I was driving on the freeway and got off on an exit ramp at high speeds and began to slow down and break. As I was breaking the car became clunky and slowed down and suddenly shut off. The warning lights “transmission failure and “esc failure” came on and I was unable to drive or put the car into gear. The car flashed “stop. Pull over” and “not safe to drive” and see “Audi dealer”. The car would not turn back on. We were stuck in the middle of the freeway off-ramp with cars flying by us with no sidewalks or safe ways to exit the vehicle. I had my wife, dog and 2 and 4 year old kids with me. I then had to be towed to my local Audi dealer. At the Audi dealer, I told them what happened and asked for a full diagnostic. They then called me the next day and said they ran codes and nothing popped up. I said can they run a full diagnostic further and see what happened. They called me the next day and said they did a “deeper dive” and I needed to replace my transmission intake body valve and gave me a repaid quote of $8,000. My car had been serviced 2 months prior on 10/16/25 with the transmission being checked and said great.

My 2017 Audi Q7 prestige 3. 0t 6cyl gas crec supercharged has experienced repeated, serious failures involving the engine, powertrain, and fuel system. - at 72,000 miles, the vehicle developed coolant leaks under the supercharger, a failed water pump, and soaked drive belts. Repairs included multiple hoses, gaskets, and thermostat replacement. -shortly after, repeated pcv/oil system failures caused oil leaks, warning lights, and engine shaking. Repairs included pcv system, oil separator, valve cover gasket, breather pipes, and new spark plugs. - at 111,000 miles, the low-pressure fuel pump and relay failed, causing the vehicle to stall and lose all power while driving- a major safety risk. -most recently, the engine developed a severe misfire in cylinder #4. Compression testing confirmed abnormally low compression (15 psi) due to a suspected cracked valve seat. The vehicle cannot be repaired without a complete engine replacement, quoted at ~$20,000. Safety impact: - vehicle has stalled suddenly in traffic due to fuel and engine failures, risking crash or injury. - coolant and oil leaks present a potential fire hazard. - loss of power and shaking while driving put my family and others at risk. Inspection/confirmation: -all problems have been repeatedly confirmed and repaired by an independent Audi specialty service center (s&s auto repair). - numerous invoices document coolant, oil, fuel, and engine failures. Warning signs: - multiple dashboard warning lights appeared either right before or during failure, including engine malfunction, coolant loss, and auto start/stop malfunction. These repeated failures at relatively low mileage suggest a design/manufacturing defect with the Audi 3. 0t engine platform that compromises both safety and reliability. The issue seems to be widespread amongst other Audi owners with the same 3. 0t engine- per Audiworld forums.
I am filing a formal complaint regarding serious safety-related defects in a newly purchased Audi vehicle. Immediately upon delivery, the car presented: • a faulty solenoid, a critical engine component, creating risks of engine misfires, sudden stalling, loss of acceleration, and transmission malfunctions while driving. Such failures pose imminent hazards during the cross-country travel that military families like mine regularly undertake. • defective windshield wipers from the outset, jeopardizing visibility and safety during inclement weather. These defects demonstrate systemic quality control failures by Audi, undermining the safety expectations owed to u. S. Consumers. Requested action I urge NHTSA 1. Investigate Audi for potential violations of federal motor vehicle safety standards. 2. Evaluate whether a recall is warranted, as this appears not to be an isolated case. 3. Hold Audi accountable for delivering vehicles with concealed or unaddressed safety defects. As a u. S. Military officer, I cannot risk the safety of my family in a vehicle plagued by such defects. American families deserve full confidence that new vehicles meet uncompromising safety standards.

To whom it may concern, I am writing to formally report a serious and recurring safety issue involving my 2018 Audi Q7. The vehicle has experienced repeated drive system malfunctions that result in sudden loss of power, reduced acceleration, and warning messages on the dashboard such as “drive system: malfunction” and “electrical system failure. ” these incidents have occurred while the vehicle was in motion, creating a hazardous situation for both the occupants and surrounding drivers. In my case, the vehicle unexpectedly lost power while driving at highway speeds, forcing me to maneuver to the shoulder with diminished control. This sudden malfunction is unpredictable and could easily result in a collision or serious injury, especially in high-speed or high-traffic conditions. Upon researching this issue, I found that numerous other 2018 Audi Q7 owners have reported similar problems. These complaints consistently cite the same symptoms, including sudden deceleration, electrical system errors, and power steering failure. It appears to be a widespread defect that may warrant a recall or further investigation by the NHTSA. I urge your office to investigate this matter promptly to prevent potential injuries or fatalities. I am willing to provide service records, diagnostic codes, photos, or any other documentation that may support this complaint. Thank you for your attention to this serious safety concern. I hope the NHTSA will take appropriate action to ensure the safety of all drivers affected by this defect.

In July 2023, my 2020 Audi Q7 experienced a complete electrical failure at highway speeds due to a belt starter generator (bsg) malfunction. Audi replaced the bsg with the same faulty part. Months later, I noticed increased oil consumption and loud engine noise. Despite multiple service visits and reporting these issues, Audi failed to properly diagnose the problem. In January 2025, despite a clear check engine light indicating a problem, Audi dismissed my concerns. Just weeks later, in February 2025, the engine catastrophically failed due to undiagnosed internal damage. Audi repeatedly ignored diagnostic warnings and failed to address my complaints, putting my safety at risk. Audi consistently dismissed my concerns, attributing engine noise and oil consumption to normal wear. The failures posed safety risks, including sudden loss of power while driving. Despite documented defects, Audi refused to take responsibility or perform proper diagnostics, resulting in continued safety hazards. I am formally requesting NHTSA to investigate the widespread issues affecting the 2020 Audi Q7, including the bsg system and excessive oil consumption leading to engine failure. ” additional details: •component/system failure: the 48v belt starter generator (bsg) and the engine failed. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request. •safety risks: the electrical failure at highway speeds caused a sudden loss of power. The engine failure posed a risk of the vehicle shutting down unexpectedly while driving. •problem confirmation: the Audi dealership confirmed the engine failure and acknowledged the presence of metal shavings in the oil, indicating severe internal damage. •inspections: the vehicle has been inspected by the Audi dealership, and Audi representatives acknowledged the issue. •warning signs: the check engine light illuminated in January 2025. Additional symptoms included loud engine noise (‘tractor-like’) and increased oil consumption, which Audi dismissed.

The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the vehicle was diagnosed, and the contact was informed that the transmission had malfunctioned and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 143,000.
Central control module failure. Item is under recall for various q5 models. Q7 is essentially the same car with same water intrusion problem. Why isn’t it included in recall. Very dangerous stall.
Audi rumble is present on this vehicle, Audi disregards it even after visiting the dealer many times over the issue. Center diff is what is causing it. No issue up to 30k miles, then the rumble started. I am afraid of the drivetrain breaking and locking up during driving which could be catastrophic. Audi does have tsbs on this exact issue from previous model years, this model year doesnt. More complaints should come in eventually for this exact issue.
I am experiencing a severe oil leak between the engine and gearbox of my Audi Q7. This issue poses a safety risk due to potential engine malfunctions and accidents. Many hello my name is [xxx] , owner of 2014 Q7 tdi. I am writing to bring to your attention a prevalent issue that has been reported by numerous Audi Q7 tdi vehicle owners, including myself. It has come to my attention, through various online forums such as Audiforum, that a significant number of Q7 tdi owners are experiencing oil leaks between the engine and gearbox. This issue poses a safety risk due to potential engine malfunctions and accidents. Many other Q7 owners have reported similar problems, and Audi America is aware of the issue. Warning signs appear when oil levels are low, indicating the need for constant oil replenishment. The component in question is available for inspection upon request. This issue not only poses a potential safety risk but also has the potential to cause significant damage to the vehicle's engine and drivetrain components. As a concerned owner, I believe it is imperative for Audi to address this issue promptly and comprehensively. Therefore, I am formally requesting that Audi initiate a recall for all affected Audi Q7 tdi vehicles to rectify the oil leak issue. I urge Audi to conduct a thorough investigation into the root cause of the problem and implement appropriate measures to remedy it, ensuring the safety and satisfaction of its customers. Please provide me with information on the formal procedure to file a request for a recall regarding this issue. Additionally, I would appreciate regular updates on the progress of this matter and any actions taken by Audi to address it. Thank you for your attention to this matter. I look forward to your prompt response and resolution of this issue. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

Car is consuming 1 quart of oil every 600 miles.
I got the checking engine malfunction. Took it to the dealer for dianogtic found code p052e001 pcv ( crankcase breather valve fault and it need to be replace because it also caused the emission issue). I found it was under extentison warranty to 10 year or 120000 miles , I contacted Audi and they said my VIN is not eligible to the warranty. I believed they should provide the extension warranty for all of their vehicles.
In the first 10k miles the motherboard had to be replaced. Then the volume dial twice. Then the fuel sensor broke and because of its placement the entire gas tank had to be replaced. Next up at 45k the medtronic (brains of the transmission had to be replaced and then the differential was having problems and they were debating working on it. I went to sell it at 48k miles before the warranty expired and during the inspection it was noted the two engine mounts were leaking and needed to be replaced. After I sold it to an Audi dealer, different than the Audi dealer I had purchased the car from and where I had all the warranty work done, I found out the carfax report showed none of the repairs made by the original Audi dealer to the car. Seems fradulent to me by the original Audi dealership who did all the major repairs.

Audi quattro (differential) noise is being heard while turning the car. The problem was identified to be due to different speeds between the front and rear differential, the locking effect of the center differential can differ significantly in tight bends. – unless there is a design flaw, there should be no noise coming from the differential . This is totally unheard of from any car I have owned. Problem was reported to Audi dealership and no definite solution was offered other than changing the oil for the center differential oil and checking to see if the problem goes away. If it does not, they would do further investigation. This is an Audi quattro differential design fault that can be very dangerous if it fails on highways or under adverse weather or at high trafficked areas. I started an incident case (reference #06217801) with Audi USA and regional case manager (mr) told me that "our responsibility is to service the vehicles within the parameters of the new vehicle limited warranty. This covers manufacturer’s shortcomings on parts and labor for 4 years or 50,000 miles (whichever occurs first) from the vehicle’s in-service date. Once these parameters have been exceeded, repairs do become the responsibility of the owner of the vehicle. Any diagnostic cost would be customer pay. " this is why Audi has more class action law suits against them than any other auto brand. Keep in mind Audi has had more class action lawsuit (and lost) against them than any other auto company. I have received 5 notices of class action lawsuit that Audi decided to settle in the last 6 years - just on one model. Needless to say, Audi (vw) puts faulty dangerous products on the road, hoping NHTSA has no appetite to go after them.
Since purchase of this vehicle, it randomly trips a critical engine failure error do not exceed 1200 rpm. When it does this, it will idle at a much higher rpm than the do not exceed value, which causes the vehicle to come to a stop. The vehicle went into the shop during the winter of 2022, and they determined that it was a computer failure and replaced the car's computer system. The error went away until the winter/spring of 2023. In 2022, this error always occurred within a few blocks of home at low speed; but now this critical error will trip while driving on the roads at faster speeds, which causes the vehicle to rapidly decelerate. The dealership and service center looked over the issue and found that Audi has a technical bulletin out for this, and they expect a fix by fourth quarter 2023. Until then, they advise that it is not a problem and when the vehicle does this error wait until you're stopped and then turn the car off and back on to return the vehicle to normal operating conditions. Audi told the dealership there is no safety issue, and I'm telling the dealership that it will stop rapidly and without warning, and I was lucky the last time this happened that the cars behind me were paying attention. Neither Audi corporate or Audi bellevue consider this a safety risk, and that having a car stop suddenly and without warning to the driver or other cars on the road is perfectly fine. I've tried dealing with them all and the dealership states Audi says there is no safety issue and no fix so there is nothing we can do, and Audi USA customer care says that the dealership says it is safe so there is nothing we can do. It's a circle of nobody dealing with a serious safety issue. They state it's a rare occurrence, but I've had this happen several times over the 16 months I've owned the vehicle. See picture from text communicaiton.

We have a 2014 Audi Q7 with 60k mileage that we serviced and maintained by hoffman Audi all the time. On December 27th, while on the freeway, the engine was shut down without any prior alert, with a lot of smoke and oil leakage. With our minimal knowledge, it appears the gasket was frozen, causing the coolant to leak into the engine's unwanted part and damage it completely. This is a manufacturing and poor-quality Audi product that could have risked the life of the passengers on board. We filed a complaint to Audi USA with no response, and insurance declined. We need your kind attention to help us in finding a way to fix the issue as why did hoffman service center never figure out the issue, if there was one, and why did Audi not give any alert before such a disaster took place that will cost us >24k to fix a $35k car.
The water pump was leaking while I was on the highway and smoke came out from the engine blocking my view. Had to make an emergency maneuver and pull over immediately.
My Audi with 42k miles ran out of gas on the interstate highway without any warning. Failure was a fuel sending unit which provides fuel quantity info and the low fuel light. The erroneous display indicated just less than half tank and the display indicated 185 miles to empty. This failure of the engine to suddenly quit on a busy freeway is potentially catastrophic! at a minimum there should be a safety recall requiring the Audi company to design the low fuel light to be on a separate circuit.
First thing is fuel smell in cabin very dangerous for me as well as any passengers next is transmission there is no way telling how much fluid is in the vehicle that should be monitored by the consumer they have a right to know front & rear axles seem to get worn quickly must be a problem in the drivetrain somewhere.

When I was driving and trying to make a right turn to merge into the traffic, the transmission suddenly stalled and stuck in neutral, put my car in the right lane with large traffic on the lane and forced other cars to make sudden stop. After restarting the engine multiple times, it was suspected that somehow the transmission is always in neutral while the onboard system showing it is in driving mode. I had to get out of the car to push it to a safe side road. This is all sudden while car engine is running. Initially the onboard dashboard shows transmission malfunction, but after restarting even that error message disappeared, while the transmission is still not engaging.
At times, the "stop-start" system seems to falter when the vehicle has slowed to almost a full stop, but not quite. If I try to accelerate I get a few seconds when nothing happens. I feel that it is either a transmission caught between shifts or an engine falter. I have mentioned this to the dealer, but was told that "that's how it is".
Water pump leaked and had to be replaced at 50,000 miles and 4 1/2 years old.

There is a gas odor that is overwhelming when the truck starts. The gas mix with oil fumes will cause headaches because the odor comes into the vents of the truck and does not stop until after the truck is turned off. When the vehicle is turned off there is a hissing sound in the engine that does not stop until after 15min the engine stays off. There is no overheating but the engine is hotter then most trucks when running.

My Audio Q7 had throttle delay issues soon after purchase. The service department at the dealer told me all tests were normal and returned the car. Problems continued, especially at low speeds. There is typically a delay of about 3 seconds before the car responds and when it does I have the pedal to the floor and the car lunges forward. One delay was about 6 seconds. On one occasion I was turning left into a busy intersection and the delay occurred. An oncoming car had to brake to avoid hitting me broadside. The problem is intermittent but occurs almost daily at least once. It can occur from a dead stop but more frequently occurs at low speeds. I took the car back to the Audi dealer and was given a q8 as a loaner. This loaner q8 also had the same problem. I could minimize the problem by turning off the auto start stop button and driving the car in s mode. This had not helped the problem with the Q7. An acquaintance of mine bought a q8 recently and has had the same issue two times. I had the issue about 10 times with the loaner q8 and hundreds of times with the Q7. I feel unsafe driving the Q7 and have parked it in my driveway. I do not plan to drive it again. At this point I do not know what I will do with it. I purchased another vehicle to drive instead.
My 2019 Audi Q7 has throttle delay problems that have resulted in near accidents more than once due to no response of accelerator until 3 or 4 seconds after depressing gas peddle when attempting to merge into traffic. The dealer could not duplicate this problem which has occurred randomly over the past year of ownership.
Crankshaft pulley ripped itself apart at idle after vehicle was started.
Tl-the contact owns a 2019 Audi Q7. The contact stated that after stopping the vehicle, the contact was unable to shift the vehicle into park. The contact activated the parking brake, exited the vehicle to remove a child from the rear seat , the car doors locked independently. The contact was unable to unlock the doors using the keyfob. The local law enforcement was called out and was unable to unlock the door. Audi lynbrook, 855 sunrise hwy, lynbrook, NY 11563, (516) 887-5300, was contacted and was able to provide the police the directions on how to manually unlock the vehicle. The manufacturer was contacted and notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 5765. Ah.
The vehicle has experienced increased motor oil consumption in the last two months . The vehicle has used about 3 quarts of oil in less than 2,000 miles. I was told at the Audi of riverside dealer that this common. The vehicle had 98,000 miles when the problem first occurred. Has happened again and it's only been driven 2,000 miles since more oil was added.

The vehicle has performed poorly after completing a us department of justice mandated "fix" of diesel (3. 0 liter tdi, engine code cnrb) emissions equipment related to vw/Audi emissions cheating. There is now sporadic lag in acceleration, especially at low speeds, or accelerating from a complete stop. There were times when I have pulled into oncoming traffic, and the power delivery was non-existent, followed by, after a 1 second delay, rapid over acceleration. There have also been many problems related to the reductant metering module failure that has caused dangerous delays and lags in acceleration.
