Passenger front door actuator failure causing inability to unlock and open the door. Normally with door locked you should be able to do a double pull with door latch to open the door such as in emergency situations. This is a safety issue as you can not open the door.

For over the past year, the (small) engine light has been repeatedly & constantly going on/off. I've had sensors, spark plugs, tubes & everything under the sun replaced and have taken (or towed in most cases) the car to many different auto repair shops for multiple quotes & repairs. The latest problem is the small engine light came on & the car was stuck in park and would not engage in drive or reverse. It wouldn't shift. After turning the car off and then on again, the engine light was completely gone & the car was fine to drive/reverse. After driving the car a few blocks, the engine malfunction/reduce speed light came on, the power was drastically reduced & I almost got hit by a dump truck. In 2008, I bought my BMW brand new because I wanted no car issues because I am not a mechanic. Every since I bought this car I have had nothing but repeated & different issues that no mechanic can identify. And it all started with the high-pressure fuel pump which was replaced three times (hpfp). After the third hpfp was replaced, and the car was in the shop literally for three months straight, I got a lawyer involved and BMW corp apologized & said I could have a choice 1/ getting a different car that they picked out (a 535i not the xi I bought because of snow and ice conditions) 2/ they cut me a check for a few thousand and told me to shut up and I could never speak of what happened or be part of future lawsuits or class actions. I've never felt safe driving my 2008 BMW (116k miles on it over 12. 5 years) every BMW owner that bought a BMW between the range of years knows exactly what I am talking about the constant and never-ending issues that all start with the hpfp & escalate from there. Repair shops can't fix the issues & BMW covers up. Nhtsa hasn't done anything about this massive BMW issue affecting the vast majority of owners. Just google it!.

The passenger side door will not unlock with the vehicle in park, all other doors do. Even with a double pull it will not open. The only way to open it is using the center dash mounted unlock button. A definite safety hazard if you need to exit the vehicle in an emergency.
My 2015 BMW 535i xdrive with less than 50k miles had the door lock actuator stop working. If you tried to open the door (once the car was in park, or turned off) and the lock button would come up and go back down but would not unlock. The only way to get the door to unlock was to push the unlock button on the center console. I have read online that this has been an issue on multiple versions of BMW's and over quite a few years and has never been corrected. This could be a deadly issue. If someone was in the passenger seat and the driver was incapacitated and the passenger did know where the door lock button was on that car. They would be stuck. I am now at a little over 55k miles and not the actuator on the drivers side is now going out. I have seen on multiple BMW forums people continuously talking about this issue. Something needs to be done about this.

Within 15 min of arriving home in said vehicle, wife started car in driveway to go shopping. Immediately, dense black smoke began pouring from under the dash. She turned the car off, but left key fob in column. She summoned me from inside our house and when I arrived the smoke was still pouring out from under center to driver side of dash. I removed the key fob from column and approx. 1 to 2 min later the smoke stopped - was going to disconnect the battery, but smoke stopped before I was able to open garage and gather tools. No flames were ever seen and absolutely no smoke from under hood area - all inside car. Many warning lights are now illuminated - awd sys, dsc, abs, 4x4, lighting sys (check displays, turn signals, high beams, headlamp flasher and fog lamps). None of the exterior lights seem to function. This all occurred without warning and fortunately happened while stopped in the driveway. Checked recall log on NHTSA for VIN and found "0" recalls. The vehicle also includes "x-drive" (all wheel drive system).

When turning on the max/ac blower fan the fan becomes intermittent/sporadic. The fan runs on high and then shuts down then runs on high and shuts down. Etc. The vehicle was in motion and on city streets with normal strait away driving. It has happened more than once and appears to happen each time that I try the max/ac fan.
Driving family down the highway around 65 mph. I loose all power in the cabin. The car starts throwing all warning lights, abs, steering, sway control, transmition, etc. Engine still running would not shift into neutral had to use e brake to pull over then it wanted to keep going had to turn car off to stop it. Called tow truck sent family home.
Wednesday July 25th, 2018, as I was getting ready to leave work, I started my car which was parked in my company's underground garage and the interior became engulfed with smoke. I turned the car off and got out to check the engine. There was no smoke coming from the under the hood of the car. I got back into the car and started it again and more smoke entered into the car. I turned the car off and went back to my office to call aaa. Approximately 20-30 minutes later I went back to the car and immediately smelled smoke in the garage. As I approached the car it was completely filled with smoke but I could tell that the both the back and front window shields and the sunroof were scorched. My key fob did not work so I had to open the car with the key. With the door open the thick smoke escaped and then I was able to see the damage to the car as a result of a fire. I have attached some pictures so you can see. I did some research and found that there have been some instances where this has happened to other BMW owners in the past and that this was a course of action to take in letting you know.
Why the vehicles in off position the driver's side door will not open once you complete the double pull on the door handle trapping you in the vehicle the only way to get out of the vehicle is to actually hit the door unlock button in the center rash. I find this to be a safety issue because if I need to get out of the vehicle quickly I will be trapped unless I can actually reach the door button to unlock all the doors there is a video that I am forwarding as well on youtube showing this actual problem many other consumers who have purchased if your vehicle is having the same issues.
Blower motor shorted and caused widespread electrical problems affecting headlights and their control. A large amount of smoke blew out of the vents as well. The vehicle was being moved from the garage to the parking lot at a 3rd party service provider.

Driver's door lock actuator failure at 33000 miles. Unable to unlock and open door by inside handle. Therefore, may not be able to get out of vehicle in an emergency if door will not unlock. This is a known problem with BMW but has not been a recall, which I highly recommend as a safety problem.
The srs passenger malfunction light is turning on. I've notified BMW and have shown them that there is an open recall on my car but they have refused to acknowledge my car has been affected.
Many times driver's side door does not unlock when the lever was pulled twice. It only unlocks when the electric unlock button is pushed. It could be very dangerous during an accident if power is lost and I could not unlock the door. This problem has started on the passenger side door too.
When trying to exit the car and pulling on the door handle, the door does not unlock, the lock stays in a locked position even after multiple pulles. The issue has been diagnosed as the door lock actuator. This is a safety issue as you are unable to get out of the car. I was able to use the manual unlock button to open the door.
Vehicle was previously driven the day before drove perfect no problems, the day after the vehicle when you put in drive or reverse it would automatically go back to park on it's own and would not move the vehicle was parked in the drive way as normal. I had vehicle towed to BMW they diagnosed as the mechatronic sleeve needed replacing they charged me 1300 dollars my wife picked the car up and drove 50 miles and the car started doing the same previous behavior I contacted BMW they had me to tow back to their dealership a second time both tows cost me 125 dollars each the car was then diagnosed as needing a 9000 transmission and I was told the previous repair that I paid for would not be credited toward the new transmission I'm outraged. My service advisor is john ard at tom williams BMW in irondale alabama.
Several times when starting from a stopped position with the auto start/stop engaged, the car will stop and automatically go into neutral. I have had this happen several times when pulling into an intersection. It happened once while making a left turn with oncoming traffic and the car stalled after I started the turn. I had to get the car back into drive quickly to complete the turn and avoid being hit by the oncoming traffic. This does not happen frequently, has occurred a total of 5 or 6 times in the 4 years I have owned the car.
My car smells like gas. I have taken my car to two BMW shops and it's the same thing every time. They can't find anything. Plus, my check engine light stays in all the time. The dealership tells me the same thing that can't fine the problem. Also, my headlights has a malfunction problem, it works when it wants to work.
My 2008 BMW 535i is suffering from the same passenger restraint system malfunction error as the earlier BMW models. Nhtsa information I've read indicates that the passenger airbag will not deploy in the event of a substantial front end collision, which poses a significant risk to passengers. BMW only recalled model years 2004 - 2006, however. This is not an isolated incident to those years. My 2008 BMW 535i throws the error every time I drive with or without a passenger. Both the passenger side seat belt light and the passenger side airbag light remain illuminated any time the key is in the ignition. What is being done about more recent BMW models?.
New battery install caused power surge damaging electrical system.
Driving a 2008 BMW 535i at highway speed, approximately 50 mph, when, with no warning, large red warning light appears, "engine overheated - turn off engine. " light came on suddenly and engine died to 5 mph and then stopped running. Barely able to get to the side of the road and in great danger from trucks bearing down on a mountainous curving California highway. Discovered the problem was an immediate failure of the electric water pump which causes sudden engine loss placing the driver in grave danger. This problem has been reported by many drivers to BMW (see online forums) and they know this is a serious problem but have not issued recall notices on the electric water pumps on their vehicles. They previously issued recalls on the high pressure fuel pumps but this also requires a recall as the car abruptly dies at highway speed.
Pressing the shift (transmission) selector into the reverse position, causes the shifters electrical ribbon cable to get pinched and the lights in the shifter and sport button fail to work anymore. Repositioning of this ribbon cable or using a different insulation method would solve this problem.
As I was leaving the stop sign and entering the busy intersection, my engine suddenly died. The second incident happened a few days later. I was driving about 15 mph, again the engine suddenly died. We took the car to BMW encinitas for its first maintainance check and we did mention these two scary incidents. They re-assured us that everything was fine. The latest incident happened two days ago, Feb 23 ,2015. My husband was driving at about 15 mph, and again the engine suddenly died and the transmission went into neutral.
While driving about 35 mph on a busy street at rush hour I prepared to make a right turn by indicating. The fast turn single flashing started and the computer system in my 2008 535i said rear turn single malfunction. I slowed to my the turn and the person behind me slammed on their brakes and swerved to avoid hitting me and almost crashed into the person next them. I didn't realize why this happened, so I pulled over to check my lighting system and realized that the right rear lights weren't functioning properly. I opened the rear brake compartment and smelled burning melted plastic. I disconnected the brake light connector and found that it was melted. I searched online and found that there is a NHTSA recall for this problem for my year car. When I went to beverly hills BMW I was turned away. They told me that there wasn't a recall that covered my car. They were very rude about the whole and basically told me that I'd have to deal with myself and cover the costs. . Read more...
The car has been in and out of the shop for various problems from the moment we bought it. The car started making whistling sounds and engine lights would come on and has been seen by BMW rts already 4 times. But most recently my husband was waiting at the light to make a left turn when his steering wheel all of a sudden locked and he could not drive it. So we took it in to get it serviced and was told to immediately contact BMW of north America . 3 weeks later I finally received my car and cause of this steering error reads: eps control unit is faulty. The replaced the eps control unit, basically the steering rack, and the eps control unit failed again! they disconnected the battery to reset the control modules reprogrammed the eps control unit, adjusted the steering angels, initialized all windows and sunroof, performed active 4 wheel alignment. Basically the cars a dud and BMW refuses a buy back.
Driving new 2013 535i (heavily equipped) about 50 mph in 55 mph zone on a clear evening w/low traffic. Suddenly and without warning BMW collided into rear-end of illegally parked vehicle lacking any warning lights or flares. BMW rammed adverse parked vehicle approx. 16' before pull apart. Air bags deployed on steering wheel and knee. Steering wheel airbag caused significant damage to left arm etc. . Both legs in similar trauma post-crash at knee to foot equally. Front windshield cracked inwards (not outward) above steering wheel. Force of impact to rt. Foot/heel to pedal/floor caused multiple fractures req. 10 screws with plate and other injuries. Temporary total disability and partial permanent disability. Out of pocket medical costs, and other specials exceed $100,000. 00 excluding value of vehicle. (damage to vehicle estimated to exceed $42,000. 00) BMW stalled and rolled to a rest in left lane. BMW assist could not speak to me, but could hear from within vehicle. BMW admitted its BMW assist system malfunctioned. Airbag deployed and may not have properly and/or timely notified 911. Personal injuries from airbag despite seat and steering wheel fully retracted. BMW promised, but failed to provide audiotape and transcript, despite repeated attempts. Moreover, BMW won't provide common courtesy of a response to said failure even though proof of service exists. Unusual particularly since no threat of litigation has been or will be made. Air bags do not show as being disconnected from crash on this site. Personal injuries e. G. Medical bills, pain and suffering etc. Into six figures. BMW has also refused to inspect vehicle to rebut any queries as to vehicles' performance at moment of impact. BMW nor selling dealer never informed assist package for about $1,300 would have prevented or significantly reduced the outcome.
As I was driving home on the highway my engine overheated very quickly. It went into serious limp mode and slowed down to under 30mph in the middle lane of a wide freeway. I let it cool for over 20 minutes, and it overheated within 1 minute of turning it back on. I had to have it towed to my mechanic and he determined the water pump had failed. I started doing some research online and it turns out to be a very common issue. I read many many complaints of people having electrical water pump failures before 75,000 miles. Without a water pump you must have the car towed and its a very expensive fix. BMW/Mini have had many cars with problematic water pumps in the past and they never do anything about it. This issue needs to result in a recall.
I just had to have my water pump and thermostat replaced on my 2008 535i. I was told that it happens so often, they keep the part on the shelf! are there really no recalls on this problem?? also, my right tail light shorted out. I asked the shop why. . . He said this also happens all the time. The wires fry! not cool. I really think someone needs to investigate this. When I was told they replace them all of the time, I was shocked. That cost me $1102. 62 to fix. The guy who towed me said he makes several trips a week for people with the same problem.
At the time of purchase I was told that the first tune up would be due at 10,000 miles. Therefore I schedule an appointment for service, hover when I brought it in the first time at 10,000 miles I was told there was no need for tune up that the computer would display a message telling me when to service it. One week later it was displaying that it needed oil, so I brought it in. One quart of oil was added on the spot. After 11,000 it was telling me to service the car in 1200 miles so at 12200 I brought it in. Once aging I was told it was not time. Now it is once again displaying a message that oil level is low but I still don't have the message for service needed. The car now has 14000 miles. I just do not want the engine to blow out and the dealer blame it on me for not bringing in on time.
Right rear brake light failure indicator on dash board turned on. Inspecting the light bulbs, all seemed to be in working condition. Fuses were also good. Found the ground wire pin and socket on the bulb holder burned out pretty severely. Problem appears to be intermittent as the indicator would turn on and off before eventually staying on permanently. Also, indicator would show turn signal failure at first, then brake light, then right back up light, then all three. Eventually it settled in on brake light only. Potential for accidents related to turn signals not working and warning other drivers of braking and/or turning. Also potential for an electrical fire beginning in the rear of the vehicle close to where the fuel filler cap is located. Checking online forums for a repair, it appears to be a common problem, and the subject of an earlier recall on other BMW models.
I have a 2012 535i and have been experiencing stalls when auto start/stop engages, when the vehicle tries to restart the engine it switches to n while at a traffic light or a stop sign. This is a safety issue and is very dangerous and could lead to an accident in certain driving situations.
Flame erupted out the top of passenger seat, sitting cushion. Moms butted blistered, used personal health insurance for medical care. I do have pics in other phone. I will resubmit claim.
