BMW 335 owners have reported 6 problems related to air bag light on (under the air bag category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.
When a passenger is belted - with car running/driving - an alarm comes on - basically not recognizing when belted. Also the inactive airbag light is not on. When no passenger, the car used to light up the 'airbag not active' - it no longer shows that (light is always off) whether passenger there or not.

My name is don, and I took my BMW to one of portlands dealerships to get my car services. First two days were fine, then after that my passenger and driver air bag lights were constantly flashing on my warning notifications tab. I reached out to the dealership and they wanted me to come back. After I was done with them they charged me over $700 for inspecting the issues and problems reported, then quoted me over $4,000 worth of air bag replacements. The dealership cleared the codes before I left and declined their offer. I saw on kelly blue book that there were recalls on this model. At this time I'm hesitant to trust the dealership because last time I was there I was told I needed a new engine, worth over $26,000. The car is almost at 70,000 miles and I find that very hard to believe. I almost asked the technician if he would be willing to take a lie detector test on my expense. I understand that dealerships typically make more money in the service department than selling new and used cars. I was told by them there were no recalls on my car, but I do want to make a report. Not feeling comfortable to drive my car, I have been storing it in the garage and only using it very lightly. My engine issues started with a small ticking sound. The dealership of portland wanted me to replace tensioners and the timing belt, but the sound was coming from the fuel injectors, after that they wanted me to replace my whole engine. I have been misled by them multiple times. When I bought the car, my luck wasn't so great, after two weeks of purchasing it a small rock on the penetrated my window while I was on the highway. I got insure to cover it but they needed a quote from the dealership. I got 3 different quotes, all hundreds of dollars apart from $800-+$1,000. The reason why I am making this report is regarding my safety and concerns for these airbags, wanting to be assured safety.

Passenger airbag seat mat occupancy sensor fault. The problem began whenever a passenger would sit on the seat, the airbag light would go on. After some time passed the light stays on permanently. I noticed recalls for this problem in previous years. Upon researching, it seems to be a wide spread problem that just isn't reported. It leads to many just fixing it themselves, or just buying bypasses to avoid forking out over $1200 to get it fixed. The problem doesn't seem like a normal wear and tear situation, and needs to be addressed.

Takata recall. . . . Still awaiting update/notice/repair/anything from BMW north America since I was initially notified in March 2016. It is now August 2017! I have a car that I am insuring, sitting unused in my driveway because it is a safety hazard. I can't sell it, or trade it in due to decreased value of airbag light on, and lack of repair. It is coming up for state inspection soon, and won't pass because airbag light is on. This is a very frustrating, unfair and worse, potentially dangerous or fatal situation. I find it inexcusable that it has been almost a year and a half since first notification, and a remedy has still not been made. BMW needs to be held accountable to make necessary repairs in a more timely and reasonable manner. It is just unacceptable that this is taking so long. If repairs cannot be made, BMW should buy the vehicle back and compensate the owners for loss of use plus fair market value.

Seat occupancy sensor on passenger seat has failed. Shows as "airbag light" on dash. BMW already recalled some vehicles for this, and gave a 15-year extended warranty for cars including my model and model year, but refuse to honor the warranty for my particular vehicle because it has sports seats instead of standard seats. Lookup on BMW parts numbers show that the seat occupancy sensor has the same part number on sports and non-sports seats. No remedy from BMW, including contact to BMW USA (have record of emails, including an offer for a phone call I never received).
The contact owns a 2007 BMW 335xi. The contact stated that the air bag warning indicator was illuminated and remained illuminated until the vehicle was powered off. The VIN was excluded from NHTSA campaign number: 13v564000 (air bags). The vehicle was brought to the dealer, but was not diagnosed or repaired due to the vehicle having over 100,000 miles. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 126,000.
