Steering Problems of Audi S5

Steering defective - do not drive vehicle warning on cluster. Almost impossible to turn steering wheel. Thank goodness did not happen at highway speed. Only 50k miles. Ymm not one in the extended warranty that was offered by Audi with this issue. Needed $4k whole new steering rack assembly which was on its 8th revision. Other mult posts with same issue. Audi should expand their help with this issue. Dealership that fixed it was top notch.

The lever that locks and unlocks the steering column for proper driving position fell off. The single bolt holding the lever fell out followed by the lever. This occurred when the driver utilized the lever to reposition the steering wheel. The steering wheel was not locked into position when the lever fell off, so the steering wheel was subject to movement while driving.

Hello - my 2016 Audi S5 coupe with a manual transmission has had an electronic steering rack error for some time now. The issue arose after driving in rainy conditions (but not in standing water). The steering rack in my car provides electronic assistance to my steering wheel movements while driving. The control module for the steering rack is located on the bottom car's motor with three electrical plugs for power and steering. These plugs are not weather proof. As a result my steering rack has been experiencing an issue and an error is present in the car's ecu. A quick search online about this issue shows the rack is widely used across multiple Audi platforms and has not been recalled or remedied by Audi.

While driving at highway speeds, there is resistance at the 12 o'clock position in the steering. This resistance causes the driver to over correct and makes it difficult to keep the car driving in a straight line. This issue has been reported as the 'notch' feeling in then electric steering to dealer and manufacturer and was told no fix is available.
