36 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 12/01/2013

The passenger side airbag light has come on notifying that the airbag is disabled. There are recalls on the same model/year BMW as mine but my particular VIN is not included. I spoke to a BMW rep who said the recall could be based on the particular seats and not necessarily the VIN. But she told me it only applies to the sport seats and not the standard seats which I have. According to my research online, the problem seems to be with a seat mat sensor which was faulty. Also, the NHTSA has a complaint already listed under 08v384000.

The contact later received a recall notice for NHTSA campaign number: 13v564000 (air bags) for the same failure. The contact was informed that parts were not available to repair the vehicle. The local dealer (hoffman BMW in watertown, CT) was notified of the failure. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 55,000.

There are numerous tsbs & recall for this problem. Mechanic called BMW to see if there is a recall, yes, 10 years/unlimited miles. I called BMW gave them my VIN. . . But, no luck, my 2006 is not part of the recall, but, yet other 2006 BMW are. Action needs to be taken against BMW, as I have seen many complaints like mine and as you can see, I have documentation from my mechanic. This is a hazard to all who have 2006 BMW 325 I's I was quoted it would cost me $700 to fix.

BMW of north America refuses to cover the repair even though there are reports of passenger side air bag defects in prior model 3 series bwms. 50 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2012

The passenger air bag light started going on and off when a passenger is and is not sitting in the passenger seat. The defect is clearly the seat weight sensor that many others have cited. This is a significant safety issue. I called the dealer, and like many others, I was told my vehicle was not covered under NHTSA campaign id number: 08v384000. The dealer wanted to charge $125 for the diagnosis and $1500-1700 (estimate) to replace the seat mat. All the cost is was going to be the owner's responsibility. Mileage is currently 71k. I'm hopeful this compliant helps push the NHTSA and BMW to extend the recall to all 2006 325i models so owners don't have to absorb the high cost of a serious safety and design defect that could lead to a serious injury or death.

Air bag light goes on, indicating malfunction on passenger's front seat. This problem is very well known with BMW car and a recall was already made. 55 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2011

A few weeks ago when I was driving with a passenger my airbag light came and all sorts of cautions popped up on my I drive about the passenger air bag and seat belt restraints. Later on that day when I did not have a passenger with me everything was fine. Now almost every time I have a passenger with me the light comes on. From all the research I have been doing on this was a recall for this same exact problem but only on the early model 2006 325i. So I called BMW USA earlier today gave them my VIN and my 2006 325i was not apart of the recall! which I do not understand because the recall should have covered all the 2006 because there were a lot more cases of this happening to even the late model 325i. So is there any way my VIN can be added to the recall so I can get this safety issue resolved?.

56 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 04/19/2011

When a passenger sits in the passenger seat, the airbag light will illuminate on the dash. BMW says there was a recall and extended warranty issued, but not for my VIN number. I fear that they did not recall all of the cars that would be affected by the faulty airbag sensor mat. I have no other option than to pay $2,000 to have the mat replaced. The service assistant even told me that it was the same issue that the recalled/extended warranty cars were having with the seat mat. I do not understand why they would not recall all of the affected vehicles. It is a major safety issue.

57 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 04/13/2011

The air bag light came on and I called BMW customer relations. They told me to take it to a BMW dealer to have the front seat occupant protection mat replaced under an extended warranty (NHTSA campaign number 13v564000). The BMW dealer in scottsdale said it isn't listed as a recall item and they want $180 just to perform a check to see if there is a problem, which is ridiculous there should be no fee at all to fix such an important safety item (airbag).

Failure Date: 09/09/2010

I purchased the 2006 BMW in 11/2009/ I had a notice online last month about the voluntary airbag re-call. The notice was in red on the top of my payment page. When I contacted the dealer about the condensation and mentioned this to them. Then I contacted the BMW and they said it is not one of the vehicles 30 days later. Recall# 08v384000. . This is very strange. Everytime I place my purse on the front passenger seat the light for the front-passenger airbag lights up. It only turns off when I remove my purse. BMW states that my vehicle was not involved. I did not receive any notice except for the warning message on my account last month. I purchased the vehicle certified pre-owned in 11/2009.

68 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2007

2006 BMW 325i, VIN #wbavb13546pt16835. Beginning in 2007 the sensor for the passenger air bag has been off, regardless of the weight of the passenger. Current recall states that my model vehicle is not covered for the recall of the front passenger airbag seat sensor mat, but if it went out after only one year it would appear that it, too, is defective. I was never contacted by BMW about a recall since my vehicle is not listed as being defective, but it clearly is. I'm certain that I am not the only 2006 BMW 325i owner that has had this issue, and the recall should be extended to all models, not just the sport seat model. The indicator light indicating that the seat belt is off remains on constantly, regardless of the weight of the passenger.
