37 problems related to other fuel system have been reported for the 2014 BMW 328. The most recently reported issues are listed below. Please also check out the statistics and reliability analysis of the 2014 BMW 328 based on all problems reported for the 2014 328.
1. ) the bosch cp4 high-pressure fuel pump (hpfp), oem part number 13517824477 / 0445010517, failed catastrophically. This is the factory-installed pump on the 2014 BMW 328d equipped with the n47 diesel engine. Upon failure, the pump's internal cam and roller assembly disintegrated, releasing metal shavings throughout the entire fuel system — contaminating the fuel lines, injectors, fuel rail, and fuel tank. The vehicle will not start. The failed pump and contaminated fuel system components are available for inspection upon request. 2. ) the vehicle experienced a sudden, complete loss of motive power with no prior warning, rendering it unable to start or operate. This type of failure — as documented in NHTSA engineering analysis ea23-001 — is known to also occur while the vehicle is in motion, causing unexpected engine stall at highway speeds with no ability to restart. This creates an immediate risk of rear-end collision, loss of vehicle control, and danger to other motorists. The failure provides no warning to the driver and cannot be prevented through normal maintenance practices. 3. ) yes. The high-pressure fuel pump failure and presence of metal shavings throughout the fuel system have been confirmed by a BMW authorized dealership. The dealer has documented the failure and provided a repair estimate for full fuel system replacement — including the hpfp, injectors, fuel lines, and tank cleaning — at an estimated cost of $10,000–$15,000. BMW of north America has declined warranty coverage citing that the vehicle has exceeded the 120,000-mile threshold under recall 21v-586, despite this being the identical defect covered by that recall. 4. ) yes. The vehicle has been inspected by a independent BMW specialist 5. ) check engine light was present.
Vehicle experienced sudden engine failure while driving due to timing chain failure on n47 diesel engine, a known defect. Loss of propulsion occurred without warning, creating a safety risk.
The primary failure involves the egr cooler system covered under recall 21v-907, with consequential damage to the intake system, including intake air leaks, charge pipe failure, displaced turbo-to-dpf v-band clamp, brittle/cracked fuel lines, and intake system integrity loss. Yes — the vehicle and all affected components are available for inspection upon request the egr cooler internal leak defect and intake system failures create risk of engine overheating, thermal degradation, loss of engine power under boost, exhaust gas leakage, and potential fire hazard, which can cause unsafe driving conditions and sudden loss of vehicle performance the vehicle was presented to a BMW dealership, and the recall defect was acknowledged. The dealer confirmed that any decisions regarding inspection and repair must come from BMW corporate. The dealership refused to inspect or evaluate the recall-related failures pending corporate authorization. No. BMW of north America has not authorized inspection or evaluation. The dealership also refused to inspect the vehicle pending corporate direction. Yes. Symptoms included audible air leaks, intake pressure loss under boost, performance degradation, and component failures occurring both before and after recall repair attempts. These symptoms developed during the period when the vehicle was operating under a known recall-defect condition and continued after recall repair.
While operating a normal speed and tempature, the low pressure fuel retuen lone burst. Fuel sprayed throughout the engine bay to include the exhaust manifold. Had this been a gasoline car a fire could have ensued.
I was driving to work when my engine started sputtering acting like it was about to turn off. I quickly pulled off to the side of the road and as soon as I did, the engine stalled and turned off. I'm lucky that I pulled off the road because if it turned off while on the road I could have caused an accident. The car is no longer able to turn on. I had to get it towed to my work where I had a mechanic look at it. They said they believe the high-pressure fuel pump failed. I researched this online and saw that there is an open NHTSA campaign for it (#21v586000). My car is a 2014 BMW 328d with the n47 engine. It seems that my car would fall under this recall but when I put in my VIN it says it does not have a match for it. How is it possible for my vehicle to be accepted into this recall.
The fuel system has failed. The car shut off in the baltimore harbor tunnel twice completely stopping traffic and creating a very hazard situation. One of those two times the semi truck behind me had to slam its brakes. When the car shuts off you must come to a complete stop and turn the car completely off. After restarting the car is in limp mode with reduced power. The incident has happened about 6 other times. Every time it happens I have feared my safety, especially if there is no shoulder to coast the car in to park. Independent service center has replaced three sensors related to fuel pressure system which did not fix. The vehicle and component has not been inspected by manufacture, police, insurance representatives or others. The manufacture claims there are no recalls on the fuel system of the vehicle. The vehicle has a rebuilt title from a small accident because no parts were available during covid so the insurance wrote the car off. The car was inspected by the state of north carolina and deemed safe for the road. There is no indication that the car is going to shut off. It just cuts power and shuts off. After restarting the car, it will show a check engine light on the cluster and a drivetrain error on the infotainment screen . The error code p0087 fuel/rail system pressure - too low bank 1.
A remedy still has not been offered for the coolant pump.
Faulty fuel injectors , that are known to prematurely fail. The same injectors are covered by BMW for model years 2015-2018 under NHTSA sib 01 09 19. My complaint is my 2014 has the same fuel injectors as the 2015-2018 that are known to be faulty and yet it is deliberately excluded from the same “limited warranty extension “.
Engine coolant pump: the electrical connector of the engine coolant pump could become damaged. Small drops of liquid from the positive crankcase ventilation (pcv) system could drip down onto the electrical connector of the pump. Safety risk over time, this could lead to a short circuit and, in rare cases, a thermal event or a fire. We took it to a car shop and they charged us over $800 fixing something else that was not the issue. We haven’t been able to drive this car for months and it has caused tremendous inconveniences.
I purchased the vehicle with no issues upon driving the vehicle for about 3 months I started having issues with the vehicle overheating and low coolant warning messages one day I was driving home and the engine suddenly started smoking I turned the vehicle off and opened the hood the vehicle had not started ever since. I realized the vehicle has a recall for the engine coolant pump doing further research made me realize a faulty engine coolant pump can cause engine failure by overheating the engine, which can lead to serious damage.
While driving our 2014 BMW 328d the engine misfired then stalled on the highway. This was a very dangerous and frightening scenario trying to push it off of the roadway while my wife and children were inside the car while highway traffic on the I-15 interstate rushes by. I was not able to restart, so we had it towed to our local BMW shop. Diagnosed as high pressure fuel pump complete failure. Metallic debris throughout the entire fuel system, lines, tank filter, injectors, pumps. No check engine light or any prior warning. Many of the components have already been disassembled to determine the extent of damage, and all the components are currently with the vehicle, and available for inspection. The vehicle has been at the shop since the end of June. Some parts were initially ordered then all repairs put on hold while awaiting direction/ recall approval from BMW of north America. 5 months later we are being told this VIN does not qualify for the safety recall. We can not afford the cost of the repairs and they will likely exceed the value of the car. We also need to remove it from storage at the shop it was towed to, and take it somewhere else while this is sorted out.
The car loose power while driving, near stop it pulls hard as it wants to turn off. Have show multiple times the fuel system error and shut off while operating. Is been doing the same problems for years now.
High pressure fuel pump failed while underway causing vehicle to immediately stall in traffic and lock in "park" making it unable to move. Mechanic (werner's european auto) confirmed diagnosis of catastrophic failure of the pump. Part is available for inspection. This part for the gasoline version of the 2014 328 series car is subject to a recall notice but for some reason the notice does not apply to the diesel version of this model. Repair cost is estimated at $11,000 to replace entire fuel system due to metal particles released when the pump broke.
Stall/loss of power while entering highway on ramp. Engine died and would not restart. After inspecting car found the gas tank to be filled with metal shavings which is indicative of a failed high pressure fuel pump. My year make and model vehicle has a recall on the hpfp for the same reason but my VIN was supposedly not affected.
Subject: urgent complaint regarding potential safety hazard in 2014 BMW 328d fuel injector I am writing to report a serious safety concern regarding my 2014 BMW 328d. On about August of 2023, while operating my vehicle, I experienced a sudden and alarming issue that poses a significant risk to both myself and other motorists. As I came to a routine stop, smoke began pouring out from under the hood of the vehicle, obscuring my vision through the windshield. Simultaneously, a strong odor of diesel permeated the interior of the passenger compartment. Concerned for my safety, I immediately investigated and discovered that the fuel injector area was drenched with diesel fuel. Upon further inspection by a qualified mechanic, it was determined that a crack had developed in the fuel injector, causing the leak. This defect not only poses a serious fire hazard but also exposes occupants to toxic diesel fumes, creating an immediate and grave risk to safety. My concern is exacerbated by the fact that this incident appears to be part of a larger pattern of failures in BMW diesel automobiles. I have conducted research and found numerous recalls related to faulty fuel injectors in various BMW models over different years. However, to my astonishment, the 2014 BMW 328d, including mine, has not been included in any such recall despite the clear evidence of a recurring issue with fuel injectors. Given the severity of the situation and the potential danger it poses to myself and others on the road, I urge the national highway traffic safety administration (NHTSA) to thoroughly investigate this matter. It is imperative that immediate action be taken to address this safety hazard, including the consideration of a recall for the affected vehicles. I kindly request a prompt response regarding the steps being taken to address this issue and ensure the safety of all BMW 328d owners.
Driving vehicle home from work and it completely lost power and died. ""drivetrain malfunction" error popped up on the screen. Vehicle would crank but not start. Towed to repair shop. High pressure fuel pump issue is on the radar for 2014 BMW 328d, BMW has recalled less than 12000 cars. My vehicle is not currently on the recall list.
I was in a busy freeway driving & now my 2014 BMW 328 d high pressure fuel failed which caused me to stall and be stuck in the middle of the freeway which also almost made me cause like 10 car crashes it was sorry scary but lucky police helped out and other driver where also caution.
Due to its diesel related scandals, BMW has agreed to extend its diesel emission related components' warranty to 10 years or 120k miles. My 2014 BMW 328d's nox sensor failed in 2022 and I submitted my repair bill for replacing the nox sensor to BMW recently. BMW denied my reimbursement claiming the warranty expired despite the documents I submitted was for a repair done in 2022 with credit card receipts and repair shop copy of work done.
I am having the same exact issues at the models 2015 and up have experienced with the fuel injectors. 2014 wasn’t involved in the extension of the warranty when it experiences the same failures because it’s the same parts. I have 3 fault codes for injectors.
Diesel emissions system is producing an error code due to incorrect coding by the manufacturer for us grade diesel fuel. Check engine light has come on. There are warranties out for the model years just slightly older than mine. I have read many threads with people talking about having the same issue.
High pressure fuel pump failed while BMW dealership mechanic was test-driving car after replacing two tires/oil change/replacing fuel filter/performing fix for recall of egr cooler part; per the service manager at the dealership, metal particles were subsequently found in the quantity control valve, necessitating complete replacement of fuel system. There is a known recall for year, make and model of my car (2014 BMW 328d) for the fuel pump, but apparently my VIN number is not falling under the recall. This issue appears identical to the issue the recall was issued for other cars with this same year/make/model. I have not performed the repair as they are quoting about $17,000 for the fix. There were no warning lights, messages or symptoms of the problem prior to this issue. In addition, they indicated I needed a new o-ring part for the fuel filter they were replacing as it was the wrong part, but they said it had nothing to do with the fuel pump. (service said the o-ring continued to hold and was working as normal, and they recommended putting the correct by part number o-ring in its place so the fuel filter would not have come unsecured from its fitting in the future. They said the issue with the vehicle did not come from the o-ring/fuel filter; it is by their determination based upon the metal shavings in the quantity control valve, caused because the high pressure pump came apart internally and contaminated your fueling system. They said this is due to age. ) they indicated that had the pump failed while I was on the highway or traveling I and/or others could have been seriously injured or killed. No one else has inspected the car at this point and it remains at the dealership for now.
Issue: hpfp high pressure fuel pump is failing resulting in an increasing deposit of metallic shavings within the pump housing and a corresponding deviation in the measured fuel rail pressure. Safety: the vehicle will code and shut down while you are driving. BMW dealership: replaced items other then the root cause hpfp. A new fuel rail and sensors installed at my expense because of dealership decision. 1,000 miles after repair at dealership, codes came back for low pressure and high pressure faults. Warning lamps on and car shut offs while driving. Make and model of car with the same issues but VIN is not on this recall? NHTSA campaign number: 21v586000.
I suffered a breakdown in my 2014 BMW 328d on 26 oct 21 with a drive train malfunction warning. Vehicle stalled and was unable to be restarted. Vehicle was towed to local repair shop, International auto specialist, located in fredericksburg, va, and diagnosed as a high pressure fuel pump failure and calling for the entire replacement of the vehicles fuel system. At the recommendation of my local repair shop, the vehicle was then towed 59 miles to the closest BMW dealership, BMW fairfax, va, for repair. The safety issue I have is that a recall notice (recall campaign #21v-586) was issued by BMW north America in September 2021 for high pressure fuel pump failures affecting 2014-2018 BMW diesel engine vehicles ranging from 3 series, 5 series, 7 series, x3 sav, and x5 sav models. I never received a recall notice for this vehicle, or my 2015 BMW x5d sav, and have been told by BMW fairfax, va, and BMW corporate that my high pressure fuel pump only carries an extended 10-year, 120,000 warranty, even through both vehicles falls within the parameters of the open recall notice issued by BMW north America. Further, BMW fairfax, va has informed me that all other parts damaged by the high pressure fuel pump failure are not covered by the extended warranty and any cost associated with additional repairs is the customers responsibility, regardless of the fact that they will only replace the defective part at the time of failure and not before. How can BMW north America issue a recall notice for a specific group of vehicles, but not include all vehicles that fall within the specifications associated to the recall? this part failure occurred while I was driving in heavy traffic and I was fortunate it did not cause series bodily harm to myself or others. I respectfully request you investigate the situation to determine BMW's liability and inept handling of this recall in order to prevent others from being harmed. Documentation can be provided if necessary. Thank you.
In July 2021 I was driving on a residential street when my vehicle experienced loss of power. The vehicle shutdown and stopped in the middle of the road. Mechanic found metal particles in fuel system that may have been cause by fuel pump failure. It was reported to insurance company. The fuel system was replaced but vehicle continues to have issues with leaks etc.
On my drive home I noticed a strong smell of dizel fuel. Stoped as soon as it was possible . Noticed a fuel was poring to the ground under my engine. Shut it down and call aaa. At the BMW dealership repair shop they found a broken fuel supply line that was rubbing against the vacuum pipe. My car was covered with fuel from engine to a trunk to everything under including muffler ,soaking wet weals and tires, I lost a half tank of fuel in about 5 minutes. It's scare me a lot ,I think it was a miracle it did not catch a fire on 93 degree day, my wife will never sit in this car again. I will feel guilty if I will sell this car to somebody else. Don't know what to do now. What kind of design it is? how fuel line can constantly rub something else? this car just over 70000 miles, garage kept, never been in any accidents, well maintain.
I was told by BMW that my vehicle doesn't qualify for recall 21v-586. However my high pressure fuel pump failed at about 130,000 miles. I am trying to be reimbursed for my cost of parts under the tread act but BMW says my VIN wasn't included by NHTSA. The recall seems to cover all BMW diesels from 2014 to 2018. Please help. While on a red light we were at a dead stop. As the light turned green to turn right I accelerated the gas pedal and the car stalled out in the middle of the road while traffic was flowing. Had to push the car out of the road and had to get the car towed home. Now the car doesn’t turn on it just cranks over.
I have two issues with my 2014 BMW 328d. First, on several occasions while backing up into my driveway on reverse the transmission shifts unexpectedly into neutral. I have to put it into "d" and drive the car forward before the transmission engages again into reverse. The problem is intermittent and occurs about once a month and only while putting the gear in reverse. The second issue is that my vehicle recently failed the CA emissions test. On 11/23/2021 I took the vehicle to BMW of el cajon for an inspection. The dealer diagnosed a problem with the 4 diesel injectors as faulty and issued a repair estimate. After online research on your site NHTSA. Gov, I found that BMW had issued a limited extended warranty of 10 years or 120k miles for the diesel injectors but only for model years 2015-2016, or production date of 7/2014 to 6/2016. My vehicle was produced on 08/2013. I am asking the NHTSA to please investigate why my vehicle's model year/production date was not included in the limited warranty extension considering that is the same production model (f30), and engine (n47t) as those covered in the extended warranty, and is having the same diesel injectors problem. For reference BMW's sib is 01 09 19 issued on 10-11-2019.
At around 70k both nox sensors in my car failed. BMW covered it under warranty, but I'm worried about reliability of this system. It might happen again in future and if it happens after 120k miles BMW won't cover it.
My vehicle currently has an egr problem but for some reason isn't covered under the recall. . . Sometimes my front passenger door will not open! like at all! I will have to hit the unlock button multiple times before I can open the door. My def was filled with the correct fluid at the appropriate time about 1k miles ago. Suddenly as I'm driving down the road a light appeared that says incorrect fluid added no start after xxx miles. Now vehicle will no longer start. After searching the web others have had this issue connected to nox sensor. Taking to shop hopefully covered since nox sensor was just replaced from a recall.
My 2014 surged automatically in a parking lot and the brakes failed repeatedly: it took me over the 4" cement parking lot stopper and into a wall! this was the only way the vehicle would stop! iwill say that just before I had backed out very slowly as I was in a parking lot. I hit somethig, put my foot on the brake, then put car in drive to pull a few feet back into the parking spot. I used very little gas, not necessary of course. BMW engineers examined it and found no error according to their three standard tests. I was told that their tests "may not record something," "could not duplicate my concerns," and that it would take "a more severe impact to record something. " nothing could be tested or recorded for speeds under 35 miles per hour. I got a concussion and the incident cost $ 17,000 (plus loss of car value). BMW did nothing for me so I am out of a BMW for good. I had just put the car in drive to pull back into the parking space I was in. In all fairness I did hit something, stopped, foot on brake put it in drive. There is no way it outght to have surged out of control or failed to stop. I was going less than 5 mph. BMW will do nothing for me except give me a courtesy discount on a different BMW once I've purchased it. Their dealers have offered me less than competitors. I won't buy another one. ## VIN passed ## BMW 328i2014 ##.
Exhaust gas recirculation (egr) cooler recall: contacted BMW customer relations as per recall letter from BMW of n. A. Via email and they left a voice mail that parts have not been available. Recall status also has been stating - "remedy not yet available". Recall was made in oct 25, 2018 and it is nearing 6 months but no solution or repair process has been initiated. Letter states possibility of increased risk of fire could occur if engine intake manifold has small holes due to failure of egr. Kindly please help with this untimely and unreasonable time period of repair lingering without any safety for the driver of this car. Currently no problem has occurred but feeling of driving on borrowed luck and time is not a safe one. Thank you for your help.
While driving at 65 mph or so the vehicle's on-board message center read "drive-train malfunction". I pressed on the accelerator and there was no response. The vehicle was loosing momentum quite quickly which required me to swiftly, but safely to pull over to the roadway edge. This is the third time the issue has presented itself. The first time was a few months from purchasing the vehicle. The dealer found metal shavings in the fuel lines. They replaced the entire fuel system and sent me off. A few months later I took the vehicle in for service I. E. Oil change, inspection, etc. While inspecting my car they again found metal shavings in the fuel lines. They again replaced the entire fuel system and said it was fixed. Just this weekend September 30, 2018, I was driving my vehicle on the freeway and again the car went limp. No power, limited steering control, no response from accelerator. Essentially a catastrophic event because without power a vehicle is a rolling projectile. According to the dealership the vehicle once again has metal shavings in the fuel system. Total count for replacing fuel system (3).
March 6, 2018, my car started shaking as I merged from 101 to 405 s in los angeles. Message indicated a drive train problem and to "drive moderately". Car stopped and would not restart seconds later. While waiting for a tow, was rear ended at a dead stop. BMW santa monica found metals shavings in fuel line and replaced fuel system; my car also had $13,000 of body damage. I have seen many other reports of the same problem - BMW should have recalled the car to fix the fuel system before I had an accident. Now my car is devalued and I do not have same level of confidence in driving it.
I was driving home from work on November 16th and was within a couple miles of my house when I heard a loud bang and a whirring sound coming from my car. There was an error message that popped up stating drivetrain malfunction, drive cautiously. the car became very jerky and I drove slowly. I was fortunate to make it back to my driveway, but then my car completely failed. I had the car towed to the dealership and the called to let me know the transfer case had failed. Thankfully I wasn't injured in a car wreck when the it failed. The car only had about 46,500 miles and was completely covered under warranty. I was fortunate to get home, but a complete failure could have led to being stranded or worse, an accident.
