7 Wiring problem of the 2004 BMW 530

Failure Date: 05/01/2017

The wiring inside the headlights are all crumbling and exposing the copper within creating an electroncal fire or shorting of the system. This appears to be very common on the e60 series BMW and should be addressed.

8 Wiring problem of the 2001 BMW 530

Failure Date: 04/04/2017

I parked my car and found that the electrical system had almost caught fire, melting the carpet and plastic interior, glovebox and multiple electrical components and wiring harness. The airbags had deployed and there was black soot covering the interior. I found that there was water accumulated beneath the passenger footwell, where there is a major electrical fuse panel. The car is currently in front of my home and I've had to find a replacement vehicle due to the extensive damage to the wiring harness and modules. Also the smoke damage would prevent me from wanting to drive the car. It had been raining regularly for the previous months during winter and I believe it's possible that water was being diverted to this area where the main electrical fuses were located. There do not appear to be any provisions to keep water from accumulating or to protect the fuses from water intrusion. The angle at which the car was parked was with the front pointed up at an incline of approximately 15 degrees. This occurred on a city street. The car is irreparable and must be disposed of.

9 Wiring problem of the 2006 BMW 530

Failure Date: 03/05/2017

The wiring harness inside the headlights is crumbling away causing lights to intermittently not work. The wires spark when they touch together. This is a fire hazard.

10 Wiring problem of the 2007 BMW 530

Failure Date: 09/21/2016

The left front parking bulb was no working, took the vehicle to BMW dealership in columbia, s. C. To have bulb replaced. Upon picking up the vehicle, the warning indicator for the same bulb and the left front high beam warning both lights were not functioning correctly appeared. I returned to the service department to inquire why the warning was on, which they stated it was probably left loose. The service adviser returned to bring me into the shop to show me the wiring for the light assembly was cracking and falling off, exposing bare wire causing the short and blowing the bulbs. The service department at BMW stated a new assembly would be required which would be about $1500 each for the parts. After replacement of the bulb while in the service department, there was another electrical short causing the bulbs to blow immediately. I have read the wiring was coated with a soy based product, which is why the wiring coating is prematurely cracking and exposing bare copper wire, creating an electrical and fire hazard. Due to the inadequate material utilized by the manufacturer, it should be rectified by the manufacturer prior to serious injury or death.

11 Wiring problem of the 2006 BMW 530

Failure Date: 07/12/2016

Insulation around the wiring in the headlights has completely crumbled off and bare wire is exposed, could possible touch and cause a fire. Passenger air bag sensor in the seat is faulty and I recieved a recall notice but BMW says there is no recall on my car and refuses to fix.

12 Wiring problem of the 2006 BMW 530

Failure Date: 04/21/2016

Internal headlight wiring insulation flaking off exposing copper wire causing failure of parking and daytime running lights and failure of the front headlight system as well as the risk of fire. Also having issues with intermittent cruise control, power ports and fan inside the car.

13 Wiring problem of the 2007 BMW 530

Failure Date: 03/14/2016

Replacing the daytime running light bulb that failed, I removed the headlight assembly from the vehicle to have easier access to the bulb recessed deep inside the headlight housing. Upon opening the access panel, I discovered the wiring insulation of most of the inner wiring harness of headlight brittle and flaking off, exposing the bare wires. The short circuit probability is high with the exposed wires in close proximity.

14 Wiring problem of the 2004 BMW 530

Failure Date: 10/01/2015

The headlight assembly produced by hella contains apparently defective wiring. The insulation on the electrical wires to the high beam bulbs and the parking light bulbs deteriorates and crumbles off leaving exposed electrical wires in the headlight assembly. Moving the wires during removal and replacement of bulbs caused the insulation to break off completely. The problem was just discovered, but was obviously in a state of decay for a long period of time.

15 Wiring problem of the 2006 BMW 530

Failure Date: 03/02/2015

The wiring insulation is peeling around all of the wires in the headlight assembly. This is not a serviceable part, but the light bulbs are serviceable. This seems to pose a fire risk because bare conductors of opposite polarity are exposed to one another.

16 Wiring problem of the 2007 BMW 530

Failure Date: 12/23/2014

All active xenon headlight wiring protective coating is/has flaked off exposing wires, making it vulnerable to electrical short, lose of driving lights and potential fire hazard .

17 Wiring problem of the 2006 BMW 530

Failure Date: 09/11/2014

As I was driving a warning came on my idrive display that there was a parking light malfunction. I later removed the headlight to replace a bulb and upon doing so I noticed bare copper wires. I then removed the main cover and saw that literally every wire had portions of the outer wire jacket deteriorating. When I removed the parking lamp assy. To replace the bulb, the wire jacket just flaked off. Due to the severity of the damage I immediately took the headlight to lauderdale BMW. Lauderdale BMW had a specialist look at the headlight. The specialist said that though it did look very bad unfortunately it was just due to the florida sun! there is no support for the headlight either from hella north America (the actual manufacturer of the headlight) or from BMW. No parts can be ordered for it. The only option available is to purchase a complete new headlight assy. At $1500. 00 I wrote to hella north America and they referred me to BMW germany. I wrote to Bmwna and they responded that it was just normal wear and tear. Imagine that, an 8 year old headlight deteriorate to bare wires is by BMW's concern, normal wear and tear! that's shameful! at this point I cannot install the headlight assembly back into the car for fear of a dead short and possible fire! I have a 1995 Chevrolet s-10 that at 19 years has no wiring issues and definitely no bare wires! for BMW though it is considered completely acceptable after 8 years! yet both vehicles sit side by side in the florida sun everyday! is it right that BMW vehicle pricing on the average is so much higher than Chevrolet and yet BMW's build quality and what is acceptable is so much lower! when this happens, something is terribly wrong!.

18 Wiring problem of the 2005 BMW 530

Failure Date: 08/01/2014

This has been happening to other 2005 BMW 530i owners. While braking vehicle idrive gave warning that rear driver side brake light failed and then that the rear light had a malfunction. Upon looking at the wiring harness attached to the taillight bulb carrier, the brown wire is burnt outside of the harness. The rubber coating of the wire is burnt through and the wire is exposed. The plastic wire harness is burnt and melted. The taillight bulb carrier is also burnt and melted. Exactly what has happened to my car. The ground wire has way too much current on it resulting in melting and possible fire.

19 Wiring problem of the 2007 BMW 530

Failure Date: 07/07/2014

The sheating on my headlight's wiring is flaking off which could lead to potential fires. I was quoted $1500 per headlight to replace them with the same crappy headlight housings that are made with the same material that will eventually do the same thing. All I need is to have the car parked in my garage and it causing a fire that could burn down our home or worst injure my family.

20 Wiring problem of the 2006 BMW 530

Failure Date: 06/27/2014

I discovered failures of multiple wires in the tailgate/rear window wiring harnesses. Through research online I have found this is a common problem with this vehicle over several model years - search for BMW e61 tailgate wiring problems. The failures are caused by a poor design where the wires entering the hinge guides (4) for the glass and tailgate are repeatedly flexed at a sharp angle until the insulation, then the copper wire breaks. Safety issues - possible electrical short circuit leading to fires (highest load is for rear defroster); lighting failures (rear high brake light, license plate lamps and others); reduced visibility due to loss of wiper/washer/defroster; rear glass latch opening while underway, possibly resulting in loss of cargo or ingress of exhaust fumes. Central locking mechanism fails. If there were to be an accident and/or interior fire escaping the vehicle would be difficult this is not an easily repaired problem. It would be beyond the capabilities of all but a skilled mechanic with proper tools. I discovered it when the remote lock/unlock using the key fobs failed. As I investigated I found the broken wire, along with several others with broken insulation, some with broken copper strands.

21 Wiring problem of the 2005 BMW 530

Failure Date: 09/23/2013

22 Wiring problem of the 2007 BMW 530

Failure Date: 07/16/2013

The headlights, driving lights are all shorted out. This was a dangerous situation as it happened at night. When taken to my mechanic, he told me that it is a common fault on BMW's. That the wiring for all the lights is made from recycled plastic and with the heat from outside and the engine the insulation completely deteriorates. He showed my bare wires everywhere and if you touch the insulation it just crumbles away. How could a $55,000 car have such poor wiring that is can create a dangerous and possibly fatal accident. To me there should be a complete recall of affected vehicles.

23 Wiring problem of the 2007 BMW 530

24 Wiring problem of the 2005 BMW 530

Failure Date: 01/01/2012

I have xenon adaptive headlights oem made by hella. The insulation on all of the wiring inside the headlight assembly is falling off. You cannot touch a wire without the insulation crumbling off the wiring. Now having numerous faults and hid light on drivers side is non functional due to wiring shorts.

25 Wiring problem of the 2001 BMW 530

Failure Date: 06/01/2011

Car had experienced multiple overheating. At the time of incidents the overheating was a mystery, until after incident was that it was learned that these vehicles display problems with auxiliary fan which causes engine to overheat and develop irreparable damages. An electrical fire develop in engine bay which destroy all wiring, fuel injection system and transmission. Also, the block (which is alloy or weak aluminum) was damaged beyond repaired. Heads were replaced and it was hen that I learned block was a total loss. As a result, entire engine was swapped, and the transmission was overhauled. I contacted BMW of north America via email and telephone to inquire about recalls regarding this matter. There are recalls on the above mentioned factory defects, but my vehicle is not covered. I already spent around $8,000. 00 in repairs because BMW claim my vehicles is not covered. Why is it not covered when it is presenting the same symptoms as the cars covered by recall. Also, because of BMW neglect in including my vehicles, I already spent thousand of dollars and the lives of humans being were put in jeopardy. Unfortunately, the auxiliary fan in y 5 series is still not working and it cost between 3-5 hundred dollars to replace and that is not including labor. Why do I have to spend so much money when BMW should have built an excellent quality car for the money that this vehicle cost. The engine block material is of bad quality and its electronic system of extremely bad quality and BMW does not want to stand behind their product nd still claim to be, "the ultimate driving machine" a cheap celica or corolla is of better quality for far less money.
