5 Power Train problem of the 2006 BMW 530

Failure Date: 03/08/2019

While replacing parking light bulb I found insulation to bulb holder falling off, likely due to heat inside headlight assembly. Given the brittle insulation falling off, a short could easily have occurred. The inner cv joint on the right drive was found to be without grease. With no grease fitting or means of inspection, the axle could have frozen, causing stability issues.

While sitting at a light car was impacted by another vehicle from the passenger's side at the rear axle wheel area. Auto struck vehicle at speeds near 80-100 mph. Airbags did not deploy even though when the car stuck it continued from the rear to the front of the car even partially ripping the front bumper out of place.

9 Power Train problem of the 2004 BMW 530

Failure Date: 08/02/2014

Everytime, coming to a complete stop, transmission has a noticeable "bump"/rough shift into 1st gear, took the vehicle to BMW dealership for diagnosis/repair, problem was not solved time and time again. Now, approximately over a year later, transmission warning light on, transmission went into limp mode. BMW dealer states, transmission has to be replaced at my expense due to 3-2-1 downshift. I am the original owner of this vehicle and vehicle since purchase has been maintained meticulously at the same BMW dealership.

10 Power Train problem of the 2004 BMW 530

Failure Date: 12/12/2013

I was driving down he highway at a speed of 65 when I tried to accelerate to switch lanes and the transmission faut came on and it also stated to drive moderately. The car also went into a safe mode to were I couldn't accelerate and it wouldn't switch out of third gear. Car then was turned off and back on and code fault went always , two weeks later same thing popped up trying to get on highway and now won't go away.

11 Power Train problem of the 2006 BMW 530

Failure Date: 09/10/2013

The transmission has a harsh 2-1 shift down to stop. This happens at 5 mph and when the transmission is shifting from second gear to first gear. Sometimes it is mild sometimes it is very rough as to move you and your head in the seat, as if another car tapped into the back oif the car. Sometimes the transmission will jerk while sitting at a traffic light or stop. I see reference to this phenomenon all over the web but when I approached a BMW service writer and explained this to him, he would not acknowledge that he was even aware of it. He would only say that they could look at my car but their policy is that they do not repair transmissions, they only replace them. So if there is any transmission operation out of the norm, it will be deemed for replacement. Did I still want them to look at it? a new transmission for my car is $8,000. 00 and almost another $700. 00 to program the computer to mate the new transmission with the car. Blue book on my car is $9,000. 00, therefor you could say it's totaled! BMW needs to stand behind this problem as it is not an isolated case. When I put the transmission in m+s mode the 2-1 shift down does not occur but there are rougher shifts going up through the gears. Either way it is a trade off and neither is a satisfactory result.

12 Power Train problem of the 2005 BMW 530

Failure Date: 12/14/2012

Coming onto highway pushed gas pedal to accelerate, the car attempted to downshift but lost power with a large warning diagnostic on control panel -- transmission error indicating that car would now operate in a diminished state. Luckily managed to pull off to the side without causing accident. This is a hazardous situation the loss of power could easily have had more disastrous consequences.

13 Power Train problem of the 2006 BMW 530

Failure Date: 12/02/2012

A recent rain storm flooded the spare tire well compartment and fried all the electrical components stored underneath the tire. Luckily I wasn't driving the wagon that day and the car was parked on the driveway. Otherwise, the car would had shut down if it was moving and could cause an accident (happened to someone as discussed in the bimmer forum). Apparently, BMW have known about this safety issue as well as the sunroof drainage & tire well design defects for quite some time. They even generated a technical service/service information bulletin (sib54-06-06 & 61-13-06 on special roofs) for their service department to use. However, BMW keeps denying any damage liability and refusing to admit any design defects. BMW na, public relations and the sf BMW dealership responded to me that it is due to "external factors" (rains) and thereby they have no responsibility to the damaged vehicle. The service adviser told me that the repair cost would run into $15k. I am filing the said complaint and am seeking an attorney for a possible class action suit against BMW na.

14 Power Train problem of the 2005 BMW 530

Failure Date: 08/08/2012

Going 55 mph. The car lost power with a large warning diagnostic on control panel -- transmission error indicating that car would now operate in a diminished state. Luckily managed to pull off to the side without causing accident. This is a hazardous situation the loss of power could easily have had more disastrous consequences. It was sputtering and I shut engine off and it started again. I drove home. Took it to a BMW repair shop and BMW and no one could find problem.

16 Power Train problem of the 2004 BMW 530

Failure Date: 07/07/2011

I have been getting transmission error fault frequently and now seems to happen very often. You can stop the car and restart it and it will run but will generate the error in a month or two again.

17 Power Train problem of the 2001 BMW 530

Failure Date: 09/24/2008

2001 BMW 530ia reverse?!?! the car has never been abused and always serviced as recommended by the on board computer and owners manual. Reverse for no reason stopped working at the worst possible time!!! it has enough power to roll very slowly if you rev the motor out of a flat parking spot but it doesn't have any power to back up any incline at all. I have never abused the car or had any problems with the drive train. The dealership told me it has a sealed transmission and you can't check or add fluid. I got stuck against a curb while trying to perform a u-turn blocking oncoming traffic and had to get a tow truck to remove my car a few feet back. I thought that I did something wrong but after researching I see that tons of people have encountered this same defect!! why hasn't this been recalled? it's a very expensive repair costing thousands for a new transmission. I worked at a BMW dealership in sales and the service provider I spoke to said it's a common problem with BMW that should be addressed.
