BMW 330 owners have reported 4 problems related to interior rearview mirror (under the visibility category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.
On this date my wife complained to me about a "bubble" in her inside rear view mirror. I looked at it and it is indeed a bubble of air in her mirror. The vehicle is a 2005 BMW 330xi with an auto-dimming inside rear view mirror. Today I called BMW customer service at 800-831-1117 and spoke to a representative who told me that the vehicle was out of warentee and therefore BMW felt no responsibility to repair, replace, or help in any way with this problem. The part cost from my local BMW dealer is over $500. 00 not including labor for installation. This cost is for the entire mirror assembly, which includes the housing the electronics mounted on the housing and of course the mirror itself. The service writer at the local dealership told me that he has seen more than a few mirrors come in like that, and that one was even leaking the fluid into the interior of the car. Apparently there is a seal in the mirror that has ruptured and is now leaking air into the space between the glass plate and the mirror surface itself. The result of the "bubble" is that now the mirror refracts and relects bright light points (headlights at night or sun glare from windshields for example) into multiple spots so as to make the mirror nearly impossible to use under these conditions. I feel that BMW knows that this is a problem that they have with their mirrors and that this is definatley a safety issue with my wife's car now. I believe that if just the glass portion of the mirror were replacable this would substancially reduce the cost of repair to the consumer.

The contact owns a 2004 BMW 330xi(n/a). While the contact was driving his vehicle he noticed a loud popping sound, after examining the vehicle the contact noticed that the rear view mirror was leaking. The vehicle was taken to the dealership where the contact was informed that the rear view mirrior needed to be replaced. Prior to the failure the contact noticed that the rear view mirror had liquid missing inside of it. The current and failure mileages were 84000.

A liquid forms in the rear view mirror which hinders the ability to see which is extremely dangerous and unsafe. Then some of the liquid drains from the rear view mirror and all over the center console ruining the leather. BMW refuses to replace.
My wife who lives in flatonia, TX and who drove my 2001 BMW 330i that I bought for her to drive told me that the rear view mirror had fallen off and that she had to hold it in place to see rear traffic and that action was very dangerous. Immediately, I switched cars so I could get the BMW repaired. I went to BMW of austin to get the rear view mirror reapplied. After a lot of work, the service writer told me that the glue they use to hold the rear view mirrors on their windshields does not work on this one because it is a oem one mad e by ppg that has a type of paint on it where the rear view mirror is attached that their glue does not work on. The service writer called around austin to find an open ppg dealer who told him that I will be able to get in repaired if I go there immediately. I did. But as the man installed the rear view mirror he told me that once they start falling off they continue to because itã‚s an on-going problem with ppg windshields for this BMW. I sent an e-mail to ppg asking for help with this dangerous problem. To date, I have received no reply of any kind to this e-mail. After a few weeks, it fell off again. I did some research to find that some ppg retailers are considered to be trained and equipped to do a better job that ã‚standardã‚쳜 ppg retailers. I found one in georgetown. I took my BMW there. The desk person who helped me told me that there is an on-going problem with rear view mirrors staying on ppg windshields for this model of Bmws. The installer said that he had a new two part adhesive that should do the trick. He installed the rear view mirror. It fell off a few weeks later. I again sent an e-mail to ppg severely complaining about the dangerous and potentially hazardous problem with their BMW windshields. To date I have not received any replay form ppg. The only solution ppg is offering to resolve this obviously known dangerous situation is to replace the unusable ppg windshield with a BMW windshield that costs about $470.
