Two wheel rims cracked, only 38,000 miles on vehicle. Rims won't withstand normal road conditions. They are a safety hazard never know when they will crack and causing loosing control while driving.
Michelin pilot sport a/s plus tires 275/30/19 on BMW m3 had blow out on freeway at normal speeds of 65 mph. Could hear rubber whipping the road just prior to the abruptly bursting. Had tires inspected and technician found excessive cracking near the tread and center wear-bar had pitting in the rubber (15,622 miles). Car is seldom driven and always garaged (climate controlled). Tire store had seen identical issues in the past with same tire. Did not want to replace with same tires that potentially have the same issue. Lost warranty credits to purchase another brand for family safety. These tires are not safe and need to be reviewed for material and engineering design. Particular vehicle does not hold a spare. Endangerment from potential injury and being stranded in an isolated area.
Bridgestone potenza tire tread separating from the tire - delimitation? normal highway driving in arizona. Tire appears to have significant tread left and still holds air. See photo.
Steering wheel lock (red symbol on the notification screen). Vehiclecle will no longer start. Nothing seems to work.
Was driving on hwy 99 getting ready to exit on jensen Ave when I felt a bump then my driver curtain/ door airbag deployed. After further inspection I found damaged to the diver's rim and tire, brakes have been clicking ever since and suspension seems to be affected as well since car is been shaking and tilting to that side.
Was driving on a cloverleaf ramp in baton rouge, la. (hwy 61 & florida blvd. ) when passenger side air bag deployed causing me to veer to the right. I then hit a drain on the curbing and blew out both right side tires and bent rims. Outside temp was with no rain. ( not sure of exact vehicle mileage b/c car is in shop) I can get pictures if needed.
Traveling south on 75,driver door bag deployed for no reason. Applied brakes and ran off side off road to keep from having a car rear end me and then right tire blew out due to drop off. Car shut down by itself. Air bags did not completely deploy. Over head strap hit head and neck area causing soreness and headache. Door air bag caused fragments to hit hand and tore off skin. I thought car was on fire due to smoke smell of wires burning, removed strap off neck and got out of car. If traffic had been heavy there would have been a major wreck. If I had been on 2 lane highway I would have hit head on another vehicle. Monday called BMW and they said someone would call me back. I called every day for a week and was told to leave msg with case mgr which I did. 10 days later case mgr called and said bags are not suppose to fully deflate and she would have car towed to nearest dealer for engineer to look at and once they have car it could be another 2-3 weeks before he looks at car and not to expect any repairs. She also said she does not find any recalls for this car. I told her I found info on internet. Now I am out of car and waiting on BMW to look into. BMW case #nj34146. Nhtsa campaign number 13v172000. + USA today may 7,2013. . Read more...
Tpms alerted us of a low tire. When taken to repair we where notified the left rear rim was cracked and leaking air. Car was only driven on the highway, no rough roads. . . What would cause the rim to crack? I understand the uk's ntsb has issued a recall as BMW admitted that their wheels had defective alloy metal causing the rims to breakdown. However, BMW of north America has not admitted to any defective metal and has not accepted responsibility. Hope this gets reviewed for safety before some gets physically injured or dies as a result of these defective wheels. Having reviewed the forum, there are hundreds of these discussions regarding cracked rims on Bmws. This is not a one case incident, thereby warrants further investigation.
While driving my vehicle, I hit a pothole on the passenger side of the vehicle. My driver side airbags deployed: the side, and curtain. The passenger side airbags did not deploy. After inspecting the vehicle on the outside. The rear passenger side tire was flat.
There is a crack in the rim which is a manufacturing defect. This fine crack causes loss of air pressure in the tire. The tire itself is intact and undamaged as is the rim. Both tire and rim are original equipment and were on the vehicle at the time of delivery in Dec. 2008. The vehicle has never been involved in an accident or struck any object which could have caused this defect. Since the manufacturing defect causes loss of air pressure in the tire, this is a safety issue. The crack in rim was diagnosed after two visits by discount tire on cerrillos road in santa fe, nm. [xxx] at BMW n. A. Suggested I contact the dealer to find out who manufactured the rim and then deal with the rim manufacturer. He says that BMW assumes no responsibility for their rims and that rims are not covered by the vehicle warranty. [xxx]. Said he could not tell me who manufactured the rim. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
The contact owns a 2001 BMW 330i . The contact stated while driving 60 mph, there was a loud noise coming from the rear of the vehicle. The contact then pulled over and noticed that the rear right wheel came apart. When removing the wheel the contact also noticed that there was a huge crack in the middle of the rim. The vehicle was then taken to an authorized dealer who stated they could not understand how the crack developed. The vehicle was not included in NHTSA recall campaign number: 00v383000 ( wheels:rim ). The vehicle was not repaired . The failure mileage was 180,000 and the current mileage was 181,000.
Upon mounting new tires on my 2008 BMW 328i convertible (w/ sport pkg) at big o tires in danville, CA, the technicians informed me that both of my rear wheels were cracked, and they could not mount the new tires on the vehicle. Upon inspection at BMW of san francisco, my service advisor told me that it was in their opinion that an "impact" from a pothole or other irregular road surface caused the cracks in both rear wheels and that warranty coverage is denied. Upon my own investigation, I found several other BMW customers describe a similar concern on www. Bimmerfest. Com, as well as an investigation performed by the bbc in October of 2009. . Read more...
You can't hit a pot hole without bending a rim my daughter just bought 09 328 with 7800 miles, drove it 3000miles, has one cracked rim, two bent rims and the shop said she has two damaged tires. She bought 4 new tires. I'm sorry I told her to buy BMW. My son bought 08 335xi with 60000 miles. Drove it for a few months, the dealer said it needed 3 rims straighten. Also because it had a mis the dealer gave him an estimate for $18,000. 00 to fix the rims, the two leaks and the transmission. He got rid of it as fast as he could and took a beating. I have been driving for 56yrs without a bent rim until I bought the 07 BMW.
