Differential Unit problems of the 1999 BMW 328

Three problems related to differential unit have been reported for the 1999 BMW 328. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Differential Unit problem

Failure Date: 09/08/2004

Under normal driving I started to hear and feel a 'clunk' type noise when engaging the car into gear. Took the car to my mechanic to inspect and he found some cracks in the rear subframe along with the differential mounts being pratically torn off.

2 Differential Unit problem

Failure Date: 08/15/2003

Differential mounts to frame have 'torn away' @ 40k miles and a second time @ 60k00miles. BMW is fixing it a 2nd time and covering cost. Car is 4door, manual and otherwise has been the perfect car. Estimated time to fix at BMW is 4-5 weeks.

3 Differential Unit problem

Failure Date: 09/01/1999

Manula drivetrain replaced twice, differential once and problem continues.
