Eight problems related to steering have been reported for the 2002 BMW 325. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Ignition selaniod isn't working. When I turn the key to start the car, the ignition thinks the car has started, but the engine doesn't turn over. It takes multiple tries to get the car to start.
Right/front cv boot (axle boot) is torn and leaking. Dealership replaced it.
We purchased our BMW 325 new in 2002. This car has been garage kept and well cared for. The vehicle has only 70,000 miles on the car. This car is now on it's 3rd set of control arms on the vehicle. I have heard this is a common problem but BMW refuses to issue a recall or service notification. Obviously the parts that are being used to replace the previous parts are defective. We have been told that they are "official" BMW parts. If this defect was not discovered and failed at slower or at highway speeds it could cause life threatening injuries or worse. Additionally the fix is very expensive to repair. Can you look into this?.
The front left outer axle boot cracked and grease was spilling on the ground. Dealership replaced cv boot (axle boot).
I noticed a cracking sound coming from the right front wheel when making a left turn. Dealership technician noticed noise on right/front side. Checked the front end and found right/front sway bar mount is loose. Retightened right/front sway bar assembly and checked left/front sway bar. Retightened.
Heard squeaking noise when driving over bumps and driving slow, also when making turns. Dealership technician checked the front end after road testing the vehicle. Found that both drive axles lost all lubricant; right/front inner and outer c/v joint was contaminated. Removed both front strut hub assembly and lower control arms from axles, removed and replaced both front complete axle assembly. Reinstalled front end components which were removed.
Noticed that when driving on curvy roads it feels like riding on a rough road patch or feels like braking. Dealership technician found defective torque converter and filter. No fault in memory. Removed and exchanged torque converter. Removed transmission oil pan and replaced transmission oil filter and oil and flushed all transmission cooling lines.
Follow-up to November 20, 2003 correspondence to mr. Sean haggard of BMW of north America regarding the steering wheel locking on three occasions. The vehicle was taken to the dealer on two occasion to rectify the problem. Each time the vehicle was inspected no problem was found therefore the vehicle was returned to the consumer. (nar).
