Side/window Air Bag problems of the 2004 BMW 330

Seven problems related to side/window air bag have been reported for the 2004 BMW 330. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Side/window Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 04/26/2016

Takata recall first I should say that this is not a complaint about an incident. This is a complaint about the failure of BMW to provide a timely replacement for the thirteen (13) year old driver's side airbag in my 2004 BMW 330i, which has spent all of its life in a high absolute humidity location (houston, texas). I first contacted BMW on April, 26, 2016 regarding the takata airbag recall on my 2004 BMW 330i. They first offered to perform an interim repair or an alternate provided vehicle. However, the insurance company informed me that the replacement vehicle would not be covered under my current policy. I followed up again on July 15, 2016, and BMW informed me that interim repairs were no longer being offered because final repair parts would be available shortly. They said I would receive a notice in the mail letting me know when I could take my vehicle in to my local BMW center for repair. I have verified that my address and contact info is correct with both BMW and the repair center in houston, texas. Houston, texas is a high absolute humidity area and this car is 13 years old with the original airbag still installed. I drive this car every day to and from work in high traffic areas inside the city of houston. I believe BMW has had ample time to procure a replacement airbag, and I have called them and wasted several hours of my personal time on this still unresolved issue. In short I believe BMW is stalling with the replacement of older model year airbag replacements, because they believe these vehicles are "end of life" and there is little incentive for BMW to fix them. However, this vehicle has low mileage for its age: eighty thousand (80,000) miles, and the lack of an airbag replacement will diminish the resale value or make it much more difficult to sell.

2 Side/window Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 10/14/2015

I received a recall notice dated July 2015 and I would like to have the driver side airbag replaced. But, san diego area BMW dealers say they don't have any replacement parts. What can I do to protect my self from a shrapnel airbag in the meantime? how can I get a replacement airbag as soon as possible? thanks.

3 Side/window Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 01/14/2015

I side swiped a curb at a weird angle and it caused my drive side and passenger side side air bags to go off. The driver airbag exploded with such force that it broken my collar bone severely enough that I had to have surgery and metal plates put it to hold it back to together.

4 Side/window Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2014

The car is subject to two recalls. I have been calling BMW for over a year trying to resolve this issues. BMW says no parts are available for the July 2015 recall 15v318 unless I bring the car for inspection. Makes no sense. BMW has also been obstructionist on the 2014 recall 14v426. I live 60 miles away from the dealer. 1. They refuse to order parts for the drivers side airbag recall unless I come in for a 5 minute "inspection" first (120 miles round trip). 2. Only after the inspection, they will order parts; this requests a second trip (120 miles) because repairs can take up to 6 hours and they can't guarantee when parts for both recalls will be ready 3. They refuse to provide a loaner car or a definite time frame for the repairs and suggest I rent a car for up to a week. This would require 3 trips (360 miles plus gas and tolls) and up to 7 days rental at $35/day plus tax, gas and tolls ($250). Seems totally unreasonable. Meanwhile, I have a car with two potential deadly defects. BMW appears to be intentionally obstruction owners from effecting the repairs by creating an artificial inspection requirement which requires at least on extra trip to a dealer. Outrageous!.

5 Side/window Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 09/09/2014

Tuesday September 9, 2014 I was driving down the hwy 92 when all of a sudden I here a loud thunderous explosion. As I checked my surroundings I thought I was in the middle of a car accident, so I took my foot off the gas and coasted to the side. As I looked around my side airbag curtains on both side were deployed as well as my driver side door air bag. I get out of my car and inspect the car and nothing visibly was damaged. I look down the road and nothing was there, cars were flowing as normal and not a pot hole in sight. Called BMW and found that BMW had has a recall on certain models including mine.

6 Side/window Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 09/29/2008

While driving my 2004 BMW 330i, the driver's side door air bag spontaneously deployed. No accident, no collision, no pot hole. Nothing to explain the deployment. The dealership first claimed, "there was a collision". When it was discerned there was no evidence of a collision, their story was "there was a 'pot hole' hit". After describing the smooth driving conditions on the street this occurred, their story was " the vehicle went 'air-borne'". All of the dealerships conclusions were supposed to be based on "computer" evidence. Once I realized I was going to get nowhere with the dealership, I decided to take my car and go home. I was injured in the left side when the door panel blew open and the bag deployed. My evidence, was my "in-vehicle" "concierge" (which I had no longer subscribed to) came on via my radio to note that they " have noted a deployment of an airbag" and inquired whether I was alright, and what were my needs: I. E. , an ambulance, tow truck etc.

7 Side/window Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 09/29/2008

Spontaneous deployment of the driver-side airbag. No pot hole; no collision. Spontaneous deployment. Onstar (or BMW equivalent) acknowledged deployment. Asked if I needed an ambulance or tow truck. I felt like I was "shot" through the driver's door. Vehicle became "disabled". It started right up and I continued to my destination. When bringing the vehicle to BMW with my story, they told me I must have been in an accident (no obvious damage); then they said, I must have hit a "pot hole" (smooth street of occurrence); then they said my car must have gone "airborne" ???? my concern is the other airbags: concern for spontaneous deployment. I am glad it was me (male) driving. If my wife would have been driving, I don't know what would have happened. No other damage or incident at that time. No problems since, but I will not bring my car to this dealership for service at all: my options are limited. I now go to an independent auto shop for service. I did not report to BMW, because my warranty expired 4 days prior: didn't think I would get any sympathy. Driver side (door) airbag: spontaneous deployment. No provocation for this. Spontaneous and scary.
