BMW 335 owners have reported 3 problems related to fuel injection (under the gasoline fuel system category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.
My BMW 335i only had a few thousand miles when I began noticing it took an inordinate amount of time to start the engine. It would crank for several seconds before the engine finally started, especially if it was a cold start. Once the engine was warmed up it seemed to run just fine. Then after a few days the "service engine" light and exclamation point were light up on my dashboard. I took it to the dealer and they explained BMW was aware of the problem with the fuel pump and fuel injection system and they would take proper steps to ensure the problem was fixed. To my knowledge they changed the fuel pump and whatever other seals needed to be changed. Car seemed to work just fine for about 6 weeks, now the problem has returned. The vehicle now has to crank for an inordinate amount of time again in order to get the car to start. I am concerned this will not be properly fixed again. The car is not yet at 10k miles and I am having to bring it in to be fixed for a second time. This is very disconcerting. **please note, the system would not allow the 335i as an option for the 2009 year, only when I chose the year as 2008, please note however that this is a 2009 BMW not a 2008**.

summary:
the 2007 BMW 335i vehicles are equipped with a high precision fuel injection system designed to allow precise metering of the fuel mixture and higher engine compression to increase engine and fuel efficiency. The system includes a standard in-tank fuel pump to deliver fuel to the engine and a high-pressure fuel pump driven by the oil pump chain drive assembly, which can achieve a maximum programmed fuel pressure of 200 bar. Odi has received three owner complaints of stalling incidents in the subject vehicles due to failure of the high-pressure fuel pump. Additionally, odi has received eight complaints alleging incidents of vehicles unexpectedly going into a limp mode because of high-pressure fuel pump failures. A preliminary investigation has been opened to assess the scope, frequency and safety consequences of the alleged defect.

BMW 335 coupe hpfp (high pressure fuel pump for direct injection) failed before 4,000 miles. No signs of failure, car started to run rough, went into "limp" mode, and then would not restart without dying again after a few moments. Car was towed to the dealer, and was diagnosed as fuel pump failure. I had to wait 7+ weeks with the car in service because the fuel pump was on International backorder with 400+ units on backorder! pump was replaced after being in the shop for 7+ weeks, and car is running good again.
