One problem related to ball joint has been reported for the 1997 BMW 528. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
While backing out of a parking a space the flexible ball joint housing came apart. This caused the consumer to lose control of the vehicle, and the steering wheel turned completely around. The flex joint housing bolt went out. The flex joint housing bolts needed to be replaced and the slip ring was damaged to the wheel spring.
