Myself along with thousands of other owners are having moisture build up issues inside the headlight that eventually create puddles of water that short out the headlights which is $5000 for each headlight replacement.

December 29th 2020, my wife was turning left while pulling into a parking space in a shopping mall when the car suddenly surged forward even though she had her foot on the brake. She plowed into the car parked in the space on the right and pushed that car into the car to its right. The air bags on the steering wheel, left and right side and driver's knee bag all deployed. State farm has just declared the car a total loss.
Passenger front door actuator failure causing inability to unlock and open the door. Normally with door locked you should be able to do a double pull with door latch to open the door such as in emergency situations. This is a safety issue as you can not open the door.

Occasionally driver's door cannot be unlocked and opened from inside using regular door latch, thus trapping the driver in vehicle. Door will however unlock if the lock/unlock button on the dash is pressed. This happens about one in every eight to ten times of opening the door.

Driver side door will not unlock using the inside door handle, effectively trapping the driver inside. Intermittent problem occurs while stationary after engine is stopped and vehicle in park. Took to dealer and it happened in front of service adviser, they informed me nothing is wrong.
While driving, the car stopped accelerating and a transmission malfunction warning came up on. The fan on the engine also came on very loud and there was lots of exhausted coming out. I drove slowly to a shop. Once at the shop they stated they could not get the car to shift into gear. They did diagnostics on it and said it was a shift module that needed replaced, I had it replaced and it did not fix the problem. They then said it needed a reset that could only be done at the BMW dealership. BMW performed the reset and that did not fix the problem. BMW diagnosed that the transmission pump was out and a $9k transmission needed to be replaced. The car continues to not be drivable, not stay in gear. It has also started spitting out milky substance from the exhaust like the coolant is leaking into engine. In addition the paint on the hood and roof of the car has become dull for no apparent reason, like it has reacted to a high amount of heat from the engine. A car with only 132,000 miles on it should not need a transmission replaced and the paint should not be wearing like it is. There was coolant recall on all models except the 535i, this coolant problem could have been what caused the transmission to go out very prematurely. The car is now not drivable, will not stay in gear. I believe there is something wrong with the car that is due to a failure or malfunction of the car itself and not wear.

Drivers side door latch will not unlock from inside unless central door unlock button is pushed or keyfob unlock button is pushed. Plunger moves up and down with door handle but does not open door. Because this car disconnects the battery in an accident I am afraid that I may not be able to get out of the car in an emergency. Repair is expensive and not covered under warranty.

The driver's side door will not open with the door handle. The door lock was jammed into the locked position and would not unlock without actuating the electric door unlock system. The door could not be unlocked manually. This has happened several times intermittently. This was reported to the dealer and they informed me this instance has occurred several times to other BMW vehicles.
Description: the front passenger side door actuator went bad. As a result, door will not unlock when handle is double-pulled. The main problem is, the door is designed such that, it cannot be unlocked manually by pulling the lock stud up. . . The only way to unlock the door is to pull the handle twice. Therefore, when the actuator malfunctions, the only way to unlock the door and get out of the car is by pressing the unlock button which is on the main control panel. Risk: if I am in an accident with a passenger sitting in the front passenger seat, she will not be able to open the door and get out of the car. If the passenger is a child or someone who does not know how to operate the unlock button in the main control panel, it might get very serious. Frequency: about six months ago, my driver side door actuator went bad, and was replaced under my warranty (under 50k). But, I had to put up a fight to get it covered by warranty. Now the passenger side actuator is gone. And BMW refuses to fix it under the extended warranty. Browsing online, I found quite a few people having similar issues. . Read more...
