As many others have noticed on the b7 models of Audis. The passenger headlight will flicker and go out at random times, it is not a bulb problem it has been replaced multiple times. It is concerning when driving at night and randomly my headlight will shut off. Sometimes when I shut the car off and back in it will return. There is an electrical problem with these headlights as I have read in other places. Very dangerous and concerning they want to charge 1000+ dollars for every customer to put in a new headlight. It is their duty to ensure safety of their customers.
Takata recall 1. The left headlight flickers. 2. It then turns itself off 3. The message "left dipped headlight" appears 4. This happens while my vehicle is parked and in motion so it is a very serious safety risk. I have had both headlights go out at night while driving with my 2 year old in the car!.

Xenon headlamps wiring all corroded and bare with no insulation left. Check with Audi and they said our vehicle and VIN is not part of any recall. Yet rcorrd-05v096-4498 in your database shows a mofification letter from vw to include our VIN. There is no record according to Audi service shops that show any recall work done to our headlights. I have attached a picture that shows the deteriation of the electrical wiring and headlamps to our 2004 Audi S4. Would appreciate some assistance to having our headlamps replaced for safety reasons.

Driver headlight dipped info on dash. Headlight turns off or flickers till it turns off and must turn all lights off on the car while driving and reset lights to activate headlight back on. Sometimes this does not work and forced to drive with one headlight with is extremely dangerous condition, police have citied me twice for faulty headlight equipment. There needs to be a recall on this issue. There will eventually be a fatality crash involving this issue with dipped headlights on Audi vehicle's. Also this happen's at all speeds from 0 to 70 mph. This issue has been going on for 6 months and going to cause a serious accident soon on i95 in miami as I drive home from work at 0430 a. M.
Both headlights shutoff while driving at night and would not come back on. Bulbs are still in good condition. Error code 'dipping headlight' this is a known safety problem with Audi and is extremely unsafe for the driver and other vehicles on the road.
Bought this car from dealer, used, low mileage, great car. Headlights were filled with condensation. Dealer said to dry them out and re-seal them. That didn't work. There is still water in both headlights. It hasn't rained and has not been humid outside. Pulled over the first night and told they were a safety concern and needed to get them fixed, luckily just a warning issued, no ticket. I can't see at night with the amount of condensation/water that has accumulated in both headlights. This should be a problem that Audi recalls. It's not safe due to decreased visibility, no visibility at times, and the car won't pass the state inspection until this problem is fixed. Obviously there is no warranty and the dealership totally blew off my concerns telling me some bs story about how to fix it myself because their labor rates were so high. This vehicle is not safe to operate with defective headlights and I really hope Audi addresses this issue. Bought a car and can't even pass inspection to drive it, worthless vehicle and money sitting in the driveway. Not happy.
As I was driving on the freeway my headlight went out with and the message, "right dipped headlight" came on. When this happen I stopped to fill up with gas and when I started the car the message was gone and the headlight was back on. This has happened a several more times since then.
Right front headlight flickers and fails. Vehicle must be shut off and restarted in order to get headlight working again.
The contact owns 2005 Audi S4. The contact stated that the hid headlights would intermittently flicker. The contact also stated that both headlights would dip and as result, an error light was illuminated. The failure recurred at various speeds. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 65,000. The VIN was not available.
Front headlights flicker then go out. Bulbs are not burned out this seems to be a electrical or computer issue. Throws a code of dipped front head light alternates between left and right headlight on any given day. Seems like this has been a big issue for Audi between 2006 and 2008 however no recall has been made. This is a safety issue and should be warranted do to the fact it cant be fixed by changing the bulbs.
The contact owns a 2005 Audi S4. The contact stated that while driving 70 mph, the headlights became dim with low visibility. The vehicle was taken to a dealer and the headlights were diagnosed with having a reflector failure. The vehicle was not repaired and the manufacturer was been of the issue. The approximate failure mileage was 70000.
Right headlight flickers and goes out repeatedly.
Headlights dip and go completely dark. Turned off and after a short time period headlight comes back on.
While driving, the right headlight flickered and went off (hid lights). The information system registered an error "dipped right headlight" head light comes on when ever the car is started, and goes out with the same error again at a later time. So far this error has occurred the last 3 times I have driven (all three times since first occurence). This is a safety issue since night illumination is involved. I have read on internet Audi websites that this is an all too common problem, that Audi of America is not taking seriously as far as offering a clear solution.
The headlights flicker, then the dash says they are dipping, then they go out. If you stop the car turn it off then back on the lights come back on, only to do it again. There seems to be wide spread reports of this happening with these Audi's and the hid lights.
Happens all the time "right dipped headlight" "left dipped headlight" dealers refuse to fix it even though it keeps happening to all their cars. It's a safety issue not wear and tear. Headlights keep failing regardless if you replace them or not. I have replaced the entire assembly and this issue still keeps happening.
This issue affects Audi a4 and S4 vehicles with hid headlights. One or both of the headlights repeatedly fails while driving. This is not an issue with the headlight bulb. If the operator turns off the ignition after one or both of the headlights fails, and then immediately restarts the car, both headlights will operate properly. The issue occurs primarily within the first 5 to 10 minutes after starting the car. Once the car has been "warmed up", operating for more than 10 minutes, the issue does not reoccur. The specific scenario: I will start my car. Both of the headlights initially seem to be operating properly. Within a minute, one or both of the headlights will begin to flicker, and one or both of them will fail, causing a "headlight dipped" warning on my dashboard. The issue often occurs during braking, acceleration or when the car goes over a bump. The issue may occur with either the left or the right headlight or both lights, resulting in a severely unsafe condition. Restarting the car will cure the problem but it often reoccurs until the car has been driven for at least 10 minutes. This issue occurs almost every time I drive the car with the headlights on, usually every day, or at least several times per week. Moisture (rain/car wash) does not seem to make the issue worse. Audi of America is aware of the issue and has issued several technical service bulletins about the issue, but will not pay for repairs unless the vehicle is under warranty. Audi has not identified a specific repair technique that will definitely fix the issue. The repair attempts include replacing the light bulbs, replacing the hid ballasts and/or control modules, and installing shims around the light housings to quell the vibration that may be a cause of the issue. It is a trial-and-error repair process and it is very expensive for a vehicle that is out of warranty.
Condensation build-up in headlight housing on various Audi vehicles that does not dissipate regardless of weather or duration of hid lights being on.

Hello - I have an Audi 2005. 5 Audi S4 avant that the headlights continue to dip and go out while driving. Good thing both it hasn't happened to both at the same time. I'm able to turn off and turn on an generally they will come back on, other times not.
Dipped headlight issue. The event is happens almost every night and multiple times. My headlights of my 2006 Audi S4 continue to go out as I drive often at highway speeds. This is a common complaint which Audi has chosen not to fix. Their multiple service builitins never fixed the issue and now that my car is out of warranty they chose to replace cars headlights with this issue. I only have under 50,000 miles on the vehicle. This is a serious concern and one that could lead to a accident and death. This is my 9th Audi as well.
The contact owns a 2005 Audi S4. The contact stated that while driving approximately 10 mph, the headlights began to flicker and suddenly shut off. The vehicle was stopped and shut off. After restarting, the headlights functioned properly. The failure occurred intermittently and occurred while parked or while driving at different speeds. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where the mechanic was unable to diagnose the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 110,000.
Headlights flicker and shut down. This occurs mostly under deceleration but can frequently occur during acceleration and turning. Headlights run normally under steady state speed or at rest. Dealership claims no issue. Independent Audi specialist has confirmed the problem and swapped bulbs (left-right) without effect. This has been occurring for over four years and getting progressively worse, to the point that each time the car is driven the lights need to be re-ignited a minimum of 5 times during a 30 minute drive. Safety issue as lights turn off at nearly all braking situations and driver must divert attention to controls to re-illuminate.
My headlights flicker almost all the time and occasionally go off as a result. This problem has been widespread as literally hundreds of people in the Audi online forums are reporting the same exact issue. Once one or both headlights go out, I get an error message stating "left headlight dipped", "right headlight dipped", or both. Once the car is turned off and restarted, light comes back on. They still flicker and go out again at random intervals and random sides (left and right). There should be a recall in place as it costs many hundreds of dollars to repair, and many times, the repair doesn't fix anything. It is so widespread, it has reached epidemic proportions and it has become a real safety hazard. This problem effects a wide range of Audi models and years as reported by hundreds of other people experiencing the same issues of various years and models. It is also grounds for a traffic violation in my state as well as most others. Additionally, the car needs to be turned off, headlights turned off, then restarted in order to restart the headlight. This action presents a myriad of safety concerns itself as this happens at random times during traffic. With the regularity of this problem across many years and models, Audi should be held accountable and perform the repairs at their expense as this is clearly a design or implementation flaw.
Headlamp or headlight dip problem on Audi S4 with hid lights. Cannot be fixed by Audi. This is a safety issue.
The xenon headlights in my S4 go out as the car is in motion. The light may flicker. The headlight may "dip. " the light shuts off and I have to stop the car and shut off the lights and then turn them back on for the light to reignite. The bulb and control unit was replaced under warranty. Now two years later the same thing is happening. It seems to be a very common problem with Audi's (based on forum discussion).
Right headlight sporadically shuts off (I. E. Dips) while driving. You have to turn both lights off and on when you are driving to make it function again. It is always the right headlight and sometimes will function properly for a month and then malfunction several times in one night. This is a safety hazard especially when you need to reactivate the light while in traffic at high speeds or when the driving conditions are poor. This has been happening since I purchased the car in the summer of 2010.
I have a 2005 Audi S4 and my headlights flicker and go out while driving almost every time I have them on. Sometimes it is one and sometimes both and I get a message on my dash board that the affected headlight is dipped. If I turn the lights off then back on the affected headlight will usually come back on. Sometimes that doesn't work and the car has to be turned off and restarted. Headlights turning off while driving at night is a very dangerous situation. When I brought it to the attention of the Audi dealership they say they can't duplicate the problem.
In the rain/snow, condensation/large water droplets/water forms on inside of headlight lens assembly reducing effectiveness of headlight and reduce visibility in poor lighting condition (night/snow/rain). Was told by Audi USA/dealers that there is a TSB for this problem but refuse to fix defect under cpo warranty. Was told by nys inspection station that it may not pass safety inspection due to defect in headlight because it is not safe to operate car with defective headlight and decrease lighting power leading to reduce visibility. Owner since 1/2010 cpo.
Several intermittent headlight malfunctions: headlight flickering as well as headlight shutting off. Have owned the car for 2 years. The right headlight has malfunctioned (turned off), with no consistent cause apparent. The specific error message that appears in the driver information screen is "right headlight dipped". This condition is both unsafe, and illegal - I have been pulled over by police as a result of this. It can occur several times per trip, then not occur at all for some time. Problem is intermittent and sporadic. The headlight flickers, then goes out, but will come back on when the car is restarted. The dealership has been notified of the problem on at least 3 visits, and has claimed that everything is fine and they can not reproduce. They have suggested/guessed that it is the xenon light bulb itself, and replaced the bulb on one occasion. Anecdotal evidence (conversational, and via internet owners' forums) suggests that the problem is widespread among a substantial portion of Audi's model range and years.
Just purchased a formerly certified 2006 Audi S4 w/ 46k miles and factory xenon lights. When I turn my headlights on, the right xenon light goes out intermittently, and I get a "right dipped headlight" message on the information display. The right headlight stays off until I turn the car off. Usually when I restart the car the, the headlight is fine. The problem is dangerous because the light turns off without warning, so far it has only happened on one side, but I am concerned it will affect both lights. Dealer states they have encountered the problem before, and that replacing the ballast will address it.
"intermittent headlight malfunction. Over the course of ownership, the right headlight has malfunctioned (turned off), with no consistent cause apparent. The specific error message that appears in the driver information screen is "right headlight dipped". This condition is both unsafe, and illegal - as many states will issue a traffic violation for driving with a non-functioning headlight. It has happened about 7-8 times, the headlight flickers, then goes out, but will come back on when the car is restarted, then be fine for weeks or months at a time. The dealership has been notified of the problem on at least 3 visits, and has claimed that everything is fine and they can not reproduce. They have suggested/guessed that it is the xenon light bulb itself, however it has checked out fine each time, and as mentioned, has functioned flawlessly after each occurrence with merely a restart of the vehicle. No parts have been repaired or replaced, however they have claimed to perform a visual inspection of the electrical connections on at least one visit. Anecdotal evidence (conversational, and via internet owners' forums) suggests that the problem is widespread among a substantial portion of Audi's model range and years. ".
Audi: headlight vibration, 2005. 5 S4. Under certain operating conditions, such as at idle, vibrations or resonances in the front of the vehicle can cause the headlights to vibrarte and turn off. Happens most frequently when car is starting up or cold. Can spontaneously flicker or turn off while driving at night. Occurs about 1 out of 3 times while driving at night. Asked dealer to look at it, said there was no issue.
When driving my 2006 Audi S4 at night, one or both of the right or left front dipped headlights will flicker, and then temporarily fail. . Read more...
I just purchased a 2005 Audi S4 with only 30,000 miles. The car is in exceptional condition and I am very pleased. However, both headlight units contained considerable condensation. It seriously reduces my ability to clearly see at night. Last night was the first time I had to use my lights and I had to keep checking to see if they were on. After discussing the issue with my local Audi service department, I was told that is normal. They said to take it home and let it run for an hour with the lights on. Also if I had a hair dryer, that might speed up the process. This was originally a $45,000 - $50,000 car and I am expected to "dry" the headlights every time it rains?.
