Seat Belt Problems of BMW 328 - part 1

Passenger restraint system malfunction for the front passenger seat. This may not trigger the airbag for a passenger sitting in the front if a collision occurs and can seriously injure someone. This problem appears to be very common with BMW models within this timeframe. All over car forums and youtube videos, some videos with over 100k views per video. I am not sure how BMW has not recalled this safety issue as it seems to linger throughout many of their models for many years. As soon as the malfuction occured\, the warning sign and lamp lights did flash on.

Front seat passenger side seatbelt warning indicator activates when no person is in passenger seat. Airbag warning light illuminates even when there is a passenger in the seat. I see numerous complaints about the same/similar issues in your data base, but seemingly no resolution or recall. My car is a convertible. I note from other complaints on your website that a related recall was initiated for my year make model but it did not apply to convertible version of this model. That is irresponsible and unacceptable.

Passenger-restraint system this light has turned on and I see that certain BMW’s had recalls on this exact issue. Not sure why my 2013 328i was not included in the recall.

Passenger restraint system malfunction alert when car is turned on. Air bag and passenger seatbelt warning lights are on. Passenger seat belt light will never turn off even with no passengers in the car. Air bags for passenger are off when there is a passenger in the car causing a safety concern. BMW wants $1000 to diagnose what the issue is for the airbag light only but not to fix it or check the seat belt light. Already paid them $100 just to tell me exactly what the message said on the car screen. Seeing the same issue all over the internet with flaws in the passenger restraint system for this model and similar models but no fix. Found an extended warranty but does not list the e92 model, all other models are listed.

I was driving to target and from a stop I was 75% through the turn when a car ran the stop sign and hit my car straight on . The impact was supposed to deploy the airbags but was not deployed due to a malfunction, I was injured in this accident from my neck down my back . My injury claim is still open with the party at fault.

Passenger side seat belt work on and off and passenger side in the back seat belt does not work at all.

The airbag light just turned on on me, I was looking to see if there was a recall on it, but since there isn’t, I want to make sure I’m not the only one with this problem. Also the seat belt light is on, I clicked all seat belts in, and the light remains on.

Hi BMW I have noticed issues with my seatbelts but more specifically my engine light keeps turning on. My driving seat will not buckle. Simple last Saturday.

My mat sensor in my passenger seat is not working properly. Nobody ever really sits in the passenger seat and the light came on stating that someone is sitting in the passenger seat when there is actually nobody sitting in the seat! which means the airbag will not deploy this seems to be an issue with many 09 BMW 328i vehicle’s! I noticed through research that vehicles prior to said year had same issues and was part of a recall. I feel this should also be part of a new recall with this vehicle year.

I have the seatbelt and airbag light illuminated on my car for the passenger. I have researched this issue and it seems to be a common problem on Bmws. It was part of a recall for the 2006 model but nothing past that year. Apparently, it is the sensor that is in the passenger seat that has broken. So the airbag can't sense whether or not a person is occupying that seat.

I had my passenger in the car driving 30mm and then I got a “restraint system warning ?? “ illuminating the seatbelt light and seatbelt with airbag light. This is a safety concern as it is still on without a passenger. This affects the passenger airbag so in the case of fatality this would fall on BMW na for neglecting to fix this issue. The car was fine before and this came out of no where.

I was rear-ended during a traffic slowdown in freeway, while driving my 2014 BMW 328i sedan. Due to the collision, my vehicle’s safety system got invoked, which made the gear automatically go into neutral and the flashers turned on. However, my seatbelt (driver, left-front seat) unbuckled automatically. This caused me to hit the steering wheel during the accident. I didn’t suffer major injury as I had slowed down to less than 20 mph, while the vehicle hit me in the rear (which had also slowed, though didn’t stop on time/didn’t have the distance, and hence the collision). After the collision, when I checked, the socket from which the seatbelt is pulled had got loose, and the belt had a double fold in the buckle, and so it got stuck. It didn’t rollback to its place.

Passenger restraint system malfunction. My vehicle as well as thousands of others have the chronic and unsafe issue of the passenger occupancy sensor malfunctioning. In order to remove warning on dash it’s either a $2,000 repair, or a $40 bypass which basically places the seat as constantly occupied, sticking the passenger airbag in the ‘on’ position. Vehicle is available for inspection. With this malfunction, any person that sits in the passenger front seat is at risk of injury or death in the event of a collision. Malfunction has been confirmed by both a dealer and an independent service center. Vehicle was inspected by the dealer, but no police or insurance company. Vehicle was purchased with the malfunction and the warning lights have been on for several years. With the massive number of vehicles of this make with a range of different mileage, with this issue, a recall is not only needed but warranted and should be mandated with this being a major safety issue.

Unknown since I have bought my 2008 BMW 328i I had one recalled fixed on my dash I have the air bag light and the brake light tire light service engine soon light on my door locks would work some times and then I had to open my car from the driver side manually then my drivers side window won't roll all the way up only half way then my car just wouldn't start out of the blue replace the starter ran for three weeks and wouldn't start again and has been sitting for a month now my passenger seat belt won't click in sometimes and my warranty is out but the recalls I have read are just what my car is doing I would like this matter to be looked in to and my car repaired at no cost its a safety issue an inconvenience and has cost me money wise extremely .

Air bag light malfunction passenger side.

Received display notification of "passenter-restraint system: fault in airbag, belt tensioner or belt fore limiter. Continue wearing safety belt. Consult nearest service center. " upon taking to service center, they mentioned there was no recall for airbag. Peace of mind placed at risk.

I got a passenger restraint failure light on my vehicle all of a sudden. Said lights turned on as I was turning to enter the highway route 2 in fitchburg MA. I have heard that this is an ongoing issue with Bmws since mid 2000s yet mines is not on recall. I have tried everything but can not correct the error. I am concerned of an airbag malfunction in the event of an accident. Hoping you can assist me with this issue.

Airbag lights keep going off, saying "fault in passenger restraint system affecting airbag, belt tensioner, or belt force limiter. Continue to wear a seat belt. Please contact the nearest BMW center. " or "function of the airbag, belt tensioners, and belt force limiters faulty. Ensure the seat belt is fastened despite the fault. Have the problem checked by the nearest BMW service center". These lights come on everytime the car is started, dealerships cannot figure it out, and any attempt to clear the code does not work.

Sensor warning states passenger airbag and passenger seatbelt is not on.

It started happening here and there, while no one is in the passenger seat, it is saying seat belts need to be on and an airbag light, after a little while of driving the airbag light sometimes goes off but seat belt light will stay on. Even when someone is in the seat with their seat belt on - both of those lights are on seat belt and airbag. I'm scared if I get in an accident the airbags wont deploy. I'm also seeing I'm not the only BMW with this issue. Why is there no recall when this can cost someone their life. No cars airbag system should just go.

Over the course of the last 2 months I get an oc3 passenger seat mat error. I noticed that there is an extended warranty for this but my car isn't covered.

Passenger front seat fasten seatbelt signals when I'm driving and no-one is in the front seat, I have to lock seatbelt to turn it off. It hasn't signal lately. Driver's door locks and won't unlock when I'm parked unless I use the remote but, not all of the time. Breaks squeaks only when I first exit the garage at home.

The car has a short draining battery all the dash lights came on the blower moter smelt like fire when turned on. Scan tool wont connect to obd2 says no communication air bags restraint lights came on . I beleive your recalls were not done and cause a massive failure that would be considered dangerous conditions to operate vehicle under.

Drivers side seat belt receptacle will not accept buckle. Fasten seat belt warning does not sound.

Tl the contact owns a 2013 BMW 328i. The contact stated that the brake pedal was depressed and traveled to the floorboard. Also, the contact heard an abnormal bumping noise and the vehicle hesitated upon starting. When the vehicle was restarted, it resumed normal operation; however, the seat belt warning indicator illuminated. The contact called BMW of henderson (261 auto mall dr, henderson, nv 89014, (702) 570-0278) and BMW of las vegas (6900 w sahara Ave, las vegas, nv 89117, (702) 570-0279) and was informed that the vehicle was not covered under a warranty. The manufacturer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was 39,000.

The seat belts on the back seats stop working after I reach 6500 miles.

My car has 66k miles on it and about a month ago, the seatbelt and airbag indicator lights showed up on the dash. This may or may not be related to the fact that the seatbelt ding goes off when there is nothing in the seat if the seat was hot due to sun exposure. The heat panel was replaced a few years back for the incessant dinging, but returned a few months ago. The passenger side seatbelt ding goes off intermittently and the indicator light for the airbag and seatbelt are constantly on while the car is on.

Restraint system faulty warning came on.

Received a recall notice for a blower motor wiring issue (17v-676) and an extension in limited warranty for the supplemental restraint system. BMW north America said they could not see the vehicle in there system and could not initiate repairs until it was. I purchased the vehicle in tennessee on 3/23/16, but saw in the carfax report that it was originally purchased overseas.

As soon as the vehicle is started a warning will pop up for �passenger restraint system malfunction� caused by the seat occupancy sensor failing on the front passenger seat. The warning will stay on and not go away. A previous recall for similar year models has been announced but it didn't cover all affected vehicles due to similar sensors being used across all these year models. BMW wants to charge 1000+ dollars for this sensor repair due to them saying this is an �unaffected vehicle�. Without this sensor working properly, in the event of a collision, the passenger airbag could not deploy which can cause serious injury or death. BMW refuses to do anything about this without a recall announced, or without thousands of dollars being spent just for the safety of my passengers.
