Steering Problems of BMW 530 - part 1

My car was totaled, I lost steering assistance, and it switched off while I was driving. The car was the subject of an open recall. I need this looked at because it might be a crash caused by a fault.

Brakes did not work properly, brakes were hard and vehicle was not stopping, the vehicle was difficult to control because steering wheel was very hard too. This incident caused the vehicle to take a significant distance to stop and almost cause a crash with the vehicle in front. The incident was reported to dealer, dealer representative said there was a recall on the ibs and requested vehicle to be taken to dealership to replace defective part of the ibs. This recall was never notified to us (customers) by the manufacturer nor by the dealer. No warning messages or symptoms were presented before the brakes failure. Defective part was replaced by dealer at not cost to the us (customers).

I went to start my vehicle one morning and the cars dsc light and steering lights were on. The steering wheel had loss of power as the electronic steering went out. A got a group of warning messages. Warnings include: cont. Driving possible: chassis stabilization, increased steering effort: drive carefully to the closet service station, driving assistance support reduced, pedestrian warning was disabled, frontal collision warning disabled, cruise control disabled, heads up display disabled. I also bought a 2017 BMW 540i car from a dealer and within the 2nd day the vehicle had the same problem while trying to park the car had the same problems. I took it to a BMW service center and the estimate was $7400. I was able to return the car because it was within the 5 day window for returns.

Unrepaired recalls (1) 12v-126:79 safety: battery cable - insulated bulkhead connector Mar 23, 2012 oem code 12v-126:79 all the dealerships I contacted to fix this recall never replied to me and the battery connection has ruined my electrical components on my vehicle(long beach BMW and cerritos BMW California).

Tl- the contact owns a 2004 BMW 530i. The contact stated while driving 40mph when the vehicle steering wheel became difficult to turn and the front passenger side axel seperated from the body which resulted in the contact crashing the vehicle. Contact stated all airbags deployed and a police report was taken. The contact stated that there was a loud pop before the failure occured. 1 person was injuried which resulted in back soreness, no medical treatment was neeeded. The vehicle was towed to mobile maintenance & towing llc (2014 w gardner ln, tucson, az 85705 (520) 900-1196) the vehicle was destroyed. Upon investigation, the contact associated the failure with, NHTSA campaign number: 19e058000 (steering) however the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was not informed of failure. The failure mileage was approximately 190,000. Dl.

Not sure what I'm supposed to write. I seen that there is a recall on something to do with the steering. And that consequences for failure of that part can be less of control that dont sound safe at all.

I have coolant leaks and power steering leaks and oil leaks , my alignment in batires are inward causing my tires to worn out quick, electric problem sometimes car won't start randomly making me to jump start it, my suspension is bad not sure why but causing my tire traction light go on makes it very hard to stay in control of car when driving on freeway.

While driving on a city street, dash warning lights illuminated, advising to drive immediately to the nearest BMW service center. At the same time the vehicle became hard to steer. While trying to pull off the roadway the steering wheel locked up, nearly causing an accident. Obviously a serious safety concern. Currently at the dealer for repair.

I purchased this BMW from lombard Toyota . As per them they have ensured nothing is wrong with the car . I was driving the car and when I apply the brakes the car tries to jump forward. My car is a all wheel drive and it caused a skid . This has caused me to have the car go out of control when it was snowing . When I investigated this , it seems to be a common problem with BMW and BMW USA doesnt want to do anything . This is a very dangerous situation and BMW doesnt want to take responsibility as per lombard Toyota .

My 2007 BMW 530i has a message in the dash with a red steering wheel saying "steering wheel lock malfunction!" "steering wheel may stay locked/unlocked and vehicle may not start". . . . . I have called the BMW manufacturing company in south carolina and they told me that there was nothing they could do about this issue stating that the vehicle was 11 yrs old and problems will accrue with that age on any vehicle. Yes that may be true but this is a safety issue because the steering wheel could lock while driving down the rd and cause an accident. I also called the local BMW dealership to see how much it would cost to resolve this issue on my own and the said that the part itself was around $600!!! then add on 4hrs of labor to that with a labor rate of $145 and he! that adds up to almost $1200. 00, how can a steering wheel lock cost so much! and us customers be forced to pay this amount because if we don't we may end up on the interstate at 70mph and the steering lockup and have major accident. Someone please help with this issue!.

Active steering malfunction, steering wheel not centered.

Active lane keeping assistant is very dangerous because the vehicle often will veer out of lane toward oncoming traffic or other obstacle. This occurs even though there are clear lane markings and all other requirements for system operation are met. It happens at higher speeds and at lower speeds as well. Since the feature does operate correctly a high percentage of the time, the driver is put under extra stress having to be constantly on guard for when the car will veer off without warning. BMW literature and video say the system will make the drive more relaxed and the driver more rested but it is exactly the opposite. Even though I know that the driver is always ultimately responsible, their video states that the system keeps the car in the center of the lane without driver steering input. I have contacted BMW and my local dealer. All they say is that the system operates as designed. But it is very dangerous and will cause injury or worse. Additionally, "with the system switched on, the person warning with city braking function and the side collision warning are active. " therefore, if you turn the system off because of the danger of veering out of lane, you will lose the safety features just mentioned. I am very surprised and disturbed by BMW's failure to acknowledge and address the failures and dangers of the system. Being most interested in safety of my vehicle I always purchase all the safety features. In this situation I have been sadly disappointed in the reliability of the BMW technology.

My steering wheel is locked and so the car will not start.

The steering wheel has a lock with an electronic system that creates a "fault" notice when not working. The fault notice can come on even when the steering wheel is operable. Apparently, the fault notice can lock the steering wheel after 10 +/- notices. The lock can cause the steering wheel to freeze, and/or the car to shut down. There are literally thousands of reports online about this issue. The repair costs $850. This dangerous situation should be a manufacturer's problem and a recall should be implemented.

I got a message on the dashboard saying steering wheel lock malfunction. But the car is still running, I got scared in case some thing happened I need your advice.

Elv fault and now car won't start. There are many reports of this happening on this make and year of call. . This should be a recal!!.

The contact owns a 2006 BMW 530i. The contact stated that while driving 40 mph, the power steering malfunctioned causing the steering wheel to lock and no warning lamp illuminated. The contact mentioned that the driver had to turn off and restarted the vehicle in or for the vehicle to resumed normal function. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 82,000.

While driving suddenly the drive control malfunction alert appeared, a few seconds later, active steering malfunction alert occurred. It did not affect my driving at all, so I continued until able to pull over, and turn the car off, when I restarted the car, both alerts cleared. Next day, after driving for 20 minutes it happened again, once car is turned off and turned back on, alerts disappeared again. Some days does not come on at all, but noticed it occurs more frequent when weather is hot. I live in phoenix, az the temps are in 105-109 range. When cooler weather the alerts do not come on. I am told it will cost over $2000 to replace both sensors. That is nuts. . .

Have researched numerous forums regarding car issues. "passenger restraint malfunction" alarm appears on idrive with airbag light illuminated and seat belt light illuminated on dash board. Reads that parts of the passenger restraint system have failed or are faulty. Front passenger air bag may or may not deploy, along with other passive restraint devices. Have not received any notifications from BMW regarding recall issue, but discovered recently there is a recall for my car model/year. Am awaiting a service appointment to have it evaluated, will not pay to have it repaired if dealership says it is not part of the recall. "steering wheel lock malfunction" on idrive. Light illuminated recently and continues to stay on. Can currently start and run my car, along with turn steering wheel and hear the steering wheel unlock when key is inserted into ignition. Also researched on BMW forums, known to many 3/5/6 series in my year of production having similiar issues in europe and USA. No recall from BMW on this also? will also not pay for this repair as it appears to be a defective part for the model year by BMW.

Dsc and awd lights come up intermittently. Dealer reported failure in steering angle sensor. Checked in forums to find that this is a common failure for all e60 BMW cars.

Car stalled in traffic but would not restart due to a faulty steering wheel lock sensor. (elv) wheel was turned and would not move due to this electronic locking control sensor. BMW refuses to fix as a recall or safety issue. $1000 for new part.

I have a BMW 530i 2005, I turned on the engine, and the "active steering malfunction" icon came out. For safety reasons, I need to fix this issue as soon as possible.

In August 2013, the station wagon appeared to lower itself in the rear little by little. As of this filing, the rear end has lowered itself to the point it causes unsafe driving and there is no shock absorption or suspension on the rear of the vehicle. The front appears to be fine. In June 2006, there was a recall campaign for rear shock absorbers under 06v-277 for 2006 BMW 5. 6 & 7 series for vehicles manufactured from January 5, 2006-April 26, 2006. My vehicle, per BMW, was manufactured in may 2005. I am alleging my vehicle handling and control is impaired due to the defect associated with the shock absorbers and the inclusive manufacturing dates should include all 2006 Bmws. The dealer and BMW is neglecting to address the issue based on a technicality on the inclusive manufactured dates. Please investigate an expansion to the inclusion.

Steering angle sensor problem.

Awd and dsc malfunction error message . Awd and dsc have malfunctioned. Limited driving stability. Drive moderately. Steering angle sensor.

On Tuesday may 29th we had a rain storm, the next day I got into my vehicle with my husband and two children to go to a soccer game. Five minutes before entering the massachusetts turnpike my vehicle went into total electrical failure and my steering locked. Luckily I was only traveling at 25mph and was able to pull my vehicle over. I had it towed to our local BMW dealer which found that the cassette on the panoramic sunroof to be defective. . . . That caused a great deal of water to get into the vehicle and go under the spare tire in the rear where all the electrical is. I put a complaint into BMW of north America because a. The electrical should not be put under the spare tire where water could get in and b. I was about to get on the turnpike where the speed limit is 65 mph, I am extremely lucky because if I was on the mass pike there could have been a terrible accident. It was 2498 to fix the issue, BMW was willing to pay half and relocate all the electrical to a safer more dryer place. I am writing this letter because I feel there should be a recall on this issue, BMW needs to relocate the electrical components to a safer area than underneath the spare tire. BMW of north America was extremely rude when I told them about this issue, it was basically "nothing happened to you and your family, so we know it"s a problem, so we will pay for half of it". I hope something can be done about this issue to safeguard other BMW drivers who have similar vehicles.

Steering wheel lock warning appears necessitating expensive repair. This flaw appears since 2006 and across models: the 1 series 3 series and 5 series. The condition isn't brought on by any incidents.

Incidental finding of huge crack on left rear lower control arm discovered by mechanic who was servicing the vehicle. I have photos and the part in question.

The active steering fault code comes on and states your active steering may not be functioning.

2 week ago my vehicle display " active steering malfunction " and still displays it I have not fixed the problem yet since I hear so many diferent things.

(note: this process does not list the 2004 BMW 745i) I purchased my 2004 745i as a certified pre-owned vehicle from a local BMW dealer in October 2007. Since then on 3 separate occasions the steering has totally locked. This has happened when entering or exiting a parking space and the steering wheel was turned completely to the left (counter clockwise) position. The dealer cannot duplicate the condition and there is no error code recorded in the obdi. On two of the occasions I had to turn the engine off and then restart the car to free the steering. On the last occasion the steering was restored after about 30 seconds with the engine still running. On a fourth occasion the steering was difficult and sluggish but returned to normal a few seconds later. I have a great fear this will happen when I'm traveling on the roadway and not just in my driveway or a parking lot. The dealer insists that they cannot find anything to account for my experiences.
