1 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 01/18/2026

Manufacturer unable to remedy recall. No parts available nor timeline of when a replacement will be available.

2 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 01/30/2025

Failed component: driver side (left) exterior mirror available for inspection: yes safety risk: the mirror does not stay securely unfolded, requiring manual adjustment while driving, which creates a major distraction and increases the risk of an accident. If not manually secured, it shifts unpredictably due to wind resistance at city speeds, creating a dangerous blind spot that makes lane changes and merging hazardous. Glass isn't adjustable with buttons. The heating function is non-operational, which may impact visibility in cold/wet conditions. Problem reproducibility: the issue is persistent. Dealer or independent confirmation: the problem has not been diagnosed by a dealer, but has been check for dtc and there are no faults. Multiple reset attempts have been performed, including idrive reset, manual folding/unfolding, and a BMW battery reset procedure, cls was allowed to shut down fully, with no resolution inspection by manufacturer, police, or insurance: no warning lamps or symptoms prior to failure: none. The mirror was working perfectly before it failed suddenly with no warning signs, noises, or gradual malfunction. No known fault codes prior to the issue. Additional details: the mirror does not respond to electronic adjustments and must be manually repositioned. The glass will not adjust either unless by hand. When fully open or fully folded manually, makes a loud, forceful clunk and becomes slightly harder to move, but can still be adjusted moved with some effort. It opens far past the normal open position. In any other position other than fully extended or fully closed, it moves freely due to any external forces such as wind force while driving or lightly pushing it. The passenger-side mirror functions normally, including folding, heating, and glass adjustment. No obd error codes, warning lights, or system messages have appeared related to the failure. Mirror has not had any physical damage or abuse in any manner.

3 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 01/23/2025

The vehicle has persistent issues with its software and safety systems, creating significant safety risks. The remote software upgrade feature fails to install, despite indicating it is “ready to install” with preparations complete. This prevents critical updates that could address safety and performance defects. BMW customer support was unable to resolve the issue, and a local dealership confirmed no hardware faults but could not address the software issue due to limitations as a non-BMW-certified service center. Several critical safety features also do not function properly. The blind spot warning system has never issued alerts, leaving the driver unaware of vehicles in adjacent lanes. The forward collision warning system has never activated, even in close proximity to other vehicles. The lane departure warning fails to consistently activate, while lane keeping assistance operates only intermittently, despite being designed to engage above 40 mph. Additionally, the parking collision warning and rear cross traffic warning systems have never provided alerts, even when obstacles or approaching vehicles are present. These malfunctions severely compromise the vehicle’s ability to prevent accidents and ensure safety. The vehicle also intermittently displays drivetrain failure warnings, stating the car can still be driven but should be serviced. Upon inspection, no issues were identified. Consistent fault codes for the active kidney grille shutters appear, but no check engine light is illuminated. These recurring warnings create uncertainty about the vehicle’s reliability and the accuracy of its diagnostics. The combination of these issues places the driver, passengers, and others at risk. A thorough investigation is needed to identify and resolve the root causes. All systems are available for inspection upon request.

4 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 07/15/2024

It's been about 3 weeks since the most BMW recent software update, (11/2023. 50) has downloaded to my vehicle via the BMW connected drive services. This is the second time that over the air, BMW connected drive upgrades have failed to install on my vehicle. As before, the upgrade has downloaded to the automobile but will not activate as has happened successfully in the past. The above upgrade is supposed to solve a safety/visability problem, a stated legal requirement, pertaining to the position of the heads up display. I have consulted with BMW customer relations and technical advisors. I received and followed several sets of recommended self-install procedures without success. I was the advised to contact my BMW service center in seattle who would be able to install the update. However, they, in turn, advised me the problem was related to a weak battery. My local mechanic subsequently test the batter and indicated no discernible problem and no current need for its replacement. I’ve seen a variety of internet comments indicating other owners with similar unresolved problems with the BMW system. There appears to be no hardware or direct software install alternative. There is nothing like a recall in place to solve this problem. Given this latest update is required in part to meet safety requirements related to the vehicle heads up display, I am hoping your assistance will resolve this matter quickly. Thank you in advance -.

5 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 03/06/2024

The lower active grill on my 2020 BMW 330i failed. I purchased the vehicle on January 24th. On February 27th, the check engine light came on. I called the dealership I bought it from. They told me they did not have the necessary technology to diagnose, so I took it to a BMW mechanic. The mechanic told me it is a known warranty issue with this particular BMW, and that BMW should fix it for free under the limited warranty bulletin. When I tried to contact BMW about this issue, they refused to pay for it stating that my specific VIN number was not affected by this issue, and therefore they wouldn't pay for it. This makes no sense seeing as it is a clearly known issue with an active bulletin out for the same exact year make and model as my vehicle. The production clearly did not change enough to fix the issue, so my vehicle should be included in the limited warranty/recall. The flaps can get stuck closed, which can cause the car to overheat quickly, which can be extremely unsafe. BMW refused to even look at the vehicle to see if the issue was in fact the warranty issue without me paying a $250 diagnostic fee, when I had just paid to have it diagnosed at a different BMW mechanic.

6 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2023

I have been in the motorcycle industry 1988-2000 and the auto industry since 2000 to current, a break for about 10 years in there. I am fairly mechanically knowledgeable. On 8/1/2 was showing a customer a BMW 330i that we had in inventory. The customer sat in the driver's seat, started the engine and popped the primary hood latch. I was at the front on the vehicle. Since I deal with every make, model and years finding the secondary latch release can be challenging. Initially, I felt under the hood at the center, not finding it I proceeded to feel my way down both sides of the hood. Still not finding the release I inserted my right hand into the grill at first grill opening center right (drivers side). I was feeling inside to find the elusive release. About 1-2 seconds of feeling around I felt the a pressure against my hand. There isn't much space in the grill openings and very quickly I could not remove my hand in time, it was pinched between the vertical grill vent and, at that point unknown, active grill venting. My hand was stuck and the active grill venting continued to close since it indicated the cycle was not complete. I was stuck and it was very painful. My right was stuck in the first opening and I tried to overpower the electric motor with my left hand on the second grill opening (drivers side) I could not overpower it. I slowed it but it continued trying to close. I told the customer that I was stuck and in pain and that I needed help. I could not pull hand out since it was never intended to have a hand in there, the edges where sharp plastic on the inside, almost like a barb. It took me, being one handed and both his hands pushing on the vents to over power the system. Without the second adult male, I was trapped. Issues: 1. Excessively overpowered 2. No reverse sensor like auto up passenger windows 3. No break-away safety system.

7 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 07/27/2021

I do not know what component or system failed or malfunctioned, the car is available for inspection upon request. The car started and moved forward with no driver or passenger inside and stopped because it hit my garage door from which it was parked 3 feet from before it moved forward driverless. A car which moves by itself is unsafe because it can hit a person or object. To date, 8/11/2021 the problem has not been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? the car has not been inspected. Today a message from BMW initiated an inspection appointment at the dealer. Problem occurred without warning.
