my opinion. This is most likely manufacturer's faulty design or defects since it is so prevailing among car owners of same model. Please see some of the online posts by owners with this issue. . Read more...

Car indicated "front left side marker light defective" upon further research, some VIN's were included in a recall for this problem, but some were left off. My vehicle was left off, despite the warning coming on while driving. The marker light being defective increases likelihood of a crash or other incident.
The left front side marker light is defective. However, the left front side marker light is working. The vehicle keeps reporting this error. Audi recall campaign 97cb (NHTSA campaign id 16v642000) addresses this exact issue, but this problem has always existed. Even 2018 Audi vehicles have this problem.
A very distracting warning about an issue with a front left side marker keeps popping up - on some rides multiple times in a minute! - and the only way to address it is, according to the dealership, to pay almost $7,000 to replace the entire headlamp assembly. It’s so distracting I do not permit the new teenage driver in our family to drive the car because I do not think it is safe. The visual is alarming and appears in the display immediately behind the steering wheel, so it is distracting. I think it makes a ping! noise too, each time it appears. The car passed inspection because the light still works, there seems to be some other problem deep in the assembly that is causing the distracting warning. Given the cost and the safety issue from the distraction, I was surprised there is not a recall on this. So, I am reporting it now. Here is the information the dealership provided with the estimate: immediate attention upon inspection and diagnosing found left headlamp assembly is defective 450tu for headlamp replacement 350 tu for front camera calibration replace headlamp assembly is 6,973. 89.
We were driving the car and all of a sudden a error came that said "front right side marker light defective" my lights are working perfectly fine. There is no issue with the lights at all. This is a false sensor issue that needs to be fixed and recalled.
Front left and right marker lights show up as defective on the dashboard, intermittently, but the lights are working. Have seen on different forums that this is not uncommon with this vehicle. Many complaints. Tried working with Audi/USA and have followed their advice with needing a dealership assessments. I have done this on two occasions, but they said that they will not be responsible, but that the dealership will offer a labor discount of 10%. These quotes are over $7000 to replace the lights and modules (that are working), if you don’t want to keep listening to the dinging warning bells. And it forces the customer to fix it because you will never be able to sell the car even though the lights are working. Think at least Audi should pay for the parts on all complaints. There is such a term as “good will” and they should broaden the recall on this item. My vehicle had a recall on this that the dealership repaired before I even purchased the vehicle which was new. Audi informed them when it was on the lot, but they say it was for the same thing but they just had to do an update on it? how did they know that when the car only had maybe 10 miles on it when we took delivery. Hopefully, someone in your department has some clout and back Audi up against the wall and take responsibility. Thank you [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
Car starting giving an error that the “front right side parking light is defective”.
Matrix adaptive headlights are not working. Night driving with increased adoption of led headlights become challenging due to high glare level and associated temporary vision sensitivity reduction, I was hoping that matrix adaptive headlights will improve this (especially in states like michigan where extra side light appreciates due to high amount of deers) but they are not working. Also, it puts some pedestrians under extra danger since they could not been seen in low light conditions (there’s a lack of external lighting poles).

Front right side marker light defective warning on dash - request to include in Audi recall campaign 97cb (NHTSA campaign id 16v642000).
The computer keeps showing that we have a malfunction in the side marker lights. They still work but we get the notice daily. Have taken it to the the dealer and they state that there is a recall but our VIN number is not in the listing. There repair cost is over $4000. It's the same problem, my vehicle is in the 2017 Q7 range. Our number needs to be added to the recall of the same problem.
My 7 year old car now display the below error and Audi says it will cost $6000 to fix this. $6k to fix a broken light is unacceptable especially because it is a known issue. Audi recall campaign 97cb (NHTSA campaign id 16v642000) addresses this exact issue.
My 2017 Audi Q7 is reporting a "front right side marker light defective" message. This happened after the car was brought into the dealer. The light is functional according to the dealer and visual inspection but I was told this is a nuisance error message. The dealer said even though it is working fine, I can pay $4,000 to have the light replaced to make the message go away. Or the other option is to just live with it, which means when it does go out I won't know that it has failed. This seems like a defective part that should be recalled.
"front left" or "front right" "side marker light defective" message.
"front right side marker light defective" error Audi recall campaign 97cb (NHTSA campaign id 16v642000) addresses this exact issue and applies to some affected VIN numbers but not all. My VIN is not included in the recall.
Front left side marker light malfunction warning came on. All lights seem to be working but warning light is still on . All forums online indicate a common issue with no resolution other than disabling the safety feature which is not a good option. Seems to be a prevalent issue with the Q7 and should warrant a recall.
