The contact owns a 2011 BMW 528i. While driving approximately 70 mph, the vehicle made an abnormal noise and the sun roof independently shattered. The failure occurred without warning. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer or an independent mechanic to be diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 65,000.
While driving down the street at 40 mph I heard a loud explosion type sound. I pulled over after making sure it was safe and noticed my sunroof glass had shattered into a million pieces. It looked as if it had exploded from within the car outwards. I contacted the dealer and BMW of America and both said that it was not recalled and they had not heard of any incidents such as that. BMW of America suggested I take my car into the dealer and have them examine it at my expense.
