4 Electrical System problem of the 1999 BMW 323

Failure Date: 06/15/2017

My central door locking system does not work, resulting in none of the passenger doors will not open when locked. So all passengers are trapped in the back seat and front passenger seat. The driver door can be opened from the inside and with a key from the outside. I have reached out to BMW and they wrote a report but said the 1999 year model would probably not be covered. In no way should passengers not be able to exit an automobile during an emergency. I can not drive the car with passengers. To repair this problem is estimated at $550. 00. This happens when it is parked and motor on or off.

5 Electrical System problem of the 2007 BMW 323

Failure Date: 06/30/2016

My 2007 BMW 323i (canadian version of the 328i) caught fire while it was completely stationary in a parking lot last summer. The car was mechanically and cosmetically pristine with no modifications at all other than a set of aftermarket wheels. I owned the car for a couple of years and never had any issues with it and never had to get any major mechanical work done that could have been done wrong and led to this incident. The day the fire happened I got into the car and it started, idled and ran perfectly, as it has since my ownership. I drove it for about 20 minutes then parked it in a crowded parking lot. No electrical devices were plugged into any outlet inside the car and the car was shut off completely. I came outside and my car was completely incinerated. As the abc article states, BMW gave me "the cold shoulder".

6 Electrical System problem of the 2008 BMW 323

Failure Date: 10/01/2014

When I was told that my driver signal is not working, I brought it to the dealer, I was informed that not only the contact between the light socket and assembly was burned and melted, but there was also damage to the assembly, so I need to change the whole headlight assembly, I was very shocked, because my car only has 27030 miles, and the headlamp assembly was suddenly burned. I did not know about this as the warning light on the dash board did not specify which light was it for. I thought this is an important safety issue, and I was only notified about this by passengers crossing who told me they do not know I was turning left. I know BMW is currently handling electrical related problem, such as tail light malfunctions and car on fire.

7 Electrical System problem of the 2000 BMW 323

Failure Date: 10/04/2011

The door locks of my car are electronically controlled via remote and a button on my center console. The gm5 door locking module has intermittent issues, one of which will not allow you to lock or unlock the doors while you are in the vehicle. In an emergency or accident one would not be able to exit the vehicle using the unlock button or remote.

8 Electrical System problem of the 2000 BMW 323

Failure Date: 07/09/2011

After having the control arm bushings replaced and a 4 wheel alignment completed at a BMW service dealership in tyler, TX, apparently the steering angle sensor (located at the bottom of the steering column) failed which caused the dynamic stability control (dsc), brake and abs lights to illuminate. When the incident occurred, I was driving 70 mph on a dry highway using the cruise control. When this sensor failed, all three lights illuminated and the cruise control ceased to work. According to the BMW service department, there is no requirement to re-calibrate the steering angle sensor after an alignment is completed. Additionally, per the service manager at the BMW service department, they are replacing steering angle sensors in a variety of BMW automobiles at "3 to 4 per week". Estimated cost to repair is between $500 - $1000.

9 Electrical System problem of the 1999 BMW 323

Failure Date: 07/10/2010

I am the original owner of a 1999 BMW 323i, purchased new and which today has a little more than 72,000 miles on it. 1. No specific event(s) other than normal driving conditions seem to lead up to the failure; 2. The failure is that the right rear tail light bulb repeatedly burns out, requiring replacement, a failure that has occurred at least twice each year over the last 11 years. The consequences are that I have been received warnings and/or citations, some costly, when I have been unable to have the bulb immediately replaced. Other consequences of a financial nature include paying much more than I should have over the years to repeatedly have the bulb replaced. In addition, I have actually purchased this specific type of bulb, which I keep in my car in the event a repair shop doesn't have one on hand; and, 3. What was done to, temporarily (since, for the past 3 days, the bulb is burned out again), correct the failure: the tail light bulb has been replaced countless times over the years, at least twice a year, by different mechanics including those at the BMW dealership. I would like to add that in the last 11 years, not one of the other bulbs has ever needed to be replaced, and that where asked for "approximate incident date", I am listing this year's date rather than the first year I owned the car since this is the time of the report.

10 Electrical System problem of the 2000 BMW 323

Failure Date: 07/31/2008

The doors do not unlock if they are parked in the sun in temp. In excess of 80-85 degrees. The door central locking does not work with either the keys (twice clicks to unlock all the doors). Once the drivers side is opened it takes 1/2 hour of air conditioning blast to have the system cool down and allow the unlocking with the button or the remote.
