Headlight Switch Problems of Audi Quattro

I have a 1999 Audi a4 quatro. I've owned the car for just over 3 years and have had to replace the headlight switch 5 times. The switch is poorly designed. Electrical heat melts a plastic part in the switch causing it to fail and the headlights to stop working. This is a danger due to the potential of fire and also the loss of lighting while driving. I have researched this on the web and I am not the only Audi owner with this issue.

I just recently received a recall notice from Audi of America. In the body of this letter Audi states "what is the problem" what Audi describes as the "problem" is exact while driving east on 28th street in new york city traffic, I noticed smoke coming from the front of the car, by the time I pulled over the smoke was billowing from the wheel wells. I was late for a meeting already so I jumped in a waiting cab and as I did I noticed flames shooting through the wheel wells too. I phoned the nyfd.

The contact owns a 1997 Audi a4 Quattro. The contact stated that the headlight switch failed, which caused the headlights to shut off while driving 35 mph at night. He had to park the vehicle for the remainder of the evening. He was informed that the VIN was not included in NHTSA campaign id number 06e049000 (exterior lighting).
