Audi Quattro owners have reported 3 problems related to tank assembly (under the gasoline fuel system category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.
The Audi cars have a problem with the gas tanks which could lead to explosions. My 2002 Audi has about 100k on it, which is when I started smelling gas. I took it into the dealer in 2008 for a recall, and at that time they serviced a part of the fuel system, for which now there is a recall. Then this year, smelling gas, I had the rings changed, but now smelling gas again, my Audi mechanic says the tank is not repairable. He pulled it as far down as possible and used a scope on it to see if it could be repaired. Now I am looking at about 2k in bills for a new gas tank. I called Audi and asked their advocate about this, asking about if it was related to the recall, and of course he said no, that with high mileage cars gas tanks can give problems. I know of many Audis who have had to replace gas tanks; this is not normal. Audi needs to be investigated for this. I have found many other instances just by googling this problem on the web, and my mechanic, who only works on Audis, has replaced several tanks. He used to be an authorized parts center for Audi so he knows that they are aware of the problem.

The abs control module has malfunctioned and the cost to repair is over $1600. I have been to both an Audi dealer and received the $1600 quote, and to my personal mechanic who said the part is quite easy to replace but expensive to purchase. I have read hundreds of comments from other Audi owners who have experienced this problem. There has been shown a 90% failure rate for this part in Audi's. The car also has an issue with the gas tank where it does not release air from the tank properly and causes too much pressure.

My fuel gauge has failed. I checked with your recall noticed for my car Audi a6 4. 2l 2001, and the sending unit apparently has filed and was recalled. However for my particular engine, no such recall was initiated. The 4. 2 l engine should also be part of this recall. It took my $4,000 to figure out that the problem was the sending unit. The Audi dealership had no idea what the problem was. This is a very serious safety hazard which needs to be addressed ASAP and the recall needs to be extended to cover the 4. 2l engines as well. I was stranded twice on the side of the highway. I had no idea it was because I ran out of fuel because it read half full. Can you imagine what would have happended if it occurred in the middle of the night in the desert. Please make sure this gets recalled!. Worried consumer. Thank you.
