Equipment Problems of Audi S4

I am submitting a formal complaint regarding a persistent and dangerous issue with the mmi (multi media interface) system in my 2020 Audi S4. Since February 2025, the system has been spontaneously rebooting both while the vehicle is idling and in motion. When this occurs, the screen goes black and critical safety systems such as the rearview camera, parking sensors, and navigation become unavailable. The system requires driver interaction to restore functionality once it restarts, creating a major distraction. These reboots now occur every few minutes, severely affecting both usability and safe operation of the vehicle. Initially, this issue happened infrequently (about once every two weeks), but over time it has become constant. Based on extensive online reports from other owners—including threads such as this one on Audiworld: [xxx] appears to be a widespread defect affecting other Audi a4/s4 vehicles of the same year. This malfunction compromises several driver assistance and safety features, and I believe it presents a serious hazard, especially if it occurs during parking, reversing, or navigating unfamiliar areas. The Audi mmi (multi media interface) system plays a crucial role in enhancing safety features by providing a user-friendly interface for managing various driver assistance systems and safety-related functions. These include features like emergency calls, roadside assistance, and the integration of driver assistance systems like adaptive cruise control and collision avoidance assist.

The mmi reboots continuously throughout my drive - whether it is 1 minute or an hour. It does this without a bluetooth connection or wired connection. There is no ability to use hands free calling, listen to the radio, use apple car play, bluetooth, navigation, back up camera, parking assistance… it is startling to have your camera black out on your as your backing up (may back up camera works for about 45 seconds before stopping) I have done a hard reset. This is a problem that I am reading over and over and over again on forums I live nearly 2 hours from a dealer who takes weeks to get into and looking at a huge bill hoping there is a fix soon.

The mmi (multimedia interface) screen goes dead and reboots frequently (every 2-5 minutes) while driving. It is extremely frustrating and distracting. In addition, when the screen blacks out while driving in reverse, the backup camera, back up sensors and cross traffic warning systems do not operate until the system reboots, which can take several minutes. This problem occurs constantly while driving and requires me to re-enter navigation destination while driving. Using carplay for navigation is also affected, as the system reboots whether or not I am using a secondary media source like carplay, and I have to re-enter the destination whenever the mmi reboots. Also the mmi needs me to re-enter user information on the screen with every failure in order to get the system running again, which is very distracting while driving. I am not even able to turn off the screen to avoid the distraction, as it will automatically fail and reboot while turned off. This will turn the screen back on in the start-up mode and cause the radio to turn on randomly. When this happens, the stereo volume will sometimes come back on, and other times it appears to be playing music and radio stations, but the volume control will not work. Then it will randomly come back on very loud. The distractions are unavoidable, as I would be happy to just leave the mmi system off, but it is not possible! please require Audi to fix this problem!!! the dealer/manufacturer does not seem to be interested in fixing the issue, as is evidenced by the many complaints I have found on the NHTSA website.

The mmi spontaneously reboots numerous times while driving. When the reboots happen, the screen goes black, and key systems such as the backup camera, rear obstacle detection, and navigation become unavailable until the reboot completes and the systems reload. Restoring functionality requires user input to get through the loading screens. The issue started in February 2025. I have attempted a factory reset (which did not solve the issue), and I have performed an obd scan, which returned no fault codes. This appears to be a widespread issue based on the numerous reports found on user forums online, affecting the same model year vehicles (for multiple examples, refer to [xxx] ). It is also interesting that most of the users experiencing this issue also report it starting around the same time (Jan/Feb 2025), and they all have similar software versions, and likely production dates. This should be considered a safety issue, as the reboots can happen in the middle of a reverse parking maneuver, and they render the backup camera and obstacle detection sensors completely inoperative until the system reloads. They also impact safety on the highway, as the reboots completely disable the navigation screens and require multiple user inputs to restore, while driving. The engine mounts have gone bad. The dealership says they are leaking and thus have failed. This is a known issue with this model and several other models. The engine mounts fail at around 50000 miles. I've never heard of engine mounts going bad this early in a cars life. Maybe after 100000 miles I would expect for the engine mounts to fail but not at 50000 miles. Many Audi owners have complained about this issue on forums and Audi groups online. This is a safety issue and Audi is not doing anything about this. They are leaving their customers to fix a problem which should not exist.

While driving in traffic, my car dropped into lower gears and stopped moving, and two error codes popped up "gearbox malfunction" and "tpms malfunction". Looking this up online and discussing with my mechanic, this is something happening in a lot of the cars that are this make & model and have the same transmission.

My car is having jerky shifting whenever the vehicle is driver, especially once the engine gets hot. I have had felt the car jerk forward a countless amount of times and have gotten whiplash a couple times where I've been in pain. Transmission on my Audi S4 is giving the same issues as many others have encountered on Audizine. Com and Audiworld. Com, with the same symptoms. Audi needs to rectify this issue and do a recall on all b8/b8. 5 S4 vehicles!.

Driving on the highway at 25 mph, car randomly shows 'gearbox malfunction' and 'tpms' simultaneously. Car drove in limp mode for a few minutes until I was able to come to a standstill and put it in park and turn it back on to drive. 'tmps' sign is still showing. Possibility of being a mechatronic issue, which is very well known as an issue with the 2010+ Audi S4s.

Vehicle flashes a gearbox malfunction warning and most electronics went dead. Vehicle would not accelerate causing me to nearly be rear ended. After turning off car and restarting the vehicle continues to lose power randomly every mile or so. This created very unsafe conditions on a busy freeway. The problem turned out to be a faulty sensor in the transmission. Audi has issued a technical service bulletin on this issue but will not acknowledge the huge safety issue with this defective transmission.

My Audi S4 2010 is having a mechatronic issue. While driving my vehicle down the street it dropped a gear and a error message popped up stating gearbox malfunction: no reverse gear. My vehicle was then unable to reverse and also kept dropping and jumping to different gears. It made a very unsafe and scary drive,I held up alot of traffic trying to drive back to my house. To get a new mechatronic cost betwenn 3-8 thousand dollars. Also there are thousands of Audi owners on the web who are having the same issue. I think Audi should recall this part that is causing so many issues with the vehicle.

Gearbox malfunction light, limited function, car drops to 10 mph with no warning. Car removes drivers ability to control car in situation on highway limp mode is not safe and can not be disabled. Car performs normal except for limp mode sensor known fault.

I have just recently purchased this car from an older man who was very kind to the car. I have had this vehicle for the whole two months when I entered my garage to leave for the day I received a"gear box malfunction, you may continue driving: limited functionality code" I have done my hours of research and have found out this is a simply a problem lot of people are having. This is something Audi is selling on their ccars knowing these have issues!!!!! I want to take further action, Audi should step up and repair all the broken units they have been selling. These units have given 95 percent of Audi owners problems. Really makes me feel like I'll never buy another.

For the passed 2. 5 years, the heating system smells, burns my eyes, gives me a headache, and makes me nauseated. Repeated visits to different Audi dealerships with no change. Issue remains, dealerships state no issue. I was told that exhaust is probably entering via the air system.

Found vehicle leaking engine coolant while parked in garage. Radiator intercooler was at fault. If all or most coolant lost while driving at highway speeds engine may have catastrophic damage to occur with possible injury or loss of life. Vw Audi has known of this issue with the intercooler and has a protection screen (8k0-820-746-c) available for purchase. You need to force Audi to have this item installed on all models affected before owner(s) cause an incident.
