I have a 2003 325i when coming to a stop with the foot on the brakes (lightly), as the transmission downshifts I can hear a thud/clunk coming from the rear end of my car along with a increase in the rpm's. I also hear it as soon as I let off my foot of the gas pedal or accelerate causing my car to not drive properly and my transmission to hit my suspension very hard. So, I've searched this issue and other BMW forums and found that other people had the same complaints and this exact problem which is dangerous & very scary.
I marshal brister and courtney duncan were on a local back road in our town when my rear frame member on the driver side had snapped and pulled us into the oncoming side of the road into a large ditch where we took out a fence post and clipped a fiber optics line indicator post then into a colbert the airbags did not deploy on my front window post nor on my door the front driver steering wheel and passenger dash board airbags didnt deploy until after I marshal brister hit the steering wheel and after passenger courtney duncan hit the dash board. After deployment the airbag module started sparking then caught on fire we both put out the fire before exiting the vehicle then patiently waited for the local mccomb ms police to arrive then we called the local wrecker service to pull our BMW from the ditch then had it hauled to the local wrecker yard for pickup at a later day for a fee for storage and initial tow. I do not know if the rear frame was due to a manufacturing flaw or due to a prior owner but that was what caused the accident. The airbags on the other hand did not deploy at the proper time causing us to become slightly injured but not hospitalized but most defiantly dazed and confused for the most part. . . . I also have more pictures of the the accident report.

Driving the car the front driver wheel axial system fell off where the ball bearing held the wheel on 3/4" ball bearings fell off the car, and the other side was ready to fall apart as well I was driving and as I turned into the auto shop driveway the wheel fell apart good thing my teenage daughter was not driving it on the highway or expressway.
The contact owns a 1999 BMW 325. The contact stated that while driving at 45 mph, the vehicle jerked violently into the direction of the sloping road. The sub frame remained partially detached from the vehicle causing the suspension not to properly support the vehicle's movement. In addition, upon acceleration, the sub frame of the vehicle jerked up and down. The contact stated that the brake rotors were damaged on the vehicle due to the rear axel pulling on the rear tire as a result of the loose sub frame. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure was 117,000.

Bilstein is a maker of aftermarket shocks. The rear bilstein shocks for the BMW 3-series from 1999-2006 are prone to premature failure. Bilstein has updated the part twice in an effort to fix the problem, but the shocks continually fail. There are thousands of premature failures of these shocks in the last five years. Rear shock failure creates dangerous handling problems, loss of braking performance, and damage to the vehicle. Stop bilstein from selling any more of these dangerous shocks! I have had nine rear shocks fail, and bilstein keeps sending out the same part as part of the lifetime warranty.
Vehicle was impacted from rear to front and failed to protect body neck and head from impacting drivers side door. Door design and failure of airbag to deploy caused significant head and neck trauma. Seat belt function tore a/c joint in right shoulder. BMW fails to acknowledge any fault corporate offices non-responsive to inquiries and now be threatened by BMW attorney to have vehicle removed from their lot.

Noticed that when driving on curvy roads it feels like riding on a rough road patch or feels like braking. Dealership technician found defective torque converter and filter. No fault in memory. Removed and exchanged torque converter. Removed transmission oil pan and replaced transmission oil filter and oil and flushed all transmission cooling lines.
: the contact stated while driving at various speeds and on rough roads, the vehicle drives very unsteady. The vehicle drives as if it is riding on the rims. It is very difficult to keep the car on the road and the consumer could not take his hands off the steering wheel. The vehicle was taken to a dealer and was test driven. The dealer was unable to duplicate the problem, therefore no repairs were made. The manufacturer was alerted. Updated 03/28/06.
Sports suspension is causing the tires to pop when the vehicle tends to go over a bump. Taken vehicle to dealer for checkup, and repairs 3 times.
